I did the objective initially to have him as just a fodder card to use. Later when I sold my RB Davies and RB Rudiger for some nice icon sbc's, I started using him as a left back next to Sol(id) Campbell. Needless to say, I was very surprised by how good Shaw actually turned out to be!

I was initially scared that his weak foot would get in the way. Tricky situations in the back calls for precise passing. Well as it turned out for me, he barely uses his weak foot after all and makes good passes. I have not a single memory of him missing a pass. Very solid! Pleasantly surprised.

His crossing is also pretty high. When you combine this with the early crosser trait you can give some very nice balls to your attackers if you use him moving up the field. I personally don't use him like this. The reason I'll specify later.

Another nice thing about him is that he also does feel good on the ball. This was alsounexpected due to his body type. Of course he isn't the best on the ball, but also absolutely not the worst.

For a free card, he is absolutely great! He does what he needs to do and he does it good. There is only one thing that really makes him less of a player in that position and that is the stocky body type. He is still totally playable, but it does make things difficult. If he is up against a quick winger with a lot of dribbling, he sometimes has trouble tracking back and keeping up with the opponent. This is the reason why I don't let him join the attack from time to time. He just feels slower due to that body type which is very unfortionate! That is by far the only negative I found. This for me is a valid reason to replace him with Tanganga. I use my fullbacks defensively anyway so Tanganga's High/medium workrates are very sweet for me.
