FC 24 88 Winter Wildcards Icon Roy Keane Player Review

Well it’s pretty quiet for the second day of 2024, which is nothing to complain about really as it feels a little like a calm-before-the-storm kind of situation as we patiently wait for the next promo to come.

But one thing we did know was coming today was another of the Daily Player SBCs and it is none other than Winter Wildcard Roy Keane. The twist of this card is that he is coming in as a left-back option.

Now, if you thought I was going to be playing Keane in the LB position, you would be sorely mistaken. This man went straight into the midfield. Why? Well because that’s his job. Annoyingly he didn’t have the CDM position so it meant a little jigging around in-game. 

So as mentioned, Keane was moved straight to CDM in-game but he joined the midfield wall that is Gullit and Rice. Between the three of these guys, no player stood a chance at breaking past this wall.

The Chemstyle of choice absolutely had to be the shadow here, despite having 82 pace and 85 defending, for a player that will be a dominating factor ahead of the defenders, these are key stats we want boosting.

Personally I feel like this SBC would have been more fairly priced if it didn’t include the Informs, or at least, not alongside an 86-Rated Squad. The bast version of Keane is currently sitting at 65k (Discard Value) so to me, this SBC should have come in at roughly 100k due to the fact that outside of a Pace boost and a skill move upgrade, this SBC screams mid. Instead it’s coming in at around 175k which may be enough to steer people very clear from completing.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Passing was not something I expected to be my standout stat here but he could pull off through balls so well that mostly lead towards a goal.
+ Physical stats as an overall were what you would expect on a Keane card, he held his own really well and played very aggressively to win the ball back when needed. His stamina was also impressive as the battery never depleted. 
+ Shooting was also something I didn’t expect to be mentioning at all, let alone in a positive matter, but actually when he was rarely in a position to shoot he often didn’t miss. Especially when going for some outside of the box trivelas.
/ Positioning was a little odd, he often pushed up the field a lot and took a while to come back to assist the defence, but he oddly found himself in a great space for the attack.
- Dribbling was something I wasn’t overall pleased with as he felt very chunky on the ball. This being due to his Agility & Balance being on the lower side.

Keane - Cop or Flop?

With this Keane card, you’re getting near enough what you’re expecting. Sure I had some fun pulling off some random trivelas, but he just doesn’t meet the power curve where it matters. The price is what hurts this card the most. It could have been a fun cheap icon that many people would have completed just for the sake of dumping fodder somewhere. But for the price, you can purchase so many better players and get your coins back should you change your mind.

Personally for me, I would suggest to stay clear of this card. With TOTY just around the corner, it’s likely this card will be forgotten about in a matter of weeks and likely, does not see the light of day in your lineups.
