Deceiving Stats, Milan Skriniar
By djentlemantv, 05-11-2018

WORTH IT!

Is Skriniar worth doing the SBC? In my opinion, absolutely! I run a Serie A squad in 4-5-1 formation with Skriniar at LCB alongside Chiellini. This version of Skriniar is amazing for a number of reasons.

WHY

First and foremost, his 89 defending stat. Boasting a 90 Stand Tackle, 94 Marking, and 87 Interceptions, his defensive capabilities are outstanding. I personally play this version of Skriniar with aggressive interceptions on because he has great interceptions and aggression.

The next major upside is his physical stat. 84 overall may not seem super impressive but look at the individual stats: 88 aggression, 85 strength, 78 stamina, and 79 jumping. With aggression and strength in the mid to upper 80s, as well as his 90 standing tackle stat, he does a great job of winning the ball in a lot of situations. I feel like I win a lot more of those "50/50" situations with him. Although his stamina is 78, that shouldn't be too much of an issue unless you are playing a high press and keeping your defensive line forward, allowing attackers the opportunity to make runs in behind. The only stat I feel could be an issue is his 79 jumping. Although he is 6'2" I occasionally get concerned when my opponent attempts early crosses as jumping on the run seems to be Skriniar's only real defensive weakness.

The rest of the stats are nothing to really write home about with a few exceptions. I think it is worth mentioning his 87 reactions, 86 composure and his 76 and 73 short and long passing (respectively). Skriniar's 87 reactions allow him to make those last ditch efforts at clearing the ball off the line and getting in a crucial touch to get the ball out of the box.He has been a lifesaver at the back for me multiple times. The 86 composure rating keeps him from feeling the pressure so much in 1 on 1 and 2 on 1 situations or 1 on 1's in the box. He doesn't give away clumsy fouls or penalties. With constant pressure being an issue for some players, it is worth noting his 76 Short pass stat. This stat, along with his strength can hold an attacker off of the ball and turn to make passes out of pressure with ease compared to other defenders. The last stat I want to mention is his 73 Long Pass stat. While it's something that a lot of players wouldn't normally utilize frequently, I like to play counter attacks and long balls as frequently as possible because I run a pacey attacking squad. His 73 Long Passing, while not always as accurate as I would like, does allow for some good releases and runs in behind and is good enough to mention.

ALTERNATIVES

Prior to using this card I would rotate through several Serie A defenders including Chiellini, Koulibaly, regular Skriniar, and Manolas. Since getting this card, I start Skriniar every game and defend more confidently.

If looking for alternatives to 87 Skriniar, any of the defenders mentioned above worked well for me.

DOWNSIDES

If you play with a really high press and an attacker like Aubameyang gets in behind, don't expect to catch him. I'm not saying this Skriniar is slow, but with a 74 Pace rating (71 Acceleration 75 Sprint Speed) he's not the fastest defender in the world. That being said, the only faster defender in Serie A is Manolas. The only other downside that comes to mind immediately is that in 50 games with the 87 version (I have used the regular version for 120), I have scored zero goals from corners with Skriniar (and only 2 with the regular version). Other defenders such as Chiellini, I score from corners with frequently.

  • DEFENSIVE POWERHOUSE!!! I really feel that his stats are misleading as he defends as if he has 95 defending.

  • 74 pace. Slap an Anchor or Shadow on him if you play a high press
  • Doesn't score headers from corners
  • Jumping stat isn't always enough when defending early crosses

SBC Skriniar
By mdlibrandi, 03-02-2019

I had previously played with Skriniar's regular card, and felt that he was solid, but was not going to spend the time/effort/coins to do all the Serie A SBCs, but I am glad I did. Even though this card is only a +2 overall upgrade, it feels like a crazy improvement.

Pace: With an anchor, the pace gets to be relatively decent, but isn't really one of his strengths. I use him in a 5 at the back, in the central role, with Manolas and Benatia on either side and have these two do more of the sprinting for him, but his pace is not a liability even in a 4 at the back formation.

Shooting: Even after playing more than 150 games with him I don't know if I've ever even taken a shot with him. He is very disciplined and stays back, so he never really has the opportunity (except for corners).

Passing: Because Manolas and Benatia aren't great passes as his CB partners, Skriniar does the bulk of the passing out the back and is superb. Good at playing quick passes into the midfield, and even better at playing long diagonals to my wingbacks. If I'm struggling and looking for a change, at times I move him to CDM where he performs admirably.

Dribbling: Similar to his passing, his CB partners aren't great on the ball so I rely on Skriniar for that, and he feels great with the ball at his feet for a big guy. Sometimes I use him to take the ball up the sideline like a fullback would, and he just bullies anyone who even tries to take the ball off of him. Ball control is also very good, often chesting down balls that he intercepts, it drops right to his feet where he can then play a quick pass.

Defending: By far the best pure defender I have used. He seemingly never misses a tackle. He tracks every single run. He intercepts balls regularly. In the middle of the 3 CBs, he often has the most defensive work to do, and shoulders most of the load. He typically has more tackles/interceptions than the other two CBs combined. He is always in the right position, and if you give him instructions for aggressive interceptions, you'll find his impact is even greater. His heading is very good, particularly when attacking corners trying to score. It's not as great as someone like Godin, but still very solid.

Physical: At first glance, his physicality looks fairly average, but it's quite decieving. The aggression is astounding, as he is always making physical challenges and making whatever plays that need to be made. With an anchor, he has 90 strength, which is more than enough I find, but I normally play a really strong guy like Koulibaly or Benatia next to him to make sure there is a total rock at the back. 89 jumping is pretty standard I think. He gets to a lot of balls attacking corners, and because he's the middle CB, most crosses are cut out by the time it gets to him anyway, but if any sneak through, he normally wins it.

As a whole, the card looks a little deceiving, as he doesn't really have elite pace or physicality, but in game it plays as a nice combination of the two. I would suggest choosing his partner(s) carefully so that they compliment Skriniar (for instance, if you find him slow put a speedster next to him, if hes weak, put a huge guy). If you were to go strictly by defending, he is easily one of the best in the game. I find him to be excellent on the ball, both dribbling and passing, providing a composed presence in the back line. Although its relatively expensive to get him, I think the investment was worth it. With his new Headliners card, I think that would be a good way to test him out, and maybe you could just stick with that card instead of doing all the SBCs. Although these two cards look similar, I would prefer this version's slightly better passing/dribbling stats over the small physical boost on the Headliners version.

Defending, Defending, Defending

Pace/Physical Combination

Very Solid on Ball

Links to Handanovic and/or Vrsaljko

Tedious/Expensive (plus now there's the option of the Headliners version)

Untradeable

Neither pace or physicality are elite like you would ideally want in a CB (but the combination of average in both is nice)

Skriniar - Absolute Monster
By FifaPlayerReviews, 11-12-2018

First of all I would like to start by saying that I got absolutely nothing back from my packs and that I spent 300,000 coins to get this card as I already had untradeable attackers and I needed a solid defender. Skriniar is the epitome of an absolutely quality Centre Back. First of all, his defending is impeccable. Going into the challenge even against the quickest, strongest, most agile players in the game, this guy just never loses out. His card stat of 85 strength isn't exactly poor but is an absolute lie. I've come up against the strongest of players ( Van Dijk, Koulibaly) and when up from corner this beast absolutely annihilates them. Pace isn't really an issue for this guy as he uses his physical presence to make sure that nobody gets anywhere near the ball In the first place. on the ball this guy does seem to be a little bit inferior to the likes of Ramos and Varane for some reason but as long as you play the simple pass or just simply clear it you're not going to have any qualms with this guy. Fully worth the 300k investment even if you don't get anything from the packs.

Possibly passing in risky situations but still better than the majority of defenders on the game.

The Great Wall Of Slovakia (Milan Skriniar)
By sweatygoalssince2003, 25-11-2018

Completed his SBC for around 225k after packs. I expected a lot as his 85 was decent, and he was expensive for an untradeable CB. Luckily, he was just as good as you would expect. In a 352 with Manolas and Koulibaly, he's the best defender there and one of the best on the game by far. Definitely worth every penny

  • Relatively fast
  • Decent distribution/dribbling
  • 6'2
  • Adds the most goals of my defenders, a threat from corners
  • Decent stamina
  • Positioning can be off at times
  • Occasionally gets shredded on counter attacks
