Here is a story about a sad individual who nearly lost all hope he had in playing FIFA. All was going bad and he couldn't climb division 1. So he gathered his courage and sent all his fodder into a prime icon pack. He did a roulette and ended upon France, defender, Laurent Blanc. Damn, he was not amused. But oh how wrong this boy was. Little did he know this absolute beast would help him climb from div. 1 to Elite with 8 WINS IN A ROW AND ALL CLEAN SHEETS. He has only played 13 games with him, but he loves him on an emotional level.
Cracking down the negatives
"Not enough pace"
Let me first start off with cracking down the biggest argument against him: "He DoEsNt HaVe EnOuGh PaCe"
This makes absolutely zero sense to me. Why? Because in my experience you can pair op a lower pace CB, let's say above 86 pace with chem styles, with a more rapid CB without any problems. This tactic has worked smooth as butter for me. The only thing is that you have to get the workrates right. In my experience when you have two CB's with both the same workrates, they tend to walk into each other, leaving space either above or below them. This annoyed the hell out of me. But I found my fix. I paired up a med/med with a hi/med. In my case: SD Sule with Laurent Blanc. Sule is quick, very quick. He is a bit more further to the midfielders, not much though but enough to see it when you pay attention. This guy tries to stop all the balls/players trying to get through my defence first. If he gets passed. The last man, Laurent Blanc, is right there. This guy doesn't need pace at that point. Just casually jog back, wait until your opponent makes a mistake and take that ball off him. I have NEVER had him fail yet.
"He is too lanky"
Mr long legs is indeed tall. But it isn't a problem. He has enough balance and agility for it not to be noticeable for me. He moves good enough and that's that.
The positives
Comes in clutch
As stated before, I had troubles climbing div. 1. Well not after I let this man into my team. Yes I have only played 13 matches with him. 5 of those were in WL. The other in Rivals. I won all of the rivals ones back to back. Which got me from low div. 1 to Elite division. I had so much fun with him in the back. Before I had moments where I knew that if my opponent would get close, I would be doomed. Since Laurent is here, I have been safe. He is now my guardian angel. Amen.
A wall
This guy, oh this absolute chad, you just can't pass him. Doesn't matter who you are. Even if the opponent's attacker would have a visa to visit your penalty area. Not happening. This guy keeps all the Mbappe's and FB Neymar's out of your goalie's way. He is always at the right place, at the right time. Without fail, my favourite defender yet this year.
Shooting
No, you do not need this. But I would like to let you all know that he scored a finesse screamer for me whilst I was climbing Div, 1. Out of a corner he stood on 25 yrds, he got the ball and boom. It went past Petr. Who is a hell of a goalie. This goal helped me achieve elite division
Good on the ball
When I took the ball from my opponent in defence, I used to chicken out. I was very afraid of high pressing. Laurent Blanc has shown me the light in those dark times. When he takes the ball, he keeps it. It is HIS ball. If the opponent would want a ball, they would have to go to the side of the pitch and ask the ballboy for one. Because Blanc is absolutely solid for a CB. His dribbling speaks for itself. With such high ball control he would not lose it in a million years.
Passing
When he needs to pass, he passes good. With both 81 short and long passing he can deliver the ball without problem. That's that. No need to explain more of this.
Long story short
To wrap up this review I would encourage you to get him and try him out. For me he is the best defender I have had this year yet. He smashes it out of the park. I have only played 13 games with him, but I have played so many more with other good defenders like RB Rudiger or RTTF Kimpembe. He beats them all. In these 13 small games I knew, he is something else and everyone should use him.
Workrates, High defensive
Aerial prescence
Dribbling for a CB
Pretty good shooting
Penalty god
Here would be pace, but I have not found a lack of it
When I first packed this guy after doing a roulette, I was a little bit disappointed, as on first impressions he didn't look outstanding, and in addition to his price, it just seemed a little bit meh... but boy was I wrong. I decided to give him a go anyway, pairing him next to flashback Varane, and to my surprise, he was a defensive machine! His tackles and defensive awareness felt even better than Varane, and his ability on the ball was immense. His passes were accurate and his ability to dribble out of the back was very helpful in pressing scenarios. The only real negative I felt with this card were that sometimes he would get outpaced by faster attackers, but having Varane beside him helped out at times.
