I normally hit Elite 3 and I'm currently in Division 2, so hopefully I have some sort of grasp on the game and players! Needed a left winger with links to Schweinsteiger and Villa, so was pretty much left with picking an icon. Wanted one of the cheaper ones as I only wanted to use him for the Weekend League as I'm liquid for TOTS. Monitored some prices of various icons, found a Giggs 10% below where he'd been selling all day, so picked him up. I just wanted someone who could run the line for me and do the basics, his two star weak foot and finishing stats were both big concerns going into the WL. Then I played half a WL with him...
Last year Flashback Robben's weak foot really annoyed me and I expected something similar with Giggs. As of yet, I've not noticed it at all and he scored a right footed goal, which was a neat near post finish. I'm using a sniper on him which doesn't boost shot power, however I've not noticed this to be an issue. I can recall one good chance he should have scored that was saved, other than that he'd been quite clinical when presented with a good goalscoring opportunity and even scored a well placed weak footed goal from near the penalty area.
Overall he has massively exceeded expectations, he's great at running the line, but also offers a lot centrally and has been surprisingly productive and efficient with his play. I was using Prime Barnes prior to picking him up - Giggs' excellent close dribbling and ability to manoeuvre in tight spaces combined with a good burst of pace down the line and surprisingly good off the ball movement in central areas just about edge him infront for me. That was definitely something I didn't expect prior to using him.
Giggs generally has a bad reputation in the Fifa community as an unusable icon. Using his base version this is definitely not something I would agree with and from my experience he is someone who can make a difference in the WL against good opposition,
Dribbling - He's quick when sprinting with the ball and has excellent close ball control meaning he can manoeuvre very well in confined areas and buy an extra yard of space other cards can't.
Pace - Has the legs to get ahead of the last defender and does a good job at getting on the end of through balls.
Movement - I have him on "Get into box" for crosses and when moving into central positions off the ball I often find him in pockets of space unoccupied by the opponent which allows me to keep possession and pressure around the opponents box.
Productivity - Despite his shooting stats being poor for an attacking icon he has taken most of the goalscoring chances that have fallen his way. The above points allow him to create chances and although he is only on 6 assists in 15 games I imagine if secondary assists were included he would have a far higher number. His passing is good enough to move the ball in tight areas although it is not an outstanding part of his game.
He doesn't possess the 'wow' factor and the ability to win a game by himself, compared to Messi or Eusebio for example.
He lacks a little bit of strength, however with his dribbling this is something that can be largely mitigated.
So I was lucky enough to pack an untradeable TOTY Alisson and a tradeable TOTY Messi Last Thursday.
As I wanted to try Politano and Malcuit on the right side first, I needed to change the team a bit. I didn't want to cut IF Varane so playing Mendy on 7 chem was necessary.
Playing an ingame 4-2-3-1 with Messi on CAM, this card is simply INSANE!
30 games of Weekend League Mode with astonishing 54 goals and 24 assists, this card is undefendable.
Pace Rating: 10/10
Acceleration is on point, his speed is enormous,too.
Shooting Rating: 11/10
This card scores form every position unless the keeper isn't moved and even if he'S moving he still scores 8 out of 10
Passing Rating: 10/10
Playing Messi on CAM, he always made key through-passes on the wingers or Neymar which I play as CF, his passing game is unreal
Defending Rating: N/A
He didn't need to defend anyway, what he did was winning the duels with strong CBs but more on that on the physical area!
Physical Rating:10/10
TOTY Messi wins duels with defenders, which comes from his high balance and strength abilities. He will easily push CBs like Scream Piqué or VVD aside and conquers the ball
It's really just un unfair card!!
There is no con, if you are lucky like me and packed him, this is the best card you can play.
