An incredibly effective CDM

I wasn't expecting much from this Guardiola card, however I needed an Icon who could play CDM and thought he represented good value compared to the other options. However, I've really enjoyed using him thus far. I've used a fair share of CDM's this year (Kante, Kimmich, Etebo, Sow & Capoue) and Guardiola really holds his own amongst all of those options.

He plays really well in-game. His coverage is excellent and he gives great protection the back four. His defensive stats are spot on, he's a great tackler and he wins the ball most of the time despite his mediocre strength & aggression stats. Guardiola's passing is also superb, as you'd expect given his reputation in real life! Although his 3* WF can lead to some cheap giveaways from time to time.

The only criticism I can level at Guardiola is his dribbling. 74 is quite low for such a crucial stat and it's definitely noticeable in-game. He doesn't feel stiff or sluggish but he can be slow to reach full speed. This is an easy weakness to work with at CDM though, as you can just use his passing to spread possession instead.

I'd highly recommend Guardiola, he has a number of outstanding stats and these really shine through on-game. He's probably not on the same tier as the best CDM's available (Vieira, Essien, Matthaus) but he's far cheaper than those options. 350k is good value for a solid Icon CDM and Guardiola definitely falls into that category.
