FUTBIN Player Review

Summer Heat Bernardo Silva

Lockdown restarted.  While the French flags keep waving in the Summer Heat, we decided to take a look at the latest installment of the Portuguese playmaker, Bernardo Silva.  If you were like me, you completed the Player Moments Silva after hearing all of the hype about his agility, quickness and goal-scoring ability; then you realized that the rumors were true and Silva was an insane option.  PM Bernardo was a staple in my Rivals grind throughout this year and often lost his WL place to the constant bombardment of new and shiny RW options.  Now… we have yet another new and shiny option in a bolstered 4 STAR WEAK FOOT Summer Heat Bernardo Silva himself.  When I decided to review Bernardo I realized that my normal 4-4-2 would not suffice.  Playing Bernardo as a RM would not provide enough information to really assess his quality… while a ST review would not be a realistic position to use this card in the end.  So without further ado, I give you the return to the 4-2-3-1 as I deployed Summer Heat Silva as the CAM, using a HAWK chemistry style in an attempt to improve his attacking ability.  Bernardo Silva was the sprinkle of stardust all weekend in the following squad:

Overall

Rating: 9.4/10
Pace Rating: 9.5/10
Dribbling Rating: 9.9/10
Shooting Rating: 9/10
Passing Rating: 9.5/10
Physical Rating: 7.5/10
Defending Rating: N/A

It is important to remember that this is strictly a CAM review… and the rating is 100% reliant on that positioning.  After the 20 matches, I was not 100% comfortable going into the final 10 with a formation I have seldom used.  In order to go back to the 4-4-2 I had to play Bernardo as a CM, which changed to ST, and finally as a RM…why?  Because he was simply not suited for any of these other rolls and I had to continuously try something different to get him in the squad.  Don’t get me wrong, he can certainly do a job in these areas, but there are just so many better options even at 240k.  However, at CAM… There are not many which are better.  The two keys for Silva in the middle of the pitch are quickness and agility… and he has an abundance of both to turn defenders inside out and find the space required to make the killer pass or test the keeper on his magic left foot.  This should all come as no surprise given the 99 ACCELERATION, 95 SPRINT SPEED, 99 AGILITY, 99 BALANCE, 99 BALL CONTROL & 99 DRIBBLING.  I guess I am just clarifying that the stats don’t lie, they feel good, and you can produce magic moments on the ball with only the left stick and the trust that he will get the job done.  I should add that even the drag backs with this card felt extra smooth and some of my opponent's defenders are still looking for the ball.

Linkability

Linkability Rating: 4/5

While the Summer Heat has continued to provide more and more Premier League options, I would say that the Portuguese and Man City options remain a bit lacking.  Additionally, Bernardo does offer a fantastic link to all of you Bruno Fernandes completers, but I would suggest they would be jostling for the same position as well.  There are certainly options to get Silva into any squad, just not as many as I would like.

End Game Strength

End Game Strength Rating: 5/5

Again, let’s not lose sight of the premise behind this review.  As a CAM I really don’t think there can be too many better yet to come, and there certainly are not many better at the moment… at least not anywhere near this price tag.  One area that really drove my appreciation for Bernardo was in his shooting ability.  With 98 FINISHING, 98 SHOT POWER, and a 4 STAR WEAK FOOT we of course expect some results.  However, I was not expecting the level of potency I received in this card and I would be lying if I did not say his 24 goal return is WAY above what I expected.  On his left Bernardo is incredibly reliable and solid… while his right foot varies from feeling like a 5 STAR one second, to a 3 STAR the next.  Impressive when you get the 5 STAR results… maddening when the next match he fluffs everything and is the reason for a slightly lower shooting rating.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 4/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 4/5

240k for a card of this level and quality seems more than fair to me and if you complete Silva I do not think it will be a regret later.  One quality I have not covered is the passing range and quality with Silva.  Due to the nature of the 4-2-3-1 it would have been impossible to get anything going and flowing without the quickness and passing accuracy that Bernardo brings to the table.  He zips the ball into space and feet with relative ease and then his high/high work rates have him immediately on the move to get into yet another quality position to do it all over again.  I really did expect that the goals and assists Bernardo produced would have been flipped, but he just kept scoring and scoring which ultimately took away from the number of assists he definitely would have normally racked up.  The shots kept falling to him, and he kept pulling the trigger with devastating effect.  So, the only reason I go with a 4/5, in this case, is the fact you are only paying 240k, but then it is for only one position.  I find the lack of versatility really hinders what I would have liked to pay for this card, and it might affect you too.

No matter where you play Silva the physical stats are going to be a letdown.  Really, the only true negatives I found with Silva where his 67 STRENGTH, the mixture of height and 69 JUMPING, and his 99 STAMINA.  Yes, his stamina.  I don’t think it is a hidden mistake or anything, but as a CAM with the high/high work rates I found the drop off in Silva’s quality shocking around minute 70.  I honestly think it comes down to as I said before, how reliant this card is on quickness and agility.  As these assets started to drain I started to get a more and more watered down version of this Silva’s talents.  Not a huge deal after I realized the issue and had a sub prepared each match, but just another small niggle against this card overall.

Closing Words

It is no doubt that as a CAM Summer Heat B. Silva impressively pulls the strings and makes the team dance to the puppet masters tune.  However, playing him in any other area felt like I was the dummy and playing a man down compared to the super squads I was facing.  So my recommendation is as simple as that.  If you like formations with one or two CAMs then you will not find many better… Silva connects midfield to attacking beautifully and then carries his own offensive threat that was a treat to use.  On the other hand, at literally anywhere else on the pitch I would steer clear.  Cheers for reading.

The BEAST has returned!!!
By futprof, 09-07-2020

Ok before we start with the serious part of the review I need to make one thing clear: this card is so insane, I swear to god I never loved any of my girlfriends the way I love this card!

This beast finally got the one thing he has been missing all year long, the 4*WF and also some nice upgrades on his stats, just look at those Dribbling base card stats, holy shit! Now to be honest I was hoping for a 5*WF but that’s life I guess and lets be humble, a 4*WF is a nice thing to have, lets goo! His Moments version has been usable up until now to be honest, even if there are plenty of better options by now. Its different with this one - I'm 100% sure that this man can compete with any other RW until the end of Fifa 20! He has almost maxed out pace, dribbling and shooting stats, good passing and 4*4*. This guy sticks to the ball just like the big boys out there (Messi & co). But just like it was the case with his Moments version, the most important thing about Bernardo Silva are his movement and runs without the ball: thaqnks to the high/high workrates he uses every god damn open spot, no matter how tight it is, he gets in there, flies past your opponents players in Naruto-style fashion and smashes the ball in. His shots are so crisp and direct, you won't have that "Oh I somehow need to lift my leg for like 10 seconds before shooting" with Bernardo! Also he brings along some nice links, wether you want CR7, Bruno Fernandes, KDB or Eusebio (for the ones out there whose mum does have a credit card). 5* skills would have been nice, but most of us do not neccessarily need that, if we're being honest.

I can't describe him in any other way but that he just feels "right". He leaves no doubt that you made the right choice by doing him! I played him in every attacking position as he clearly can do so, but I liked him the most in the CAM spot (doesn’t matter too much if left, right or mid since he got that WF upgrade) and also I  suggest the HAWK fits him best since he needs that shot power boost.

Looking at the price I have to say wow, I actually thought he would be locate somewhere near the Ribery price section, which would have made sense IF he got the 5*WF upgrade. The price we have to pay now (even if you have no fodder at all) is completely fair, you might even call it a steel!

If you enjoyed his 91, you are gonna love this car
By Steven47, 09-07-2020

To start off, I was a huge fan of Bernardo Silva's TOTS in FIFA 19 so I instantly did his Moments SBC this FIFA. He was great and I kept him in my team until TOTSSF. His only weakness was 3WF because you don't really want that on your CAM. But this 94 Bernardo Silva comes with a huge boost and 4* WF which is a gamechanger.

As for his stats, he is fast enough but I still used Hawk just to boost his pace a little bit. His passing is great and he will surely have a huge impact on your game from the CAM position. Thanks to his dribbling, he can keep the ball in difficult situations which is really important. I absolutely love his shooting - he scores bangers from outside the box and when it comes to the penalty area, he rarely misses. And here is where the 4* WF comes to the scene. Moments Silva almost couldn't hit the goal with his right foot but this version of him is finally really decent in terms of shooting with his right foot. It is still not perfect and I recommend you to try shooting mainly with his left foot but his right foot certainly can be useful, especially in the penalty area.

To sum it up, if you enjoyed his moments card and you still need a CAM, this guy is perfect for you. He is one of the best CAMs I have used this year and I will surely keep him to the end of te game.

Big game Bernardo
By Billydog222, 11-07-2020

(Matuidi was swapped in for Sarr in game 20, he seemed to be really good at CB). (Pope is subbed on for Lecomte at the start, he’s still good on 5). Now, onto Bernardo, he is playing at CAM in 4-1-2-1-2, Firmino, Vinicius are ST. Wijnaldum is RCM, Bruno is LCM and Ndombele is CDM. Bernardo is on the stay forward instruction. I applied the hawk chem style

Pace 9/10. He is very quick off the mark. His sprint speed is not perfect, and you can feel that in game but it is still very good, he is very fast overall.

Shooting 9/10. Brilliant finesse shots. Fantastic, powerful finishing. His weak foot is a bit weak but it is still useful to have an option to shoot off of his 4* weak foot.

Passing. 10/10. Perfect. Accurate, powerful.

Dribbling. 10/10. Perfect. Agile. He can take anyone on with his dribbling, he almost never loses the ball.

Physical. 7/10. Brilliant stamina. Very weak. He is very aggressive though, so if he loses the ball, he wins it back a lot.

Special category. (Just for Bernardo). His movement is the best on the game, and the way he moves just makes every other player move better and score or assist more. He makes fantastic runs everywhere. Best movement on the game, (played against everyone under the sun and I’ve used Moments R9 and Eusebio in draft.)

BEST RF in the Game
By SquagglyCat, 09-08-2020

Let me start this review by saying I'm not one to follow the meta too closely by using small players with 5* weak foot, etc. I did this SBC to link up the SH Bruno with my Joao Felix Future Stars at the time but was concerned that he wouldn't be fast enough at this stage of the game (most wingers have 99 pace by now).

Boy was I wrong about this guy! I haven't noticed any disparity in pace between him and Vinicius when darting down the wing, and he is very quick with the ball at his feet. Besides the dribbling, I'd say his composure in one on ones is the defining attribute of this card. When I go 1v1 with the GK with him, the ball hits the back of the net 90% of the time, whether it be finesse, ground shot, or a laser beam. He really doesn't get bullied off the ball despite his low strength, and I never have a problem with his positioning.

The Best CAM I've Used In My Life
By Und4ad, 23-08-2020

When this Bernardo Silva SBC initially came out, I was in Spain on holiday and I thought 'Oh! A good player to link into my SH Bruno which I love!'. Without hesitation, I completed this SBC, with the appeal of the swift feather-like dribbling to grace my screen as soon as I came back home. 2 days ago, I returned, and I loved him. Having not played in 2 months, this man is carrying my team through the Division Rivals grind. I've gone from the depths of Div 6 to solid Div 5, a division I've barely been in this year; only brief stints which have been met with prompt demotions. I'm thrashing even the sweatiest of drop back rats, thanks to this man. It should be noted some of these appearances were off the bench

I slapped a Hunter on him, without realising that a Hawk gave him the exact same Shot Power boost, so that would've probably been ideal just to boost his strength. He is rapid on the ball, it's euphoric to see how his left stick dribbling seems like his boot is a Pritt stick, that's how insane it is. He's completely changed the way I play, as I now utilise the broken left stick dribbling feature much more than ever before. His shooting is incredible, near post, far post, through the goalkeeper's stomach - I don't remember having missed a shot with him. For someone without the Finesse Shot Trait, his finesses were greatly impressive. He was surprisingly strong (probably helped out by his maxed out Balance), and barely got bodied on the ball. His passing was also excellent, as you'll be able to see by the amount of assists I got with him.

Some of the only faults with his card are that: a) his SBC certainly wasn't excellently priced, whilst just over 200k isn't overkill, it could've been a bit less, or EA could've given him 5* SM/WF. b) I notice his Stamina isn't great, I usually take him off around the 70th minute as he doesn't have the legs to compete with someone else I could just bring off the bench. c) As previously mentioned, 5* SM/WF would've been ideal, but it's EA.

. Dribbling (especially with left stick)

. Great finishing

. Pinpoint Passing

. Lack of physicality wasn't that noticeable

. Not great value

. Meh Stamina

. Lack of 5* WF/SM

Good but not great
By Fregley, 09-07-2020

Alright so I just played 3 games with this card and I have to say, he is very good. However, for 250k at this point in the game I don't think he's great. His dribbling is exceptional obviously but he is pretty weak and his finishing is questionable. I don't understand why EA didn't give him 5* WF but 4* is still Ok. If you liked his moment's card you'll want to do this one but tbh he feels about the same. I played him at CAM and he was definitely not better than 94 Bruno Fernandes which was a bit disappointing.
