Before continuing I should mention two things.

1) I haven't used that many different LBs (only ones I remember ever using are base Riise, base Lizarazu, gold Bacha and TB Robertson)

2) that I didn't actually buy the card but when I mention value, I am referring to the lowest BIN at present (138,000 coins).

I first put him into my squad in December to determine whether to submit him into the Eusebio SBC or not (the reason I probably didn't use him earlier was because gold Bacha was holding it down pretty well for me). As you can guess from the formation I use, I like to build up with my fullbacks a lot - I usually pass out wide to them and drive forward past the opponents frontline and then send a pinged pass into the holding midfielder whilst also triggering runs with both fullbacks and only occasionally passing back to them for the one-two, their main role is the provide emergency width if the ball is lost higher up in the pitch if the opponent has wingers (because people are accustomed to going out wide against the 41212(2)'s lack of width and like to run out wide and cutback), or I used them for the overpowered one-two in fc 24. With Bacha this worked pretty well with her insane pace and decent ability to pass quickly and make quick touches to receive it back and before I tried Robertson, I was doubtful if it would be the same, but it was in fact better.

Firstly, his pace stat is an absolute understatement. Even before I applied the shadow on him, his playstyle was ridiculous for running with the ball and his high acceleration was appreciated too to be able to use the most effective skill with a fullback (simply changing pace) and get past players to cut inside or bring the ball past the defence to play everybody in the box onside. I kept him in the squad for a while before I realised what the 'it factor' about him really was though - his intelligence in game is probably one of the best of any player I've ever used in this iteration.

He has an above average defensive awareness with shadow but what sets him apart is his intelligence on top of it, with Bacha (I know, not the best defensive comparison but probably the most similar stat wise player I've used at LB) whenever I triggered r1 press she would either be on the wrong side of the player she was marking which was frustrating because it allowed for the easiest passes out wide which ultimately led to a cutback or would react too late to the trigger and have to catch up by which point passes out wide were made. Robertson however has consistently been on the correct side cutting off the passing option out wide. Consistently. His intelligence isn't just there for defence, his availability as an option in critical positions when I'm in that weird passing around phase in front of the oppositions backline in the box looking for an opening is always noticeable. This isn't always positive though because despite his crosses taking very clutch paths to attackers, it often doesn't clear the first man if they're even in a 2-metre radius of him because the curve takes a while to kick in. Another thing to note here is that he can switch play but it's a roulette whether a teammate or the opposition collect the ball, I'm sure if this is something you do often though a chem style should fix this.

But for now, 3 months more or less in playing casually with him in rivals and wl he has been a consistent player which I think is the biggest accolade a player in FC 24 can really receive and is also why I felt inclined to even write this review. Also, because I wish more people wrote reviews on players and discussed how the play in depth so if you see this, it's your reminder to write that review on the player you appreciate please :).

-He's been really consistent for me

-He has clean defensive animations

-He does the little things right in game that make him seem smarter than the other players

-He never gets tired. Ever.

-Running with him on the ball feels fast because of the ps+ but it isn't very nice turning with him, it is easy to make space with him in other ways though like changing pace because of his great acceleration

-He might leave you too exposed on defence if he isn't positioned cautiously because for pacey opponent wingers, if you don't have a tactic for that, they can easily turn him and lay him out on the floor (not kidding this happens early on in many games before I switch tactics)

-I personally have never managed to make him work against Adama Traore, he has neutralised the likes of potm Salah, toty Best etc but that one Adama Traore card is just a different breed of superhuman with strength and speed, anyway that seems to be his kryptonite for me
