I'm writing this because I noticed the lack of reviews of this card, which surprised me a lot due the quality of his performances at the CDM position in a 4-1-2-1-2(2) that do not correspond whatsoever to his price (in a good way, because he's very very cheap). So, like the title suggests, this little fella (literally) is a version of that old FIFA 17 Kanté that we all used to love. I must say from the beginning that I used him with the shadow chem style which was indeed overpriced but in the end was absolutely worth it.
First of all, don't make fun of his height! He will surprise you in game in that matter, his physical abilities are very good for a CDM who's only 5'9'. He won't win you all the headers or be a massive help in defensive corners but in that midfield, where he belongs, you'll be comparing him to the best rated CDM's in the game. In terms of stamina you don't need to worry as he'll perform those 90 minutes like he just entered the field from the bench (is 87 enough?). To make it simple, you get the complete defensive package: amazing tackling, good positioning, good aggression on 50/50 battles and pace more than enough to keep up with the majority of players that he will face (specially on Shadow). All of that for less than 2k, which you can consider free for the amount of stability and confidence that he'll provide to the rest your midfielders, specially in a narrow formation. Sure he won't be the best to make hybrids with but he's from the Premier League so you're not too bad there, also you can easily make a strong link with Mané (yes, he can perform in a squad with Mané's priced players).
On to his least appealing part... You won't be amazed with his offensive abilities more specifically shooting, but very few times you'll be facing the goal directly to engage those finesse long shots that are so OP in this game. Power shots do sometimes go in like a beauty though. Is passing is very good for what's showing in the card (70, but short passing is 80) so if you like to play possession style football you can for sure do it, you'll be very pleased with the way he connects both sides of the pitch or/and defenders with offensive midfielders and strikers. You don't need to take huge risks with his long passing, he's not Kroos in that aspect but if you need to, he will provide strikers or wingers with very decent passes across the field as long as you don't exaggerate. The dribbling was a surprising bit to me, as he feels very agile on the ball and as long as you don't make stupid changes of direction, he will react very precisely to your inputs.
So, if you made it to this point, congrats, you really like your Ultimate Team! Gueye is an amazing value for money and probably will be for all of FIFA 19. If you don't mind with your CDM not being so capable in terms of shooting and you can make the best of his low height, you'll have all the values that Kanté offers for a more appealing price tag, no joke, he really is amazing! Give him a try!
(from the best, to rest):
Overall defending (tackles, interceptions, aggression or marking, you got it all);
Physical ability (specially for a 5'9' player)
Short passing
Stamina
Positioning
Pace
Shooting (if you need to, power shot because finesses will disappoint you);
