FUTBIN Player Review

FUT Freeze Marquinhos

Back again this week with a look at two of the new FUT Freeze players; starting off with whether or not it is worth completing the 87 rated, CDM Marquinhos SBC.  I can’t lie, I needed this card to be good… or at least not completely terrible, as Marquinhos finally solved a long time issue for me in FIFA 21; how am I going to link Neymar consistently in my squad?  Granted, I have found a variety of ways.  However, none of them have been overly successful or sustainable. Finally! Marquinhos offered the chance to get Neymar into my squad at a price that is not the break the bank equivalent of Mbappé.  For about a month Kante has been my set and forget holding CM in the 4-4-2 formation, and it was about time for a change.  The dream was a replacement that did not fall far behind the standard set by the French workhorse (and I will compare to him a few times just to show the difference)… and thankfully Marquinhos was up to the task and ultimately answered the call.  All weekend Marquinhos patrolled the center of the park, providing cover for my backline in that 4-4-2. Given the job, it was a simple decision to apply the SHADOW chemistry style, and the results were just about perfect.  In the end, Marquinhos was the key link all weekend in the following squad:

Starting Formation:

In-game Formation:

Overall

Rating: 9/10
Pace Rating: 8.5/10
Dribbling Rating: 8/10
Shooting Rating: N/A
Passing Rating: 9.5/10
Physical Rating: 9.5/10
Defending Rating: 9.5/10

If you want to add the shooting into this review then you are getting a card closer to an 8.5/10 overall, but for me, it is a non-issue and certainly not why I brought the Brazilian into my squad this weekend.  However, I will reiterate that the shooting is not ideal with this card and Marquinhos is certainly a nailed on defensive option.  Marquinhos did manage himself a few goals throughout the weekend, five to be exact, and the one was actually a classy touch from a Neymar cross (in fact it broke the game and I received a d/c as the video shows), but overall Marquinhos was not made for goal scoring.  In saying all of that, when it comes to the defensive side of things Marquinhos is a warrior and was a key part of the push to Elite again this weekend.  The tenacity and talent on display this Weekend League were admirable and for a card under 150k I don’t know that I could have ever expected better.

Main Statistic - Defending

Pace Rating: 9.5/10

For a CB turned CDM I don’t know that this should come as any shock… but I will go ahead and say that Marquinhos is a brick wall when defending.  After application of the SHADOW chemistry style, the statistics don’t lie; 98 STANDING TACKLE, 99 SLIDING TACKLE & 97 INTERCEPTIONS all combine into an attack destroyer and matched the best of any CDMs I have used in FIFA 21.  One thing that really stood out was how often Marquinhos was simply in the right place to break up my opponent’s counter-attacks, thus starting my own opportunity to press the issue. The only statistics really keeping me from a 10/10 Defending rating is the 80 AGILITY & 77 BALANCE, which slightly slowed the movement when jockeying opponents.  If Marquinhos could glide around like Kante he truly would be the perfect defensive midfielder… but I can live with a 9.5/10 for sure.

Main Attribute - Size

Height: 183cm | 6’0
Physical Rating: 9.5/10

The biggest advantage Marquinhos has in comparison to Kante and other smaller midfielders is the sheer size of the lad.  Marquinhos simply looks like a dominating figure on the pitch and he has the statistics to back it up.  The Brazilian is already a formidable force in the air and on top of that boasts 91 JUMPING & 90 HEADING ACCURACY to round off his aerial dominance.  Additionally, the 77 STRENGTH on a card this size is incredibly effective and there are not many players capable of getting through this unit.  Yet, there is always a catch with these things and in this case, it cannot be overlooked that Marquinhos is slightly hindered by his size, which certainly affects the agility and balance issues… and also has an influence on the overall Pace that I will address in the Good vs Bad section.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 5/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 4.5/5

150k. Serious, serious value right there.  Obviously from my ratings, this card could use some additional dribbling and certainly shooting to be placed in the elite tier of midfielders.  But just looking at the price tag alone, the attributes Marquinhos does have are unparalleled for that price value.  As long as I can afford to hold onto Neymar, Marquinhos can certainly keep his place in that defensive CM position.

Beyond actually winning headers for once, there was another area I felt Marquinhos truly blew Kante away and that was in the passing department. With 94 SHORT & LONG PASSING, it is no wonder that Marquinhos was pulling the strings as a deep lying midfielder all weekend.  It was incredible how many times my opponent would attempt to apply the press, only to be undone by Marquinhos in one pass into the feet of my attackers.  It is the pace that he hits passes that truly sets him apart from a lot of the midfielders I have tried, he simply zips the ball right into the area you want and immediately cuts apart opponents who are not switched on.  But, Kante is still Kante and there are some areas where he certainly has the edge.  While the size of Marquinhos is a vital asset in the defensive third… every strength can become a weakness at times and in this case the build of the Brazilian causes issues with his pace.  In my mind 88 ACCELERATION & 91 SPRINT SPEED should have felt quicker and at times Marquinhos felt a little on the sluggish side… especially noticeable in poor gameplay. While you can get around the lack of pace with positioning and predicting where your opponent wants to play, it does cause issues when you get it wrong as Marquinhos can be slow in recovery.

Closing Words

If you were waiting for someone to say “complete it” to pull the trigger… I will gladly stand out on a limb and be the one to say it.  This card is a steal for the price tag and I felt Marquinhos deputized for Kante admirably.  The links into Neymar are also a huge bonus and the fact that they can essentially stand alone as a hyperlink without any additional links is fantastic and really opens the door to potential hybrids.  Even better, you don’t feel like you are giving anything up by using him and I believe that is the key.  Obviously, if you are in the realm of endless coins then there are certainly other options, but if you are on a budget… or even looking to free up some coins as I did with Kante… I stand by my 9/10 and truly believe Marquinhos represents a top tier option in the defensive midfield position.  Hope you are staying safe… Cheers for reading.

THE PERFECT NEYMAR LINK
By dschaerie, 11-12-2020

So I immediatly did this Card just because of the neymar link and plus this card is insane.

Ive used this Card in 10 Weekend league matches so far and he has been brilliant.

He is very fast and and feels good on the ball.

His defending is great and eventhough he was pushed off the ball a few times against players with high phisicality it was still good enough.

His passing was just what you needed because he can do good short passes.

The only thing he doesnt have is a shot so I ywould definitly use him as a stay back while attacking midfielder.

he has 3 star weekfoot and skillmoves but both were not a problem for me

overall a great player that i defo recommend.

What a beast!
By ILovePhonzy, 13-12-2020

Finally a good ligue 1 midfielder!

First of all i know this can be kinda annoying but i would just remind you guys that im not english speaking before you roast me.

I completed this guy as soon as he came out for obvious reasons. Not only does he have really good stats he also hyperlinks to the one and only Neymar Jr! The first thing i did when i was done with him was stick him into my squad next to my Neymar and my Bernat and damn did he fit that role. The combination of the 80 speed and the 88 defending is actually discusting, i mean he is literally one of the best midfielders ingame. I am a top div 3/bottom div 4 player and he wrecked my opponents rashfords and manes!

I personaly play him as the central defensive midfielder on stay back in a 433(5) with Ramos and Varane behind him.

I use him with a shadow to jack off that speed just a little bit more but honestly i think an anchor would be more than fine if you want some more strenght. I have previously used both Kante, Seedorf baby, Gullit baby and Khedira flashback but this guy is a whole new level of broken.

The only bad thing i would say is dont use him as a box to box midfielder because if so he will be dead around the 70th minute.

Pace:

His pace is not quite Adama Traore level but its easily enough for a defensive midfielder. He often will save you from sticky situations even against faster attackers.

Shooting:

I mean his shooting is honestly quite dreadfull but thats kinda what you should expect from a guy with 60 shooting. He can sometimes score if he is close enough to the goal but generaly i wouldnt recommend shooting with him.

Passing:

His passing is honestly exceptional for a player at his position. his vision can sometimes be kinda sus but the short- and long passing are amazing. You wont ever be dissapointed with his passing.

Dribbling:

His dribling is ok at most. He is ok at left stick dribling but i would suggest to keep it simple.

Defending:

This is where its his time to shine. Marquinhos never fails a tackle and has amazing postitioning! If you are at least alright at the game he is absolutely incredible. No matter what pass your opponents try to play he's there, try to pass it to the wing? MARQUINHOS. Try to pass it to the striker? MARQUINHOS. Try to pass to the goalkeeper? MARQUINHOOOOS.

Physical:

He is not incredibly strong, but with how this game is its easily enough. In fifa 21 you don't necesairily need that much strenght so he definitely has enough.

TLDR: Absolutely broken and would be half a mil in a better league.

Just look at his stats, with an Anchor hes the perfect defensive CDM...

Very good CB
By SklzFC, 14-12-2020

One of my first reviews so please excuse any errors. So I had some ligue 1 players and was considering getting verratti Freeze and expecting to either pack or buy neymar at a later date, I completed Marquinhos Freeze. I did him for free so I hoped I had not wasted part of my fodder on him and oh boy it was so worth doing. Playing him as a centre back in a 352 (squad is linked) he was very solid. His pace was very good with a shadow, he seemed as fast as Joe Gomez even though I only had him on 8 chem. He had outpaced some very fast players such as adama and some other player with 90+ pace, even though some were later in the game it was still very nice to see. His defending was very good, he rarely placed a foot wrong and his awareness allowed him to be in the right place with lots of plays, his interceptions were great but since he played as a centre back they didn't show as much as they would if I played him as a CDM. In the air he was very solid and his Jumping made up for his height being a little low. His physicals were overall good for a CB, but his stamina would show if he was played as a CDM, his strength was not great nor terrible but tackling made up for anytime where he couldn't outmuscle players. He felt good on the ball but not on the same level as many more agile players but it doesn't matter that much but he was not terrible. his passing was excellent, he was able to play almost perfect passes as he should with his stats, on some pass his vision was not great but he was able to play overtop through balls perfectly, he could have easily had a few assists if I was not trying to learn time finishing. His shooting, one of the few bad things on this card he scored one goal off of a header which is always nice to see but he had a chance inside the six yard box where he hit the post off of a power shot but that was his only chance lime that, but playing him as a stay back CDM or as a CB it doesn't really matter.

beast cb, ok cdm
By Calvera, 12-12-2020

I'm not gonna write long rewiev. I just did it for link neymar. He is very long and quick. I expect more clunky animations but he is not clunky. Good positioning, ok dribbling and passing. Dont try use shoots cuz its a stay back CDM or CB for me. Only problem is stamina. When i play with him in CDM, he gets tired after 70-75 min. In cb position, he will be fine. I play cdm first half and change with a cb after that. I solved this problem like this.

-Height

-Speed

-Agile animations

-Good interceptions

-Neymar perfect link

-Stamina if u play at CDM

Phenomenal CDM
By Quizo101, 12-12-2020

When I first saw this card, I knew I had to complete it and slap him into my team. Where do I begin with this guy?

First of all, his pace is very good for a cdm. With the anchor chemistry style, he'll have no problem keeping up with strikers like Aubameyang, Mbappe, Werner, Martial and so on. While a guy like Rttf Zakaria has better pace, his agility and balance really compensate in this department.

His passing, especially for a cdm, is so good. The combination of 80 vision, 94 short and long passing almost guarantee you won't misplace a pass. I didn't find his 64 curve that big of a problem.

His dribbling is decent enough. The 77 balance and 74 in-game dribbling do affect him, but the reactions, composure and ball control really help him out. Wouldn't recommend dribbling with him unless needed (for example, to create space by dribbling away from the opponent).

While he has 86 attacking positioning and nice shot power, his finishing is terrible and you shouldn't take your chances with him. I feel like most people have their cdm's on stay back while attacking, so this category is irrelevant.

Defending is pure filth, it's the only way I can describe him. He just pockets everybody with ease.

And now comes the problem, his physical. His jumping, stamina and aggression are very good, but his strength isn't. He occasionally gets bodies and I Feel like the anchor is really helping him. I've tried many different cdm's and I found 83-85 strength to be the standard. Guys like Goretzka, Zakaria and Milinkovic-Savic body players with ease.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a great but not so expensive cdm and you can fit him in your team, do it.

FORGET KANTE, GET THIS BEAST
By Cloudland1, 13-12-2020

Forget Kante. Get this beast

This is my first review on here, I just had to...I'm in division 1, Rank 1 and I played 10 games with this guy as my only DM in the 4-1-2-1-2 wide. with Di maria as CAM. He had 5 assists from the DM position cause other than his obvious great defending, this guy's passes are clean and neat to get forward play going. I find his defensive positioning solid, he intercepts any ball close by and easily catches up if on the off chance he ever happens to be left behind. 3-star skill and weak foot but i don't find that to be a problem while using him. he is agile

You'll regret not doing him
By OgbonnaFan79, 13-12-2020

So I am a very lucky person and I managed to pack neymar untrad, so I've been using him for ages. I used bernat and andre to get the 10 chem to him, but when I saw Marquinhos it was an instant buy, and it was a great decision that I've made. I've used him in Div Rivals and friendlies to complete icon swaps and the first thing I'll say is that he never seems to be in the wrong positions, he's never out of his natural LDM and he's always there. He makes great tackles quite a bit and his interceptions are phenomenal I find. He barely misses a pass but on the occasion, he will. His dribbling is a bit meh but it's still not too bad, he does feel good on the ball, and I find him to be quite quick for a CDM. I haven't really gotten to try out his shooting a whole lot yet, but he doesn't really go for headers but will unleash an occasional screamer from outside the box because of his shot power. Overall, Marquinhos is a brilliant card and if you've got Neymar he is a must-have in your team, definitely the best CDM in Ligue 1.

Freddy Krueger in the midfield
By Laister, 17-12-2020

Well, where to start with this card. The first thing I can tell you: I just hope you did him.

We all know how this freeze promo was just bad. By far this guy is the best SBC of this promo.

--> Reasons to do the SBC:

*I think everybody was happy to finally get a strong link to Neymar (not everyone has Mbappé).

*He is such a beast in the midfield as a CDM

*Great stats

*You can play him CDM of CB

*Value for coins.. at this price you won't find a lot of better options

*Easy to link

--> How to play him:

*CDM: slap a shadow on him and play him as a CDM with stay back instruction and cover center. He will be such a beast. Play him nest to a 2nd box to box CM like Renato IF / Wijnaldum this kind of versatile players.

*CB: slap a shadow or anchor on him and play him next to a fast CB like Kounde / Varane.

*Position change: Another option is to switch him in game with Koeman (if you go for him in Icon Swaps) and play him CB and put Koeman as CDM.

--> How he feels in game:

This guy was like Freddy Krueger in the midfield. A real nightmare for your opponent because he is strong, fast and his passing is so good. He reminds me little bit of Witsel Futmas in FIFA 20 with a better stats and much better passing. He is simply so good. His positioning is great if you play him with stay back. Watch him chasing everyone in the pitch.

I strongly recommend you to play him with a 2nd agile and box to box CM / CDM. If he is amazing in defensive area this card have also some weaknesses such as agility and dribbling (of course you are not playing with Gullit). Thats the only weakness I can give to this card as he is insane in game. I hope you did him guys.

Sorry for my English.

Stay safe and enjoy.

Marquinhos the brazilian Vieira
By Gabs445, 13-01-2021

This card is actually insane! He can literally do everything - Defend, Dribble, Pass, Shield the ball, and Shoot. He may have 60 shooting, but that stat is misleading - He is able of scoring bangers from out- and inside the box. He is a rock-solid CM/CDM - reminds me of a better version of Kante. He has very good passing play, which is perfect for people who use fast forwards. His dribbling is decent - not Neymar-esque but it's enough for a CDM. His pace is really good, making him a perfect Box-To-Box midfielder. In my opinion, this guy is definitely a meta player. He could be considered an End-Game card by some people. if you have higher standards you can play him until TOTS.
