Need a wall for your team? This is your guy. When I first saw this card I wasn't sure if he would be a good choice right before TOTS but honestly, him next to my 93 cannavaro and I feel so comfortable in defense. honestly, he is 100% worth the price and will make your team so much better. Just like in real life, he will completely revitalize your defense.
Confidence on the ball - you can feel the 99 composure so easily. Every time he has the ball he feels comfortable on it. Having used players like 85 campbell, some CBs feel really awkward on the ball. not this guy. he feels great
Steps to block passes - you dont have to control him. If he can get to a loose ball he will win it every time.
Pace - not too fast to make defending hard but will catch any attacker
Defending - obviously he is good on paper but in game he is a game changing defender. Wins most tackles and his size makes him solid
Passing - he is so good at passing that he could be a seriously good CDM
Looks - theres nothing like a 96 rated purple van dijk to scare your opponents. If only he had a dynamic picture (maybe he will get one but RN doesnt have one)
Cost - at this point in the game right before TOTS he is fairly expensive for an untradeable but pack value can negate some of that. However, he is worth the cost but isnt very accessible
Thats honestly the only problem. He is such a game changer
I will start by saying I'm a Division 2 player usually somewhere between Gold 1 Elite 2 in WL and the squad link attached is how I line up in game after switching tactics. I line up in a 4-2-2-2 to start for 100 chemistry.
This card is insane! If you have the money for him by all means send it! I've only used him for about 10-15 games now, but he is far and above the best CB I've used this year. This guy seems to have the pace of Usain Bolt when tracking back, the strength of the incredible Hulk going into tackles, the interception ability of Prime Darrelle Revis (For those of you who follow American football), and on top of this he has superb passing and dribbling ability which makes building from the back a breeze. I slapped an Engine chem on him to boost his pacing, pace, and dribbling since his defensive and physical stats are already ridiculous and he can even bang in free kicks like Pirlo or Messi for me! (Engine chem gives him 99FKA) Set pieces? Forget about it! It seems as if he's bouncing off a trampoline when going up for headers and is usually head and shoulders above opposing players. If he didn't have 2 star skills and a 3 star WF he would be a beast at essentially any position on the pitch! If you're looking for an end game CB, VVD is your man! Your opponents will hate playing you with this man on your side!
- Pace- ridiculous, catches even the fastest players from behind
- Strength- This guy is a bully
- Passing- Very crisp passing, makes building from the back much easier
- Dribbling- Not a liability on the ball like most CBs.
- Jumping and Heading- feels like having Dikembe Mutumbo in the box, wins an absurd amount of aerial battles
- Free Kicks (with Engine chem)- Boosts him to 99 FKA and since he already has 99 shot power, he can bang in screamers with relative ease
- Defending- Intercepts everything and a phenomenal clutch tackler
- If he had better skills and WF he would be the equivalent of Thanos on the pitch
- Maybe stamina?? Works fine for me, but obviously 90+ would be sick
I have an untradeable TOTY VVD; why did I complete the SBC for a slightly better card? Because I could and because Virgil Van Dijk is the best defender in the game. Is the POTY card that much better than the TOTY card? No. Is he worth the price to upgrade your POTM or TOTY VVD? Probably not. But should you? Ab-so-lute-ly. Virgil Van Dijk does things that no other defender can do. He can blatantly murder any attacker and the ref will pretend like it never happened. He has the size and athleticism that no other defender can match. He is capable of scoring with his right leg at times and converts corners into goals at a high rate. He can dribble at a higher level than elite CDMs such as Vieira, Rijkaard, and Matthaus and is a better passer as well, all from the centre-back position. You will not find a better defender this year, but there are suitable partners for him such as FFS De Ligt, TOTY Varane, and TOTY Ramos.
My TOTY VVD had the following stats:

The POTY card is on pace to better those stats in far less games played. If you don't have a Virgil card already, what are you waiting for? Don't miss an opportunity to get the best defender in the game for only 1 million coins weeks before his TOTS is released. You can't put a price on peace of mind.

I had never used Van Djik in Fifa before but i always came up against him in WL and Div Rivals. I wondered why everyone used him but now i know because he is an absolute beast, he never losses a header and seems to tackle every one. I would tell anyone to go and get him as he is totally worth the price i paid for him, he is a game changing CB.

Cant really think off any as he is a game ending CB.
So let me begin... i have completed this guy for rufly 700k and was satisfied that i have finally a good centerbeack because this position is the one where my team biggest weakness is. I upgraded from the normal Varane and Lucas Hernandez IF to him andLaporte...and boy oh boy you can feel such a difference. This guy wins so many battles that its just unfair for my opponent. His passes are absolutly god-like and his strength-out of this world.
- PaPace with his 86 Pace he is already really fast for a centreback but with his additional shadow he is just the Flash in the defense
- shooting nothing to complain here because for a centreback he can hit really good longshots(81 Longshots)
- Passing his Passes so good damn Good its unbelieveable
- dribbling from a centreback you normally wont expect a good dribbling but despite his 2 Star skills he can dribble around your opponent s team really good
- Defense this guy feels like a cheet-code ingame because there is no way that a striker will win a battle against this Giant. The only Goals i concede are on Laportes side of the Pitch and
not on Virgils
Physicality there is a good Reason why i call him the Mountain: Nobody can withstand his Strength and jumpingpower. He is so big and immovable like a Mountain
Maybe his workrates because after a corner which didnt hit the back of the net he comes back a little bit slow sometimes
VVD 96 is and will remain the best defender of the game, he has the strength of Campbell and the class of a Maldini, this card is simply cheated. Now the question is, should you do his SBC?
Don't be fooled by people telling his TOTS card will be better and tradable. First of all, put him a shadow and look at the stats, this card can't get any better. Second, sure it's untradable, but what would you trade it for? He is the best. I made the Gullit 93 SBC because I know it's an end-game player for me as I will never be able to afford the 94 version, same for VVD 96.
Another reason you might want to do it, is if you have an untradable VVD already. Maybe it's unnecessary as you won't feel the difference if you have the birthday or TOTY card as untradable, but if you have any other card just go with it. I had the 91 card from the FUT champs rewards, I burnt it in the liverpool squad challenge and never looked back, the 96 version is just from another planet.
This SBC costed me 700k (without counting the packs which I didn't open yet), and Maldini costs 2 millions?! VVD 96 SBC is definitely a great deal.
- fast, through ball to Aubameyang? Van Dijk 96 will start a sprint from the middle of the pitch and get him off the ball as if it were a child.
- strong, I haven't played against Ibra flashback yet but from what I've seen so far I'm pretty sure of the outcome if he gets too close to VVD 96.
- passing and dribbling, when he intercepts the ball he can confidently continue his run until the middle of the pitch and make clean passes if you want a quick counter-attack, he is really comfortable with the ball. He feels like a Gerrard or Lampard.
- jumping, I haven't scored any goal with him yet, but yeah, 99 jumping. I'm not a corner kick or tornado-cross specialist but I'm happy that VVD 96 can be helpful against such people, and hopefully score me some corner kicks from time to time.
- opponents rage-quiting at 0-0 in WL, either when they see him in my team or when they realize VVD 96 isn't going to let them score today, and it doesn't count me as a win...
- the card is cheated, this card won't help you improving your defending skills, just press the jokey button and any opponent getting in a 2 meters radius will inevitably loose the ball. Used to select your defenders with the right stick to get in front of the striker and intercept the ball? Not needed anymore, VVD 96 will do all these by himself.
- stamina could have been better to make this card fantastic, but honestly I think stamina is not critical for a CB, I play him next to baby Ferdinand which only has 78 stamina and never had issue with it. My midfielders baby Ronaldinho and baby Ballack get tired much quicker than my CBs.
Being a Liverpool fan all of my life, it was only natural for me to want to complete the POTY VVD SBC. I have used his 90-rated card several times since release and he was a beast, he changed my defence even though my gameplay was pretty much the same. As we're coming to the end of the game cycle I though I may as well use most of my untradeables which I have left over to bring the price down. In total I spent 500-600,000 to complete him, which to me is a steal. A million is still a steal given how good this card is.
The guy is a tank. Put the anchor chem on him and it takes his rating to 99. Hands down the best defender in the game. If you run a PL team, its a no-brainer, do the SBC.
You won't regret completing the SBC ...... other than when you open around 200k worth of packs only to land 84 Sommer like me ;-)
Height, strength, pace but the pro of note I have found is his interceptions. Its like he knows where the ball will be and will beat anyone to it, and given his strength, there is no way he is losing the challenge. Similar to IRL, no one dribbles past him.
Nothing stand out so far other than who to partner with him, as whoever it will be, will be the weak link in the defence.
