My mind has been changed!!!!
By jordan51192, 05-11-2018

Hi guys, so I wanted to shed some light on this card as it was one of my most anticipated cards coming into FIFA 19. I am a United fan born in 92 so was just a kid when Van Nistlerooy led us to an incredible 2002-2003 premier league title and more.

You could say I am a little biased going into this review therefore, but please understand I am aware of the faults with this card and will be stating them in due course. Indeed this was one of the first cards I bought in FIFA 19 and sold almost immediately after 10 games much to my disappointment. Since then, I have gone through a long list of top quality strikers including (all prime) Eusebio, Pele, R9 Ronaldo, Cruyf, henry, Van Basten...name the icon chances are I've tried it. Used within the right team and with the right tactics however, THIS MAN IS A MACHINE and here is why I think he will be staying in my team. This is the first time I've taken the time to do a detailed review of a player simply because I felt the air of disappointment with his in game performance and I wished to give the card the credit it is due....when used correctly! (More on this coming up)

SHOOTING 9/10 (on his strong foot!!!, more on that soon) - On his right foot Van Nistlerooy is quite simply deadly. He is the archetype poacher, put it on his right foot within the penalty box and watch him bang it past the keeper. He has shot power only equaled (from my experience) by that of Van Basten. My Rivaldo and Best cards have their own goal tallies increased massively just from picking up rebounds after Van the man has smashed it at the keeper (lots of corners too!)

This is where I feel the card really represents extreme value for money, to my knowledge there are no other icons with such high shooting stats for 1.2 million coins. I believe only Messi has such high finishing at around the 900k mark but nowhere near this type of shot power. With 80 curve he is also more than capable of taking great finesse shots, for some reason he loves to hit the crossbar and have it go in.

Also related in the shooting field is that this guy IS A COMPLETE AERIAL THREAT - I have 30 goals in 16 games with Van Nistlerooy and about a 1/3 of these have come from corners alone. his high strength and almost 80 jumping mean he rarely fails to win a cross. And don't get me started on the volleys.

PACE 8/10 - I am not a pace abuser on this game, anyone that looks at my squad will see that. I have a midfield with an average pace rating of mid 80s. With a hunter chem style Van Nistlerooy reaches 95 acceleration and 96 sprint speed. For me I consider this to be great. I have used strikers with more pace but as I believe this card should primarily be used a triggerman I don't find it lacking in any way. (Bear in mind I switched him for 94 Messi and I'm not missing Messi's extra speed.)

PASSING (7.5/10) - i was pleasantly surprised with how his passing feels in game. With 81 short passing Van Nistlerooy is more than competent to receive the ball and play a nice 1-2 before smashing it into the net. Not much else to say here, he is no Scholes but he is no Van Basten or Shevchenko both of whom I found to be almost unpassable with. I'm happy with this stat.

POWER DRIBBLER 8/10 - I have called it power dribbling because he is where I think this card gets really interesting. Van Nistlerooy has often been accused of feeling clunky (I too said the same when I first got him), the truth is no he is not a Messi or Maradonna on the ball as he has 74 agility but what he does have is POWER. Think Balotelli with 90 pace, oh wait, we got that recently right? No he is not the best skiller nor the most agile on the ball but what he can do is bash through defenders due to his high pace and 85 strength stat. So many times I have pressed O when a cross has hit the ground just in time to see Van Nistlerooy bopping the likes of Naldo or Sane out of his way to smash it into the back of the net. He is hard to knock off the ball and in 50/50s this will create problems for a defence pretty much every time. His pace and strength combine to make a really great dribbler.

There is one major downside to the card however and I feel obliged to point them out:

Weak Foot - This is THE major downfall of the card and the reason I think he may not . I used to be someone who would not look at a player unless they had a 4* weak foot and would even try to buy players with 5 where possible. Playing with Van Nistlerooy then has been a steep learning curve for me. The truth is you are going to want to be shooting on his right foot. THe way I get around this point is simple if he receives the ball on the right hand side then bang it across goal. If he is on the left when the ball comes his way then finesse into the right corner, this means he is always shooting with his right foot and you'll be getting the most out of it. Another thing I've noticed is because he has amazing positioning he almost always gets himself on the end of a cross and when the ball is volleyed weak foot seems to make little difference. For me this is the only caveat on a card that has amazing shooting all around but there are ways around it.

Finally, in terms of tactics I play Van Nistlerooy in 4-3-2-1, I tell him to stay forward in order to maximise stamina and with the 'Target Man' instruction. I hope you guys enjoyed my review and if there are any questions you have about Van the Man or other players you'd like me to comment on I'd be happy to share my thoughts.

Cheers.

The Ruud Devil (Ruud Van Nistelrooy)
By FifaTekks, 29-12-2018

So,

I went out to test some Icon strikers, to see who were the best, and after reading some reviews and watching some videos I wanted now to use Ruud Van Nistelrooy comparing him to the other icons I used (Thierry Henry, Stoichkov, Van Basten, Butragueno, Raul, Lineker, and some more) (Reviews will be up when verified).

My expectations for Van Nistelrooy by reading his stats were very OK, the reason being by reading his stats they were great, 91 Shooting, 86 Pace, 85 Dribbling, 3* skill 3*weak foot, and 82 Physicality. Those stats are great for most strikers but by just stat reading they were not as near good as Thierry Henry or some other Icon Strikers. But stats and gameplay are many times different, and these times they were. I mostly played Nistelrooy in WL at a 4-2-3-1 as the Loan Striker, which worked out well, I also used the Architect Chemistry Style to increase passing and Physicality.

Out of 15 games in WL

24 Goals

8 Assists

Those are very very good and he was a game changer, he had help from my LM and RM being Rivaldo Prime and TOTGS Messi with great balls in from both of them but sometimes he scored crazy individual goals. He truly was an amazing player for me. The main way he really scored in those crazy ways were not long shots or tight angle finesse which he did but it was the strength added by Architect CS and sometimes he just pushed down players like VVD and Ramos.

For Chemistry Style Architect was the best for me because it adds to Physicality which really helps it and boosts it up. Comparing his price to the other strikers it was one of the cheapest, so that is a big factor to think about.

PACE

Since Fifa 19 does not make PACE the most important factor of all, this does not exactly matter, but 86 Pace is good enough to run along way, and if you are 4 meters away from the goal he will run the whole way and not get caught, which is good enough. If he is against VVD or Davinson Sanchez, he will get caught, but his strength is good enough most of the time to push them away, so his pace is good and it is not horrible and all players in my view can live with it.

8/10

SHOOTING

I was thinking that his shot was his only stat that was fantastic but it was even better, it felt a bit like 94 shooting and Architect does not add up to it, in or outside the box, finesse or power or chipping the goalkeeper or driven shots, from head to feet they were brilliant. It does not matter how you shoot just that you do it and it does not need to be timed shooting it just has to be a shot. The amount of goals he scored states this also. The only bad thing about his shooting is his weak foot which feels a bit like 2* not 3* but sometimes I just bring it to his right foot and he would mostly score them. But because of his weak foot I must lower some markings.

9/10

DRIBBLING

I am not going to make this a CON but it is very much an average PRO because his dribbling was, ok enough, he could not glide past people and instead he ended up pushing past people and when a defender got near him it was a strength battle which he won many times, his best thing is reactions in the dribbling category and I must agree with that.

6/10

PASSING

Now, without a chemistry style his passing is not great, it would be a con, but with architect, it was AMAZING! Man 8 assists for a striker is good. I would not depend on him making some great long balls, but sometimes he made those inch perfect through balls that staggered me. His 1-2s are great too which gave him many goals. But without a CS to help his passing it was not great, reason being that he would only be able to do some short passes which need to be very direct and noone is blocking him and the person who will receive the pass.

9/10 With Chemistry Style

6/10 Without

PHSYICALITY

HIS BY FAR BEST STAT, WITH OR WITHOUT CHEMISTRY STYLE! If you are running with Cruyff, or Pele and you get shoulder to shoulder with a defender, pass, shoot, do a 4* plus skill move, or hope for the best because YOU WILL GO TO THE GROUND, with Van The Man, you will not! You will just fight your way to win, without his Chemistry Style he wins some of the battles but I recommend Architect AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!

10/10 With Chemistry Style

9/10 Without

STAMINA

It wasn't too bad but it was not good enough, Ruud Van Nistelrooy would run for 80 minutes then just fade away, so I mostly subbed him off with a CDM to protect my lead because of the amount of goals he already scored, so it would not really matter but his stamina is not great.

6/10

DEFENDING

He is a striker so it does not matter.

Such a weird experience (van Nistelrooy)
By ingmaraz, 05-12-2018

I played van Nistelrooy alongside 91 Ronaldinho in a 4-1-2-1-2. He scored 40 times in 30 games and had 10 assists. His shooting was some of the best I've experienced in fifa. Volleys, screamers, finesse, within the box, did not matter. Everything went in. Headers were great too. So far so good huh?

His passing was not terrible, not great either. Simple short passes were fine. Also his 3* weakfoot was annoying, but yeah I mean you could dribble to his right foot and be fine.

BUT that is were the major problem is with van Nistelrooy. His dribbling is horrible. 3* skillmoves make him depends on quick turning etc. Now ofcourse I knew he wasn't going to be anywhere near my Ronaldinho but man.... This guy couldn't go past a tree. He was so clumsy. His strength also did not feel as high as his stats stated.

I enjoyed this card neverthless his right foot shooting is outstanding and I hesitated before selling him. I am not sure that was the right thing to do, but it is a weird card. Try it for yourself if you got 1 million spare coins. But if you don't, I wouldn't reccomend buying him as he could be very tricky.

Shooting: 12/10

Heading: wins a lot, played him with hawk. So jumping was boosted too

Pace: felt quick enough

Passing: short passes were okay. Longer or trough passes were horrible

Dribbling: Couldn't go past a tree

Weakfoot: Horrible
