FC 24 93 TOTY Icon Homare Sawa Player Review - Cop or Flop

It’s time to say goodbye to the midfielders and hello to the Team of the Year defenders! As we slowly await the day we can pull the trigger on our packs with the full team being in the pool (That is if you haven’t pulled the trigger too early). But the defenders certainly excite me. Of course being able to pack a VVD to replace the gold version that has been a staple of my squad would be nice. But i’ve gotta say my eyes are all over Frimpong and Karchaoui. They look incredible.

The SBC section though! Of course in typical fashion we don’t have a defender in the SBCs, instead we have an Icon Midfielder and it is none other than Homare Sawa. This card has been given a second playstyle+ of Press Proven and this card just looks perfect. But will it be worth completing?

As I said, A second Playstyle+ has been given to this card but sadly no additional playstyles as the Press Proven has just moved from a normal to gold with no new playstyles to take it’s place. No Skill Move/ Weak Foot boost either but Sawa is still a 4*/4* card so no complaints from me!

For upgrades this card has had a plus two which I feel was a little harsh as with this being a TOTY icon a 3/4 increase would have been fair in my opinion. Plus 1s & 2s across the board with the exception of the Physicals that has received a plus 4.

Sawa slots straight into the midfield team of SBCs past in Flashback Bruno & Icon Dynasty Zinedine Zidane. These three all have such well rounded stats and almost complete each other, making that midfield absolutely solid.

For chemstyle I feel either the Anchor or the Architect are key. Strength just needs that attention, so for this I went with Anchor as I didn’t want to also put too much on a boost in passing where it’s not needed.

Not the cheapest of SBCs coming in at roughly 1.2million coins, but probably what you would expect for this caliber of card. It is a little tough looking at the value of the previous version that is currently coming in at just 400k but the community feedback seems to be that this SBC is well valued, so we’ll roll with it!

How did she perform in-game?

+ Dribbling feels excellent on this card, this helped massively with the Press Proven playstyle, she was able to handle the ball extremely well in high pressure situations which usually resulted in her coming out to setup a goal

+ Passing was by far the best feature on this card, she could find a needle in a haystack.

+ I also really liked the positioning. She plays the box to box role well and was not afraid to put the work in to regain possession.

/ Pace wasn’t amazing on this card as you would expect with a lot of cards being a lot quicker but I did find that she was really good at slowing down play, making quick short tiki taka passes.

- The only thing letting this card down for me was the strength, she was knocked off the ball a lot which is why you either want to use an Anchor or an Architect chemstyle

Homare Sawa - Cop or Flop?

I really enjoyed using this card, she felt incredible in the midfield bar the occasional knock over due to that low strength and being on the shorter side… but not an absolute deal breaker. 1.2 mill I do feel is a little bit pricey for this card and it is worth noting that this particular Icon SBC has only been given 30 days to complete compared to Best’s SBC that had 8 weeks to complete. So that’s something to keep in mind.

But there is a lot of fodder available and with upgrade SBCs released yesterday I have a feeling everyone is going to have an incredible influx on fodder. So I would this is one to slowly grind towards rather than dropping a lot of coins to complete quickly. This is a great card but I do feel it’s more expensive than I feel it’s worth. So as I said, this is probably more one to drip feed fodder into.
