FUTBIN Player Review

TOTSSF Kroos

Day 1381 of lockdown: In this review, we take a look at one of EA’s perennial whipping boys in the German machine, Toni Kroos.  I am not sure what the likes of Thiago, Lewandowski and Kroos himself have done to an employee at EA, but they simply get the ultimate disrespect year in and year out with their in-game statistics;  the biggest slap in the face coming in the pace department.  For Kroos this has condemned him to the depths of unassigned fodder piles for the majority of this year, until now.  It was definitely the incredible 36+ pace boost from Kroos’ base card that has made all the difference and turned the German into a useable option.  But they did not stop there, rounding off all base stats and leaving Kroos well planted in the Gullit Gang.  It is worth noting that the gang has added many new members of late, but only a select few can bolster statistics of 90+ in Shooting, Dribbling, and Passing (only four other cards).  After looking over all of Kroos' impressive attributes I went with the ENGINE chemistry style and deployed the Real Madrid locomotive in the more attacking CM of a 4-4-2.  Toni Kroos was the metronome, keeping time all weekend in the following squad:

Overall

Rating: 9/10
Pace Rating: 9/10
Dribbling Rating: 8/10
Shooting Rating: 9.5/10
Passing Rating: 9.9/10
Physical Rating: 9/10
Defending Rating: 9/10

There have been a few questions and concerns about the ratings of late and so I wanted to address the why with this card (something I plan to do in the future in this section).  I went with a 9/10 with this card for a few reasons.  One, the direct comparison to a more recent review in Thiago who I believe was rightly given a 9.2.  Kroos has many superior attributes, but the agility and movement of Thiago is more suited to the FIFA 20 meta.  2. I cannot go lower than a 9/10 as that would suggest a card that is borderline not useable.  Kroos has many fantastic qualities and was a key to my Elite finish this weekend.

With that out of the way let’s dive into some details starting with the biggest enigma about this card, the pace.  95 ACCELERATION, but only 78 SPRINT SPEED were amazingly accurate.  I could not believe how fast Kroos moves when he picks up the ball in space or immediately after a tackle.  However, he hits top gear in about three strides and your opponent is immediately closing in on you.  If you are quick with your play it is not a big issue offensively, but defensively it did cause problems when tracking opponents.

Linkability

Linkability Rating: 4/5

Again… seriously I feel like a broken record in this section.  The old Galácticos model feels in full effect with the growing list of Real Madrid superstars available in FIFA 20.  Especially after the release of the TOTSSF which offered some excellent options.   Additionally, the growing list of German options is about to be significantly bolstered by the Bundesliga TOTSSF. Given the centralized position of this card, there is no doubt you can get Kroos in the majority of squads.

End Game Strength

End Game Strength Rating: 4/5

As much as I enjoyed this card throughout the weekend, there is just no way Kroos will survive the onslaught of cards to come.  Honestly, you would think it is the pace judging by the statistics … but for me, it was the dribbling that will rule this card out of future squad equations.  You can blame 76 AGILITY as the culprit that will cripple this card, while a taller 6’0 (183 cm) card and AVERAGE body type are not helping matters at all.  This card simply cannot turn with any type of pace and takes away from a lot of options in the middle of the pitch.  I tried Kroos in both a deeper and attacking CM and in both cases the turning was a huge deficiency.  Finally, add in the 3 STAR SKILLS and this card is just a quagmire of terrible dribbling, which is ironic given it is his second highest base statistic.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 5/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 4.5/5

While he might not last the test of time, I do believe Kroos is more than a useable option at the moment and well worth 200k (an absurd price and speaks to the FUT disrespect this man gets).  I called him the metronome earlier because metronomes keep time, rhythm and the beat of the music, and I honestly felt Kroos was the conductor in the sympathy of my squad all weekend.   The two keys here are the surprising acceleration upping the tempo while his outrageous passing created the pulse of the squad.  The ENGINE chemistry puts all in-game passing statistics at 99 and you can actually feel the quality.  While 9 assists from CM is not a blockbuster return, it was the play before my goals that Kroos positively impacted all weekend.

While the good far outweighs the bad, the fact that Kroos falls outside of the meta with his dribbling leaves him beyond a perfect 5/5 for me.  Yet, it is worth noting there are not many other issues… in fact, the card is insane otherwise.  5 STAR WEAK FOOT with 97 SHOT POWER & 96 LONG SHOTS leads to some incredibly entertaining efforts from distance. Unfortunately, the entertainment continues with his 84 FINISHING as you never quite know where the ball will end up and which member of the crowd might be in danger.  7 goals certainly could have been higher given the quality positions Kroos put himself in throughout the weekend.

Closing Words

The final category I have missed is the defending with this card.  As I said before I did try Kroos in a more defensive role but I just felt he could not get around the pitch quick enough in a two man midfield.  However, as a more attacking CM, I did notice the card intelligence when tracking back (and 92 STAMINA held up box to box given the Med/Med work rates). Kroos would constantly make the correct tracking runs to help in defence and his 93 INTERCEPTIONS felt more like 193.  I swear this card is constantly breaking up play and was a huge addition in the midfield this weekend.  In the end, what I would say about Kroos is that if you need him to fit into your squad and do a job… he will.  If you need him to be the game changer and run the midfield… he can’t.  Instead, he is a facilitator and if surrounded by the right players can create magic in the middle.  He did for me, and he would do the same for you.  Cheers for reading.

Toni kroos all round midfielder
By Stoneisland697, 09-05-2020

when first seeing this card i decided to put aside how terrible this gameplay is and buy my favourite player with one of the most ridiculous pace upgrades (36 from base card) in all of fifa. i didn't expect fifa to give him this sick of a card on basically every aspect. i played him as a right cdm with shadow who joins the attack and must say that this might be the most underpriced card in this game. 250 k for a card like this is a joke even in team of the season. his defensive presence is excellent because of his pretty much perfect defending stats with a shadow and his 90 strength, i was kind of worried about his aggression because this is one of my favourite stats to have on a defensive oriented player but this was not too noticeable, i found that aggressive interceptions helps with this if you find it noticeable. his positioning both attacking and defensive wise is very good, on balanced attack he made nasty runs when you needed him to en when you are defending on cut passing lanes and cover center he will always have good chance at intercepting.

his shooting stats are incredible and this shows in game. for a cdm he will finish everything you want him to and he scored 3 times in 6 fut champs games ( 1 long shot ) ( 1 ez finish ) ( 1 out of box volley ) passing stats are also top notch but this should speak for itself, what i find especially fun about this card is that it actually feels like playing with kroos in real life if you get what im saying, pace is very good. don't worry about sprint speed he is a midfielder its not like he makes runs all the time beyond the defence like adama traore so his acceleration was fine. agility and balance is probably the reason this guy is so cheap because of the fact that the fifa community is extremely meta dependent but i found that his other stats like composure and ball control still make him feel very smooth on the ball and hard to push off under pressure. all around great player 5/5 would recommend using in your team

TOTSSF Kroos Review

I picked this card of in the La Liga Guaranteed SBC and.. wow. By far top 3 best midfielders i've used this year. I'm currently using him as a right CDM but on occasions i move him to CAM and get this best from his shooting stats. I use him along side De Jong and Saul in the midfield and they're like architects. This card compared to Saul is like comparing Messi to Jesse Lingard, Its incomparable. This card is by far the most overpowered underpriced card you can find on the market. His outside the box shots , ball control, passing, all insane. The only big downside to this card is definitely his agility and sprint speed. In game you can't really feel the sprint speed but the agility is most defiantly noticeable.

Kroos the midfield maestro
By Exquisite94, 16-05-2020

I got him in my red picks and decided to try him out as a cdm, replacing 90 rated Pep Guardiola that i got from my prime icon pack. I first doubted that he'll be a better cdm than Pep, mainly because his sprint speed and jumping stats are abysmal. but after 15 games in WL, he is a total game changer. His defending does not feel inferior to Pep's and he excels at every other department.

His passing are without a doubt one of the best in the game, just amazing! At cdm, he is able to perfectly distribute the ball to my forwards.

He holds the ball well, feels quite agile despite his low agility stat. And with his 99 acceleration with a shadow chem style, he can chase anyone to put up pressure when u make a mistake in defending, but note that you will have to switch to your other players because ultimately, he will get outpaced in about 2-3 seconds. (enough time for you to use other players to chase your opponent, or cut passing lane)

His sprint speed can also be a problem when you defend against counter attack. I use him to take corners, just so that other players will take care of defending against a counter attack. If you have high pace defenders, this will not be too much of a problem.

He is a really good box to box midfielder, i mostly use him on stay back while attacking, but when im chasing a goal, i have him on join the attack and he can contribute a lot up the field.

Overall TOTSSF Kroos have been amazing for me. He is an all rounder midfield that can attack and defend. He is a much better player than 90 rated Pep Guardiola, and even a lot better than 91 rated Veron. For a 96 rated player that cost less than 200k, he is a relatively cheap player that will improve your squad.

On a personal note, I feel that it is only good to play him at cdm, if you have really fast CBs and FBs to cover behind him.

The German Gullit

Wow. Kroos is a god. He is by far the best cdm I have used in this game. I brought him in a few games into weekend league because my TOTS Saul was incompetent and oblivious to the world he was in. I am a consistent gold 3 player but this weekend I made it to gold 1 thanks to Kroos. I have previously used UCL Live Partey as well and lets just say Kroos makes them look like Karius in the UCL final. The way he is a magnet to the ball and blocks is insane. Don't let his 74 aggression fool you. He is essentially Akinfenwa on steroids (his 90 strength might have something to do with this). All you have too do when defending is use Kroos and he will barge players like TOSF Benzema off the ball. Sometimes even without pressing tackle he will pull a John Cena and throw strikers around like frisbees. Once he got the ball back he would easily get the team out of trouble with a pass with either foot (5* WF). He has great attacking position too. As a cdm I would find him inside the 18 making dangerous runs and scoring a few cheeky goals. Normally I would be concerned with my cdm being inside the oppositions 18 on attack but his 92 stamina and his stats with a shadow gave me now fear because I knew he would be able to track back. In conclusion... Kroos is the best non Icon CDM in the game right now.

He surprise me in all games. He is awesome in defence and master in interceptions. His defending abilities are very good and he plays like a real defender and attack as a cam. He can do this during all game and does not leave space behind. Although he has low agility, it isn't the same in game as he can easily dribble his opponents. He is similar to Vidal in defending but in attacking as good as De Bruyne.

i got kroos from the laliga guarented pack at first i was planning on using him as a substitute for 91 antoine griezman but i tried him in extratime in a fut chams match he totally changed the flow of the game his shot go in the goal like rockets his passing is spot on his phisicscallity rivals that of a cb his defensive are very good for a midfielder his only problem is his agility i would recomend him if you need an all round cm or as a cam with a hunter and even can be played as cdm with a shadow or powerhouse

Sick but huge problem
By GordonOfFutbin6, 25-05-2020

Defensively he’s a beast. Felt like he was all over the pitch, making interceptions left right and centre. In the attacking third when he pushed on, he was fantastic, never doubted him in front of goal. His finishing is out of this world, especially outside the box, them finesse shots, my god were they consistent. But but but, the big downfall to this card is his agility. Felt sluggish and cost me possession numerous times. Like when he receives the ball, against the better players who know how and when to press, he always got stuck and dispossessed. Pace was fine, passing was top notch and yeah everything apart from agility was good.

this is my first ever review on futbin but he figured i had to write a review because he is absoloutely amazing. so i packed this guy out of a garaunteed la liga pack at first when i saw his price i was very dissapointed but he linked in my squad quite well because of the strong links to varane, gattuso, hierro, and tots odegard. so i played him in cdm ' first he made most tackles every pass direct but then id remebered about his amazing passing shooting and driblling so changed his tactics so he joined the attack and oh my word this was the best decision ever his long through into james never dissapoint and because of his hight and strenght plus amazing dribbling makes him almost untouchable on the ball because of his 35 pace boost this man is officialy the best member of gullit gang

Kroos - Small game player
By Roemerbaneke, 20-05-2020

First of all I want to say that I'm a gold 1 player, elite 3 is there but most of the time I stop at gold 3/2 with the state of this game. I used kroos all 30 games last weekend, I was pretty happy when I got him in reds cos he looks useable and he fit my team perfectly.

Pace first, he feels quicker than expected, but that's like expectations done pretty fast cuz when he actually starts running he's slow even with a boost from chemstyles. So he feels pretty quick but you notice he isn't, he's not gonna catch up to someone.

I used him as a cdm in a 442(2), sometimes 4231 and on very rare occasions a 41212(2). For this position I usually don't need anyone that can shoot. Kroos can shoot, but for me he doesn't get in that position so it was not that useful. I think he scored like 2 or 3 goals which is aight.

His Passing is like you'd expect, good, long balls, short balls, everything will do. I must say though, that, and this is probably more of a dribbling thing, he misses passes easily when coming out of a turn, he will do that way too soft pass thing where he almost falls. But mostly his passing was good.

His dribbling was good, as long as he didn't get in any tight spots. He feels super heavy, the agility is a problem with this meta. His in-game dribbling is pretty good though, just don't expect him to turn or go past any defenders. It'll do the job if you play him as a playmaker to deliver to wingers/attackers.

Defending and physical I'll do together, first the defending, if Kroos get's in the right place, he'll make a tackle for you, the getting in the right place was an issue, his medium/medium is but ideal for a cdm, I felt like he was in the wrong place while defending a LOT. Sometimes my high/high Kimmich was all alone defending ben yedder, neymar, mbappe and messi. A lot of goals I feel like were caused due to his defending positioning. His physical is good, stamina will do the job so you don't have to waste a Kent or Orsic sub on him. His strength is good and agression is a little poor although is still a bit vague what that actually does.

By Laangyyy, 13-05-2020

So I packed this guy in rare players pack form SBC, and decided to replace my basic sissoko (who was incredible for me). I played him in 4-2-3-1 (not wide one) as one of cdms with tots kovacic. I played like five wl games with him and 10 rival matches (division five, wl rank gold 1).

Firstly, his passing - absolutely broken. Doesnt matter if your opponent has sissoko or vieira, he will always find player you want to pass (even when he is turned 180 away). When u have time with him, have fast attackers with good runs, it is really deadly, he is great creator. However, because of his low speed and bad agility, you often dont have lot of time to create smthng. His shooting is alright, but he smashed a few great chances for me (i think even sissoko would score them). Too, I dont understand why he is using his outside foot all the time when he has 5* wf. Sometimes, it ends your action because of this supidity. His ball control, composure and reactions are great, but that agility is really bad (feels worse than sissokos movement). Too, his acceleration doesnt seem like 90, more like 83, and with 73 sprint speed he isnt able to catch players like ben yedder, what sissoko could. However, his defensive positioning and pass interceptions are good. But again, when defending, that speed and agility depends a lot.

I am not sure if I should play him or smash him to sbc because of high rating.

On the other ide, I must say its kinda fun to play with him, when gameplay is good, you really feel that you control the game with him, like he does irl.

I got him untre, but 230k is good price for him if you dont want meta players and want to enjoy the game, especially if u are RM fan.

- defensive and offensive positioning

- ball control

- 5* wf (however sometimes he stupidly avoids to use it)
