After having surprise success with FOF Claudio Bravo, I decided to try Tim Howard...why not? As an American with fond memories of 2014 USA vs. Belgium, where Tim Howard made like 20 saves, I had to give him a try, especially for less than $50k. He also has 93 rating, which I thought was very high (dare I say highest rating ever to an American?).
Wow was wrong. First I subbed him in as a GK for my secondary EPL squad without any chem with the CBs and he was awful. Couldn't stop anything in World Class and Legendary SB. Missed low shots, missed finesse shots, missed long shots...everything seemed to go in after 20+ matches. He also seemed a step slower than his 95 reflexes rating would suggest. I was shocked how bad he was. Maybe if he had his old Everton club chemistry, it would be different.
Then I tried putting him into my junior MLS squad (yes I am American so I must have an MLS squad to be a true fan). He did better, (certainly than my previous GK Blake), but again, there were some shots I thought would certainly be saved, and they just found the back of the net. So surprising.
Also, in game, he seems much smaller than 6'3" compared to other similar keepers such as Ter Stegen and Ederson. His 60 speed was also apparent, as he appeared very slow on pull outs and was not successful at least for me in saving any of those.
Overall very disappointed with Timmy and I cannot recommend him to anyone unless you are a nostalgic American fan.
