FUTBIN Player Review

TOTSSF Gómez

Day 1521 of lockdown: As the countdown to the end of TOTS begins we continue to get a wide array of interesting options, creating daily team changes as new and interesting cards continue to hit the market.  The Serie A was no different and it did not take me long to choose the direction I wanted to go.  Alejandro Darío Gómez has been one of my go to cards since FIFA 17… I say go to but in reality I never really use this card until TOTS comes around, but when it does, this card is always worth the wait.  However, I do not believe there has been a FIFA more suited to Gómez like FIFA 20.  The short and lean body type mixed with a wide assortment of attributes leaves this card feeling like a F1 Mercedes.  The main concern coming into this review was always going to be the strength and whether or not Gómez and his quality could compensate for his smaller stature.  In the end I went for the FINISHER chemistry style to all but max out his shooting and provide some added of that added strength.  In the end the HAWK chemistry style might have been a better option but the difference would be minimal.  I played Gómez as the Left ST in my 4-4-2 all weekend as we dived into the abyss one more time.  You will note the La Albiceleste triangle, as I went for round 2 in the ring with Martinez (review to come) while utilizing the links and talents of Dybala all weekend. In the end, Alejandro Gómez was the Ant-Man in my squad all weekend:

Overall

Rating: 9.4/10
Pace Rating: 9.7/10
Dribbling Rating: 9.9/10
Shooting Rating: 9.5/10
Passing Rating: 9.5/10
Physical Rating: 6/10
Defending Rating: N/A

This rating is one of pure research and zero emotion.  I was saving this for my conclusion but I think it just needs to be put out there before I go any further.  I strongly believe that the 9.4 with this card is accurate and might be a slight injustice to Gómez given his weekend league returns… but where I am going is that if I gave this card a rating based on FUT enjoyment he would be 10/10 hands down.  There are a few cards I have used this FIFA (some in drafts) that just genuinely bring me joy to use.  Prince Griezmann (FUT Bday), any version of Eusebio and R9 (only used in drafts but still insane), TOTS Alphonso Davies, TOTS Suarez, and now TOTS Gómez all make my list.  I am sure there are more I have not used, and I am leaving a few out, but I think it just shows the good company Gómez is in.  The key with this card is all in the dribbling.  99 AGILITY, 99 BALANCE, and 4 STAR SKILLS… this card looks like a figure skater flying around the ice with tight turns and explosive pace… and this magic on the ball makes defenders around Gómez look like they entered the ice with boots on.  I cannot overstate how responsive this card feels on the ball and the left stick dribbling is just incredible.

Linkability

Linkability Rating: 4/5

The Serie A TOTS comes equipped with all you need for Gómez to get into any squad.  True the Atalanta options are not nearly as extensive as our past reviews, but there is a nice list of Argentine options to make those hybrids happen.

End Game Strength

End Game Strength Rating: 5/5

Strength might be the keyword here, and I will certainly get into that in my Good vs Bad section… but in the end, I was swayed by the qualities Gómez does possess, and not what he was missing.  The 99 ACCELERATION on this card is borderline insulting as Gómez takes off like a fighter jet and then he has the 93 SPRINT SPEED to continue causing issues.  I will say (and this is why I suggested HAWK chemistry style earlier) that at times I found Gómez didn’t quite have the pace that you would expect from 93 SPRINT SPEED.  However, you mix the crazy acceleration with the fantastic dribbling and you create a ton of chances by simply turning opponents… and then… Gómez buries his chances with incredible venom.  Left foot, right foot, it did not matter, the 99 SHOOTING was evident throughout the weekend resulting in 30 goals from 20 matches.  One weird observation was that Gómez has his own shooting trajectory that is lower than any card I have reviewed… he constantly hit the ball hard, but lower and especially on his left foot.  This actually came in handy and removed a lot of diving saves that I would have expected to lead to quality finishes into the bottom of the goal.  Interesting and effective.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 5/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 4.5/5

I think the 850k for this card is laughable, and of course there are quite a few reasons why this is.  I would heavily lean towards the fact that Gómez is not a classic FUT card and therefore FUT Managers just aren’t as interested in him, regardless of his ability.  Whatever the reason, this card is a steal, and while I have to move on to future reviews I would love this card in my red picks this week and he would revival even the most effective of bench options.

I mentioned the 30 goals, but Gómez also chipped in with 14 assists and this is a direct result of the excellent passing on this card.  So the question you might have is, how is this card getting a 4.5 after all of these rave reviews?  The answer goes back to my comment about pure research. No amount of fun or love for this card can hide the fact that Gómez is probably up there with the weakest cards I have used.  It takes a lot to lay a hand on this card, but when it happens, the ball is ALWAYS gone.  I swear in one match Big Virg sighed and the wind knocked Gómez off his stride.  This of course is compounded by the fact that the Sprint Speed isn’t 100% there and it did lead to some issues as the weekend got more difficult.  With the constant inclusion of more and more 90+ defenders I can see this card getting bullied more and more each weekend. However, I repeat, they do have to lay a hand on Gómez first… and with all of his tools it can be a lot harder than it sounds.

Closing Words

I went a bit overboard in some categories so let’s be short and sweet.  I brought in a personal FUT favorite to see if the tradition continues, and it does.  In fact, this would be up there and maybe even takes the crown as my favorite version of TOTS Gómez ever.  FIFA 20 was made for Gómez, and I think Gómez might just be made for some of you. Cheers for reading.

This card has left me absolutely speechless. I opened a free pack from doing a objective on the first day of series a totssf and out walked this lad. I was in utter shock when I packed him as this is the best pack I've ever had on fifa. He didn't fit into my team, but I sold quite a few players to help him fit in. This card hit the ground running scoring 5 times and getting 3 assists in my first 2 rivals matches. He works like a perfectly oiled machine. He played Lam in a 4-2-2-2 with RTTF Lautaro Martinez and 86 Werner infront of him. This man was able to compliment those two perfectly. Werner and Martinez aren't real dribblers so Gomez was able to do all the hard work and all they had to do was finish. His dribbling is just out of this planet. He's so nimble and get around defenders with ease. The pace is perfect as well, he's able to blitz past defenders like it's no ones business. His passing as well as pinpoint every time. He's able to find the perfect man with every pass I do, and the occasional cross that I do it manages to land perfectly at the feet of another player to bury it. His shooting as well is just absolutely absurd. Tight angles, having to shoot near post or chipping the goalkeeper he could do everything and do it with ease. His stamina as well is fantastic even if he has 84 fitness at the start of the game he'll only be down to about 1/2-3/4 of a bar. I have truly never played with a player of this quality. If you have the coins buy this man, you will not regret it.

Pace-Runs by everyone.

Shooting- His finishing is crazy good

Passing- Short and long as well as his crosses.

Dribbling- Literally everything there is no downside to his dribbling.

He is a bit weak.

Headers aren't very accurate.

PAPU!
By ArnieHira, 27-05-2020

Where do I start? I'll start on how I got him. Recently my pack luck has been really good. I got Hazard from a gold upgrade, I got TOTS Alisson when he was 200k and sold him, I got TOTS Robbo from an untradeable SBC, and just two days ago, I got TOTS De Vrij from a gold upgrade skip pack. That same player I opened my twitch prime pack, and in the player pick there was Kante. Then I did the Serie A upgrade, the one with 2 81+ Serie A players. I turned off my TV and opened the pack. I waited 10 seconds before I turned on the TV and was greeted with this guy. Then I saw he cost 1 million coins, and unfortunately for me, it was untradeable. So then I had to give him a try. On his first game for me, he scored a hat trick and made the opponent rage quit. Then in his next games he just kept on scoring. He hasn't played a game in which he hasn't scored. In my most recent game, I beat my opponent 6-0, and Gomez scored 5 of the goals. Also most of his shots do go in the net, and in the first game he scored a hat trick in, he only had 3 shots. In-game I use a 4-2-2-2 with Gomez up front next to Aguero in-game.

Magic!!!
By Gurraboy, 30-05-2020

Where should I start? This guy is without a doubt the best I've used. I got in my Tots Series a pack and didn't really think he would be that good. His speed and his agility make him completely unstoppable. His shots are absolutely fantastic. Clinical and completely inaccessible to any goalkeeper entirely. Could not afford to buy him so it is probably the bad thing but at the same time he is worth every coin. Buy him and link him with Veron or Zanetti you won't regret.

A different review
By Scoregg, 23-06-2020

I know, I'm pretty late writing this review, with not that much players playing, but I had to wait some time to convince myself to write it. I won't talk about how great he feels on the ball or that basic stuff you see in the other reviews, enough of that, if you want to see the same shit all the time, read the other 5 or 6 reviews.

In May, I still thought that keeping my coins and saving them for the ultimate market crash and build my dream team was the right choice, but I just couldn't bother myself playing until Mid August, so I saw Gómez could fit my team with 8 chem, and picked him up. I used the hawk chemistry style, simply because I can't waste a hunter, won't use a finisher to boost his strength, but I thought he still needed the extra sprint speed and extra agression, which I find extremely vital, if you don't know what agression does, if you have the ball, and the opponent tackles you, having high agression will boost the chance off keeping the ball with you, it can mean other things, but that's my main definition.

The first matches Gómez played, he scored some nice goals, the 99 finishing with 99 shot power really showed, but those goals were near post finishes, basic finesse shots, so I wasn't that surprised. Yes, he felt amazing on the ball, but the goals he was scoring, weren't that great, I could use Ben Yedder gold and still score those. So after a few matches more, I decided to sell him. Played one more match, and it was the most disgusting thing ever seen, DDA really stood out, so after having a mental breakdown and listening XXXTentacion, I decided that was my last Weekend League, and in the end, I didn't sell him and used him.

The thing with this card goes way more further than being smooth and great pace and shooting, there are hundreds of players like that in the game. You know when you buy a card and performs with excellence his first matches, and then he plays like shit? With Gómez that never happened, in fact, he went from great to amazing. The main pro with this card is his dribbling, so obvious right? Have you seen in reviews from similar players, phrases like this? "He can pass any defender with ease, no one can catch him, even on bad gameplay he feels the same way". That is a complete lie. Not one card can feel great on the ball with bad gameplay like he feels with good gameplay, it just doesn't. And "he can pass any defender with ease", then why aren't you on top 100 or elite 1??

I had horrible delay my first 18 matches, and Gómez didn't perform that good. I was 7-11. Completely devastated. Went on to finish my last 12 games. Won them all. What the fuck. I had the best gameplay I had in all year, and that is when Gómez made his show. The best acceleration, the best dribbler, the best balance, the best weak foot, the best everything. When you come here to Futbin to watch a player's stats, and you see in the RPP that he is a 97 rated CAM with an engine (example), and then you try him out, and yeah, he is great but nowhere near as a 97 rated. Gómez, being already a 97 rated CAM, really seemed like one. He is absolutely the best player I have used, and I have used TOTWM Messi ( got him in my reds), I have used Lautaro, Dybala, Reus, all these good TOTS attackers, Gómez is better than them. If you have consistently good gameplay, try this guy out, and don't try to score only with him, play normally, play like always, wait for the right chance, pass it to him, make a quick turn, bang it top corner, shush, but not the opponent, but the fans, play like it's real football, enjoy Gómez, and thank you for reading my review, not a stat like review, but a real review of how a player should be.

Best positive surprise so far
By Joripe, 01-06-2020

This guy is just insane (this is a cliche but is the truth). You will notice that he is super fast, has great balance and he can score amazing goals with is weak foot. One more note: if the servers are working "normally" this guy will scare you with his power.

I ve tried many good players (Dybala; Promes; Di Maria; Visca; Rafa; Mahrez; Giovinco; Insigne) and for me he is the best among these names. His chemistry style is Hawk and I use him as CAM in the usual tatic 4231.Remember that every single player can be trash if the servers are running bad.

SHOOTING (weak foot included)

If you know how to handle him you won´t notice that he is a dwarf. I prefer naming him little giant.
