The biggest pulls i had at the start of the game setting me on the road to build up a Bundesliga team for starter... and damn. Does it show he is 88 rated! Well... 93 with anchor chem which i immediately applied.

You all know by now, defending in Fifa 18 is something you need to learn again. They made it you no longer can let the AI do the defending for you (thank god!) so you need to learn it anew. You can feel his rating and his high stats in defending as he usually at the right place at the right time when you switch onto him and make a crucial tackle before the opponent can shoot/pass. As i used lower rated CB partner with him, like Bender(80), i could tell the difference. While Bender did foul a few times, was caught off position and such, Boateng was always there to clean up the mess and save my skin from a goal.

Let's see the positives first then, shall we?

Defending. Yeah, its an obvious one. The default stats are already in the 90s with an anchor chem... Jeez! 99! Freakin' 99! With 92 aggression and 83 pace?! Whaaat... man. When i was controlling Bender and letting the AI take over Boateng whit his 82 reaction he got in some automatic tackle! I never gave out any penalties or free kicks because he got in a wrong tackle, only when i slid in to break down a counter attack and that was intentional fault. So yeah i can't find any fault with his defending... if i got a goal it was my fault not the cards.. .because i am shit at defending tbh!:)

The other pro is his strength and aggression. With anchor 99 strength and 92 aggression. Let Ronaldo (both), Lewa, or Ibra come, he will be able to stand his ground and battle out it with them. Oh and yeah, 95 heading and 85 jumping with anchor? Also 192cm tall (6'3)? Good luck scoring a header! I could score some goals from corners it's just i am still not figured out what corner tactics work this year so no goals with him (yet).

Lastly his pace. Quick. Even with basic chem or with anchor. He rarely needs to catch up with an attacker but even if he needs to he can, so this stat completes the holy triangle. Defending, Strength and Speed for a CB. What else can you ask for?

Okay, let's see now the negatives.

Stamina? Maybe. Its 74. Its OK. As I searched trough most of the defenders few have great stamina which is odd. A lot of them has below 70! Why EA? So with 74 he is one of the better ones out there. And you do not run out with your CBs so it should last the whole 90 minute.

Work rates? Medium-medium imo is good. So.... yeah. There is not really any negatives. I just put these here as a passing thought i wont mention them at the end as real negatives.

Last thoughts:

Worth it. I got him from a 2 player pack so i can't sell him, but as i checked his price he was going for around 100k (on xbox) as i write this review. Which for an 88 rated card... pretty good! I did not mentioned the passing as its not good not bad. Its OK.

Boateng is an absolute machine this fifa. I use him with the chemistry style Anchor, because it gives him a little bit of the extra pace he needs to stop the fast strikers, and it gives him the strength and jumping to play against the big, strong strikers. I also scored one of my most beautiful goals with him, form a corner with a volley.

I still can't believe that if i press the tackle button on my controller, Boatang wins the ball, something that many other centrebacks couldn't like Van Dijk, or Bailly. For me he is the best defender in fifa 'cause he has all he needs. I also think in this fifa it is really important to have a great defense, and with Boateng you have all you need. I even used him with Jeremiah St.Juste next to him and he did his job as well. So if you can afford him, you really need to try him!

As the new patch released and the first throwback Thursday came closer I decided to invest in high rated cards and build a team around them. Bought Boateng as an investment but he would play in my team, while I waited for TT. When Thursday came I decided not to sell him since he was playing magically alongside Sokratis, Leno, Schmelzer and Kimmich. He is one of the best defenders I used this year. HIs defending and Physical presence helps allot with defending in the new patch. His passing is just perfect from a CB with the options of making a decent through ball or opening up the field.

Got him for my Bundesliga-Team, paid 181k for him and haven't regret that since! He is the best CB I've used in that game - and I used to experiment quite often, really. I had Varane, Ramos, Chiellini and Ferdinand, for example. Got rid of all of them and built a Bundesliga-Squad. So much to the storytelling. Now for Boateng:

Even though he got downgraded he STILL is one of the top-notch-CB's in that game. He does Boateng-things. Things he's the only one capable of doing, really. His style of interceptions is one of a kind and he is literally EVERYWHERE on the pitch (in a defensive way of course). Complete defender.

He is no Sergio Ramos, means his style of play is not that risky; Med/Med workrates work really well for him. He has a great understanding of the game and whenever it's necessary, he will be up front trying to create chances. His passing is really good for a CB, which is helpful a lot of times.

He is an absolute beast defensive-wise.
