89 - Flashback SBC
5.0
I sold everthing for him
By gouasmi, 17-02-2019

I saw the flashback and said yeah, like the other Flashbacks, i have plenty of time, i'll do it by thursday when i get my rewards, but again, it's EA, 3 days left -_-

Like the usual, i was short on coins, had like 60k... i saw the flashback, i told myself "Don't be stupid and do another Ibra-like mistake", but the reality is, i have no coin left, only 10-15 players to spare, only 2 ifs... i said, screw it, im gonna do it no matter what.

I made sacrifices, all my supersubs were exchanged (otw promes from Fut exchange, 89 Thiago silva, my 800+ games Naingolan, my first ever best striker and the 900+ games Gabriel jesus... and my 2 other untradable ifs 86 Benzema and 85 Kagawa... i even sold my trusted Alex sandro and exchanged my 86 Donnarumma :(

BEST DECISION I EVER MADE

The guy is a beast, he has icon level stats, you can litteraly play him everywhere, but with his stamina, you better stick with CB, the only defender i tested that can actually controll the ball, pass decently.

He made Ibra his play thing, he made Messi retire, he made CR7 cry, he even made Gabriel jesus... nah that little shit always find the way to score.

He has 99 on nearly everything with anchor, no one beats him on the air, no one gets past him with his strenght/size/speed/agility AND YOU CAN ACTUALLY DEFEND MANUALLY WITH HIM WITHOUT WORRYING TOO MUCH.

  • Perfect defensive/physical stats
  • Has really good shots and freekicks
  • 189cm, 99 jump, 99 header accuracy
  • pretty fast, and good agility for a player that tall
  • a defender that can actually hold the ball.
  • Not that costy if you already have some players
  • Low Stamina if you want to play him as CDM
  • Not that cheap if you don't have players to spare, and with the market right now

Superb CB/CDM Hybrid
By hisashirockz, 18-02-2019

Rivals: DIV 4

Weekend League: Gold 2 mostly

So my team is a complicated hybrid between Ligue 1, La liga, and Liga NOS and a week ago I had a situation where I had to find a CB with a good all-round stats because I want to switch them to CDM in game. And he has to specifically be Brazilian, because I need him to connect with Eder Militao, Thiago Silva and Alisson. At the time SIF Fabinho was the only best option after 88 Matthaus and I did not have the money for an icon so I gave Fabinho a shot. He was decent, but I feel he was somewhat lacking in a few departments and a weak link in my squad. So I was elated when I saw this flashback and did not think twice to complete it. I spent almost nothing on this card because I had few untradeables ready.

Although stats don't tell everything in FIFA, I love stats and always present them on my review. So let me start by telling you that out of all the Centre Backs in FUT, when you omit all the TOTY and icons, David Luiz ranks 2nd in total base stats (499) and 1st in total in-game stats (2381). Even if you take into account all FUT players including TOTY and Icon, he still ranks 5th on both categories. So stats wise, he is the best all-rounder CB out there just below the likes of TOTY Ramos, TOTY Varane, TOTY Van dijk and Icon Matthaus. Now, I know what you all are thinking, CBs do not need an all-round good stats, if they have a 99 DEF and 99 PHY, they would serve the purpose. Well sort of true, but I was looking for a CDM/CB sort of player so it really depends on what you are looking for.

Grading policy:

I grade each respective categories based on the base/game stats, and how well they perform relative to that expectation. So, if a person has a 70 pace stats, and his run feels like 70, I would give him the same grade to that category, which is 7. And I would scale the grade up and down based on how they out-perform / under-perform their own stats.

Chem used: Backbone.

Used Position: CDM and CB

PACE: 9/10

85 acceleration and 81 sprint speed is more than enough for a CDM. I don't generally require my CDM to run and dribble but with his pace, you can start a quick counter attack from the back, or even use that 85 acceleration to momentarily burst out of a tight situation and make a space for yourself to pass. The pace feels very nice in game, hence the 9 rating.

ATTACKING PROWESS: N/A

I generally instruct my CDM to stay back while attacking, so this part is not really applicable. And having a med/med WR, he won't get too high on the pitch. But I used him for 20 games and he scored 3 goals so far. 2 from corners and 1 from a long shot.

PASSING & DRIBBLING 8/10

I don't ask a lot from my CDM in this department. As long as the ball gets across to his teammate, I'm happy. But David Luiz has a great passing ability that goes up to 88 with backbone chem. He does not do direct assist, but he makes a superb forward pass from a tight space, which you can build up your attack from. What's pulling the grade down is his dribbling. It is not bad due to his agility and most of the time, it is more than enough to get off from your marker. But try dribbling with him more than 3 seconds, and his 63 balance and 75 dribbling really comes into effect and he will start to feel sluggish.

DEFENDING & PHYSICALITY 9.5/10

Now comes the main part. The most important job of a CDM for me is, to prevent the ball and the opponent to get close into your back line and David Luiz gets the job done. With backbone, all of his DEF and PHY stats is is almost close to 99 and boy, he intercepts EVERYTHING and he shrugs/hold off EVERYONE. The only drawback preventing a solid 10 comes from his 75 stamina. As a rule of thumb, If you play him as a CB, you would have no problem with this, as a CDM with stay back instruction, you will last one game just fine but will have trouble if the game gets into extra time. That's why I have two tactics in game which would let me swap the him from CDM to CB role midway.

OVR:9.5/10

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this card even if you don't need one. By the time this review is out, there should be only a day remains to do the SBC. It might look expensive if you do the SBC from scratch since he costs around 300K but in my opinion, he has a very good value/stats for the money and you get three packs back. Unless you are those players with unlimited resources and hands on Icons and TOTY players, David Luiz will improve, as well as offer you many possibilities and depth in your team. He can play both CB and CDM (or even wing backs and CM), and offer you many links because of the abundant options of Brazilian and Premier League players. And for a plus, the card design is just awesome.

+ Brilliant Defending Intelligence

+ Beast Physicality

+ Above average pace

+ Versatile

+ Awesome card design

+ Great bang for your bucks

+ 1st rank in total in-game stats for a CB (other than TOTY and Icon, as of Feb 18 2019)

- Low stamina for a CDM

- Slightly clunky dribbling

Simply Put...a Beast
By mish009, 18-02-2019

I have been waiting for a better Premier League CB to be released and Flashback David Luiz is everything I needed. I play the 4-3-2-1 with Luiz at left CB partnered next to my newly upgraded POTM Van Dijk. Surrounding Luiz is my player pick 86 Fabino and UCL Live Telles at LB. This card is easily a top 3 Premier League CB. I usually win 20-25 games during the Weekend League and I float in and out of D1/D2 Rivals mainly due to being out teamed. This card slots right in though and allows me to play my newly acquired End of an Era 91 Petr Cech on full chem. Flashback Luiz can easily be put into the "Elite" CB conversation comparing to the likes of Prime Icons. His Pace, Defending, and Physical truly make him one of the best CBs in the game. I have tried out many CBs this year next to my POTM Van Dijk such as 87 Eder Militao, Sol Campbell, Ferdinand, Blanc, Varane, Ramos, you name it and Luiz will be holding down that left CB spot until I believe there is a more affordable option that plays and feels so amazing in game. I was able to complete this SBC for about 75k with what I had in my club, and even at his 300-350K price tag, I think he is great value for money. There really isn't another amazing CB from the Prem who can compete with him and if you are on the fence about completing David, I say go right ahead and get him done while you can. Not only have I always been a fan of David Luiz, but he has the capability of playing CDM/CM right next to my Screamer Fellaini forming an Afro duo like no other. He's quick, strong, and doesn't feel like a garbage truck while making cuts, getting back on D, and dribbling the ball. I would recommend using an Anchor (what I use) chem style over a Shadow just to boost that jumping and strength up. Although I have only played about 20-25 games with his card so far, I look forward to stopping counter attacks, sweatbands, and OP crossing with the tag team duo of Flashback David Luiz and POTM Van Dijk!

Height - 6'2 is more than acceptable

Jumping/Heading - Does a good job of heading crosses out of the box and scoring off corners

Speed - 84 Pace without a chem style is what puts him into the elite CB tier

Dribbling/Passing - 81 DRI and 81 PAS allow him to even send accurate through balls and he has great composure/reactions at the CB position (something I'm starting to value more)

Chemistry Links - Premier League and Brazilian Nationality are easily linkable

Stamina - 75 is a bit low compared to some of the newer cards that have been released that offer the height/pace combo

Work Rates - Medium Medium WR are not as ideal as Med/High or Low/High

David Luis review - from a semi pro eye
By JorgenFlopp, 18-02-2019

This is the card of David Luis, this guy is a Brazilian, that means proper favela power. He is very tall and can put hobbits like Sturnidge and Verminho in his back pocket. This man is a living legend. Look at the picture, that passion.

Pace: his pace is 84 which is very high for a center defender

Shooting: his shooting is 74. Fail by EA, should be 174 to reflect real life

Passing: his passing is 81. Again should be 181, this man is iniesta in a body of a beast

Dribbling: his dribbling is 81. Doesnt matter, you dont need to dribble when you can smash your opponent into orbit and let your Kyle walker handle that ball

Defending: his defending is 91. He will never concede a goal, I guearantee that

Physical: his physical is 88. Nothing to say here, very high physical indeed

No cons. This man is legit favela power. If you need a defender that can defend, this brazilian guy is the guy.

I hope you liked my review, If you did I will do some more and share my thoughts. thank you for reading
