It's been a while since I've done a review but this card has got me in the mood for one.
First off I'll mention I am doing an Arsenal P&P and so have already grabbed FS Smith Rowe, FB Mkhi, UCL Sanchez, Moments Ozil and have used prime RVP and prime Bergkamp in CAM too so I have a good measure of what each of these guys can do and how they fall short.
This card (in my opinion) is by far and a away better than any of the other mentioned cards. Its the multiple parts of the game which he is just so smooth and good at that makes it so enjoyable. So lets break it down by category:
Pace: 5/10 - I think this is neither here nor there, his pace is solid and usable but I wouldn't go throwing him on the wing, someone like Sanchez or Mkhi can do a job there because of their speed but Odegaard is a card for the middle of the park. Having said that, when he matches up against some of the players in the middle of the park, his speed is very good.
Shooting: 8/10 - Pleasantly surprised by this element, I know the stat is high anyway for this but he was able to score a bunch of different types of goals for me and I think that's what I appreciated most about this card, he could break through and finish the 1 on 1s easily and he could also bend in a finesse from distance. Power strikes are a little limited, have to be at the right spot/angle for them but they will go in. His free kicks and set pieces are a joke, so good, I could catch people out on keeper side if they moved their keeper ever so slightly.
Passing: 9/10 - This is the best stat for me. His passing is beautiful but its also the weighting. often you'll have a passing player who will have a great passing stat but still misplace/overhit some passes. None of this with Odegaard, his passing placement and speed is spot on all the time particularly from through balls. The reason this isn't 10 is because I just didn't use his long passing enough and I'm always hesitant to give 10s to any stat. To compare his passing to Ozil, simply put its better.
Dribbling: 7.5/10 - His dribbling is very good and very tight but I did find that even though he has that 5* WF, he does tend to use his left alot (its not a surprise, that's his dominant foot) but it makes the dynamism of his dribbling limited towards that right foot. Still very solid and more important to his pace/movement than his actual pace. He is quick with his dribbling and that makes things tough for your opponent as he can break past lines quickly.
Defending: N/A
Physical: 4/10 - His physicality is decent in terms of stamina, he can run about for 80 minutes absolutely fine but will be tired for those last 10. Aggression is low and he struggles sometimes in those 50/50s that Sanchez might be able to win.
Other: The 5* WF and 5* SM are a massive bonus, the passing is brilliant on the right and the left as is the shooting. Makes him so so dangerous.
One other thing I will mention is that despite how good he is, I do believe (obviously) that there are better alternatives out there and wouldn't be paying the current 600k going rate.
He's better than all the above imo but not that much better. Good card but not good value.
