88 - Winter Wildcards SBC
It seems like in recent years we always get that one truly beefed up special SBC card of Philippe Coutinho. The past two iterations of FIFA we had to wait for its arrival until TOTS. Luckily this time around it crept its way surreptitiously into FIFA and into our hearts during the festive time of Christmas (just like it did in FIFA 19) sporting the RTG-friendly price tag of around 150k. I am not going to lie, I always look forward to this card and always do the SBC on day one no matter the requirements, knowing that with a Philippe Coutinho's card I am always in for a treat.
If I were prompted to think of a fitting analogy for this FIFA 22 card, it might as well be like the Christmas gift you got from your grandma. It also arrived December 25th and your were super excited about it only until you found out that all your cousins had already received that exact same thing, too. Speaking of cousins, Coutinho and Neymar share that Joga Bonito DNA strand which makes them distant cousins, at least in my eyes. Cousins or not, their friendship goes a long way back in history, having first met back in 2006 when they both were a part of Brazil national squad U14. Four years later they also became team-mates in senior category, having made their first appearances for the Seleção in 2010. Long story short, their bond goes way beyond that yellow chemistry link they get in FUT.
So the idea was clear, deploy this hyper-talented creative duo up front in 4-2-2-2 (I switched to 4-2-3-1 at times playing Coutinho at RAM) and hope that this time-tested collaboration will soon bear fruit. While attempting to do so, they faced off against some of the biggest heavyweights of FUT (pointing at you, Patrick Vieira) and they were still able to hold they ground pretty well (L2 + left stick dribbling was the key to success). I did not want to cramp their style with some special tactical instructions so I let these on default, relying on their natural football intelligence to allow them to always pop up at the right place. As expected, Coutinho excelled at close-control dribbling and pulling off skill moves. That being said, I wish his reactions and composure were just a tad higher, but again, this card under 200k was a steal and a very welcome addition to my FUT club.
