90 - Icon
5.0
Boateng on steroids
By Corty, 06-12-2017

Back at the start of Fifa 18 i packed an untradeable Boateng and Varane and i was using them 'till now so i'm going to compare Rio to these two.

After doing the Schmeichel SBC -i did it the 2nd day it came out, no reviews yet- i realized i traded my Neuer to a bronze keeper in disguise as a prime Icon... But he had it's worth as i traded him in without a flinch to Rio's sbc. Best decision. Ever.

Let's get the cons out the way first then, shall we?

Balance(57) and vision(57). Not major cons, to be honest, nothing serious at all, it's just some times if Rio collides with someone when running back or forward, he may fall over with his low balance (not when lets say, he fights for the ball, but when he is off the ball, running to his position). The second "con" is his vision. Yes he has good shortpassing(83) but his vision is poor so i advice you to pass back to your keeper or other defenders near him or just kick it up the field.

Okay, so let's see the pros.

Defending(91). All of his def. stats are above 90. I can't say anything bad about it, it's perfect. Can't be better! Standing tackle, sliding tackle, interceptions, heading, he wins everything! I did not use any better CBs in this game yet.

Physicality(86). Nothing to fault here either, especially as i use anchor chem style on him and all of his stats are above 90. He is aggressive, strong and can jump. He is already a steel tower in the middle, and when he jumps he pushes the earth down not himself up...

Third pro is his speed. For a defender (with anchor chem) to have 94 acceleration and 87 sprint speed is like giving wings to a tiger. Damn he's fast! He catches up to Ronaldos (both), Jesus', Sons, Hazards, Aubameyangs, etc. With med-med workrates, he never goes out of position so he easily catches anyone and when running back from lets say a failed corner attempt, he will get back and possibly stop a dangerous counter attack!

The last pro is his composure(93). He does not panic in hot situations, you could hear him shout "Mans not hot". With the complete defender, tackler and tactician traits this makes him a perfect defender to have, and these traits what makes him better then is lower rated icon cards imo! Oh and yeah, 83 stamina. He can go trough 120 minutes without a problem.

All in All

If you have untradable prime Schmeichel or other icons you don't really like, then do him. I was hesitating between him or Roberto Carlos, but a defender role is more important then a wingback so i did Rio even if i am Real Madrid fan and loved Roberto Carlos back in the day.

I do not regret my decision. I traded my Varane in while doing the SBC and placed Rio next to Boateng. Since then i do not fear any opposition through the year anymore, be it TOTY, TOTS or prime Icons. Let them come and let them be smashed to the brick wall like eggs, that is the Rio and Boateng pair in the backline.

huge fast car, but missing the highest gear

Well guys, there are some things that everyone wants to know about. One of them is "how is Rio 90 in game?", so here is an answer.

PACE

Not much to write here, 83 honestly feels like 83, anyway- that is good for a CB, isn't it?

SHOOTING

His longshots are(not sure why) really good for his shooting stat, when he have some space in 20-25m outside of the goal there is a chance for him to score a beauty. He scored 5 goals for me like that.

PASSING

He can easily deliver a long through ball to wingers, short passes are great, especially when you use driven pass (R1 or RB on xbox).

DRIBBLING

Pretty agile, he is decent on the ball when it comes to control, and his balance is acceptable aswell.

DEFENDING

He is an absolute tank when it comes to tackle the ball. Well, he wasn't when I was playing him with shadow, everything changed after i gave him anchor, now he is a complete defender.

PHYSICALITY

And now is my biggest dissapointment. His jumping isn't that good as it should be, his heading doesn't even exist- after 400 games played he scored just one goal from header, but I conceded a lot more with headers when he was marking the guy heading, his strength is good, but nothing more. Rio is agressive and that is only thing I am sure that you will like about his physicality.

Get Rio'd

Splash the cash on the big man Ferdy. He's so good. Your defence needs this upgrade. He will make the difference in your backline. He'll win you games with his agressive playstyle and amazing interceptions. It feels like your opponents have to pass him twice. The human wall. Have used prime Desailly as well, but he is a class below Rio. This guy can carry your ass all the way to Elite WL.

1.2M is bargain for him!
By rouniiz, 03-02-2018

So i was lucky enough to complete Ferdinand's sbc and after 187 games i can say he is AMAZING! It's totally worth the coins, hell it should even cost more than just 1.2M and if you have some shitty prime icon you have completed and wanna get rid of him, this is the right place to put him to. I did put Schmeicel prime to this sbc and saved me 400-500k.

But lets go to the point, why he is so good.

PACE: His pace is of course outstanding, he can even catch player like Aubameyang even if he is 3-5m away from him + put over 90 defending to him so he gets the ball back like candy from 3 year old! I give 10/10 for his pace.

SHOOTING (Heading mostly): As he never really did shot with his feed i'm gonna just judge his heading and his ability to win headers. In 187 games he had scored 6 times (5 times with his head from corners, 1 time with foot to open net). He usually goes to penalty box area in corners (can depend on formation) and i usually just put crosses to far post to player like Bale or Pogba, so he didn't mostly get even chances to win headers, but i can say when the cross did come to him and when he was at right place he did won the header most of the times and when he did he always did head the ball at target, even at difficult position. So i'm gonna give 8/10 for his shooting.

PASSING: To be fair i was really surprised how good his passing were even with 67 passing. But he had 83 short passing and 77 long passing which were really good, only little minus was his 57 vision but as that mostly affects to long balls that really didn't matter much, and not many defenders have good vision either so that's no surprise. But he is totally good enough to pass for defender. So i'm gonna give 7/10 for his passing.

DRIBBLING: Really good composure and reactions, which is really important for defender, and 76 ball control which is really good for defender too. But not many people seems to be 100% sure what composure really stands for, specially for defender and i'm one of them. But one thing i'm 100% certain is that it affects to your touch's. You probably notice this mostly in your attacking players, but when player who has the ball is under pressured he usually takes that stupid 5m touch right before you have chance to take a shot. That's because the composure. And it goes same way for defender. How many times your Bailly or someone else with low composure (less than 80) have taken that 5m touch as being lowest man and under pressured and because that your opponent got the ball and scores? Well with Ferdinand's 93 composure that never happens because he is so calm with the ball.

And 86 reactions helps him a lot to clear the ball fast as possible out of danger zone which really helps a lot too. Those are without doubt 2 most important stats for a defender and that's why

i give 8/10 for his Dribbling.

DEFENDING: Absolute monster at defending (like really as expected). His interceptions, marking, standing and sliding tackle's are all 10/10. And as he is really quick and strong at the same time its seriously super easy to get ball from opponent. So pure 10/10 for his defending, hell i would even give more if possible.

PHYSICAL: Really good physical too. Only maybe little minus was his 82 Jumping which is generally good, but when there was players who were taller than Ferdinand against him in headers, he mostly lost the header so little better jumping would help that. Stamina 83 totally good enough to play full 90 minutes, even 120 minutes if have to. 88 strength really feels like a lot more. He can push down easily even the strongest strikers so his strength really feels like over 90. 86 aggression really good too and helps massively when you are behind someone and try to catch him. So i give 9/10 for his physical.

Rio The Menace
By Josephjj96, 22-01-2018

Rio Ferdinand..where do I begin? Lets see..tackling 10 out of 10, simply outstanding. Strength and aggression 10 out of 10. Aerial battles 10 out of 10. There really isn't much to say about him. Prime Ferdinand is a rock in the defensive line. I sold Gullit to be able to get him, because my defense was a little rocky, and holy moly he delivered. He is just a tad better than most of the Cb's in the game. You can even play him at CDM with no problem, OR Left or Right back too. He has mastered the art of tackling, sliding, standing, blocking, you name it. He is expensive but if you really wanna get that extra layer to your defense then dont hesitate. Get him. I played him with the sentinel chemistry style, because shadow or anchor make him perform a bit poorly. But with sentinel he is simply the best Cb in the game. (You have to realise that chemistry styles can affect player negatively, even if it's a good chemistry style like Hunter, Shadow etc. You have to find the right one.)
