Player Review

I have been blessed with good pack luck this year, for the first FIFA in what feels like forever I have been happy with my icon packs in addition to getting consistently good FUT Champs rewards. This has led to me having a pretty sick team, so Ronaldo was only ever an option as a super sub. I had used gold Ronaldo in a similar role in January, and being happy with him then I decided to complete this SBC.

For the role of super sub, I would not recommend him. He feels way too slow in those crucial moments when you are behind, especially in extra time, where players like Jota, Reus, and especially Kent or Vini have a way more significant impact than he does. I have found myself bringing him on as a CAM instead of at ST, especially because of his low acceleration with an engine. I have also found him to not be as clinical as I had hoped. Sure, he feels more clinical than someone like Kent for instance, but not so much that it justifies the much slower acceleration. Players like Kent and Vini will always have the jam, that one of their chances will go in eventually. Especially with Kent's more than adequate finishing on his 5-star weak foot, I have found myself bringing him on instead of Ronaldo further into the last weekend league.

As a starter however the story is different. I tried him out for qualifiers, due to the less sweaty environment in comparison to champs, and he felt much better. Whilst he is not the fastest or the most nimble, on 10 chem these attributes of his are adequate. Add to that his finishing, heading ability, and good physicality and he is a great option. Unfortunately, as he does not make my starting squad, these adequate attributes turn borderline unusable off the bench, especially as a lone striker in the 4231 formation.
