86 - Winter Refresh
5.0
The most Complete La Liga's midfielder on FUT 20
By Realmadird4ever, 24-02-2020

I was searching on the transfer market and actually I didn't know they released a Winter refreshed version for Herrera.

Actually some months ago I've got his normal card on a pack and since I use a La Liga squad I put an Engine on him and he was a very good sub for my midfielders, So when I saw his special card with those amazing stats for only 22k, I was shocked, I didn't know how people can sell him for only 20k! So I bought him with a 22k with Engine chem applied!

And man you can't believe how much awesome this player is, He runs fast, His agility on the ball is so good, His passing is awesome Hhe's 61 ft , The only downside on this card is its Strength, But the stats lie! He doesn't feel weak and he's good on one on one battles too And when' he's on the pitch he often scores and assist and becomes Man of the match!

I have 86 IF Thomas partey Too, But his 52 balance is a problem and Herrera feels much better!

I swear if Herrera was an EPL fag or an Afro French guy like Kante or Pogba then he could cost around 90 to 100k at least!

Midfield Bully on a Budget

Winter Refresh Héctor Herrera is a rather unassuming card if you look at the face stats. He might strike you as a CDM right off the bat, and for the most part, you'd be right. Herrera, however, is a surprisingly versatile card at almost every area in the central channel on the pitch. He may not excel in agility, pace, or finishing, but what he does provide is a dominant defensive presence to anchor and link your backline to your forwards. The LaLiga CM is a true workhorse, and for those who messed around with the Turkish Arslan SBC card, you'll find similar traits with Refresh Herrera. This card, though, is miles ahead of Arslan in almost every capacity.

The first thing you'll notice is just how good Herrera is in a defensive posture. In a 4-2-3-1 (2), I set him to "drop between defenders" with Guardiola and the man is a bonafide rock in the midfield. He competently fills gaps between my CBs and fullbacks, crucially sniffing out rapid throughballs and cutting off passing/shooting lanes well before the plays get underway. Anyone who's been victimized by a throughball to Neymar knows exactly the sort of lane I mean (*cough cough*all of us*cough cough*). Herrera, while not perfect, does a remarkable job at sealing those spaces off. When ballcarriers finally get to his space on the pitch, they're met with an absolute brick wall of a CDM. Herrera shuts it down. He marries excellent tackling, great physicality, and good positioning in a quality holding midfield package. His 78 Strength rating does a bit of a disservice to how good he actually is in muscling and hustling in defense.

Going forward, Herrera is a solid distributor, with great base ratings in key stats like Vision and Short Passing. His aerial lobs are so-so and you'll probably want to have him sit on the ball a bit before trying a longer pass, but Herrera is more than competent in transitioning your attack. You will want to make sure you have him set to defensive instructions, though, because he has High/High work-rates. I often found him bombing forward from in deep to attack the box. Under normal circumstances, this isn't an issue, but Herrera's finishing is less than ideal. He has a fairly decent shot power rating but seems to scuff the ball right into the keeper with frustrating regularity. This is the same issue I had with Arslan's card: quality shooting strength, but poor actual finishing. The one positive spin is that he is something of a battering ram when he makes his runs, so if you need to create chaos for a greasy goal, Herrera is your man.

In general, I tend to think of Refresh Herrera as a third CB, but with better distribution ability and stronger linking play. He gives me a level of midfield stability that I've had trouble finding with other cards. I'm not a drop-back/1-depth player, but Herrera's quality reads and midfield enforcement allow me to have fun in the final third. Herrera will still make mistakes and have the occasional physical contest loss that he should win, but that's FIFA. When you consider he's under 40,000 across all platforms, I really don't see how you can complain about one of this game's most well-rounded holding CDMs. Herrera is a beast, and you'd do well to bring him into the fold if you've got a LaLiga squad in tow needing a stout defensive presence. I used a Catalyst for the higher pace, but you can slap on anything from an Engine to an Anchor and get great value either way. Since his Balance and Agility won't be amazing even with an Engine, I opted to sacrifice those on a deeper CDM in favor of increased mobility.

  • Herrera's defensive reads are stellar, especially in supporting his CBs behind him
  • Surprisingly physical and strong, with great tackling ability
  • No slouch going forward, and can handle most passes with ease
  • He's cheap as heck for a league lacking value-priced usable mids
  • On the clunkier side, if you favor super-meta mids (I don't think you're looking for that here)
  • Finishing and shooting can leave some things to be desired
  • Work-rates may be a bit too aggressive for some
