FC 24 Future Stars Emmanuel Petit Player Review

Moving forward into one of the most highly anticipated promos of the year and one that will certainly get highly scrutinized in years to come… where are they now?  This year the Future Stars were of course joined by a twist as ICONs who were once future stars themselves have entered into the mix of available cards.

With the near impossible task of sniping a Future Stars Rodman standing in our way it was the ICONs that lent the inspiration for this weekend's review in French midfielder Emmanuel Petit.  The write up for Petit references his already “stalwart approach” at 19 years of age as he “broke attacks before they even developed.”  It was with this in mind that I jumped at Petit given the slowly declining effectiveness of Ramires in my squad.

Petit would slot in nicely as the holding CM in my 4-3-2-1 formation and the SHADOW Chemistry Style was applied to help in this endeavor.  With the ever increasing power curve it was the hope that Petit could deliver on some rather impressive Base Statistics and produce some midfield destroying performance required in the Weekend League trenches.

Petit proved a not so giant performer, but still snuffed out opponents chances and contributed to the midfield battle in the following squad:

Overall

Rating: 8/10

While it was a shame that Petit was not given the double PlayStyle Plus of other ICONs, the Frenchman did make the absolute most of the ANTICIPATE Plus that he did receive.  The solid build of the card lends itself well to avoiding missed tackles and proved a rather reliable defender.  The one surprise did come in the attacking side of the game where Petit contributed to the goals throughout the review.

Main Statistics – Defending

Defending Rating: 9/10

Pace Rating: 8/10

Physical Rating: 9/10

PlayStyles: Anticipate Plus, Slide Tackle, Relentless, Intercept

Just about every single one of the PlayStyles you would want on a defensive card and the perfect set of defensive statistics to back them up.  The 99 STANDING TACKLE with the ANTICIPATE Plus was just about perfect throughout the review and those jammy bounce backs were generally alleviated.  Similarly, the INTERCEPT PlayStyle was combined with the near perfect 98 INTERCEPTIONS and getting anything through the midfield proved difficult for my opponents.

Of course the defending statistics do not matter if you can not get around the pitch to apply them.  Unfortunately, the 88 ACCELERATION & 91 SPRINT SPEED on Petit felt just behind the current power curve and limited the overall impact that I know Petit would be capable of, if only the card was that little bit quicker.

The 89 STRENGTH however was another positive factor in the tackles won for Petit who generally just bulldozed his way through challenges.  The size of some midfields did cause aerial issues and the 80 JUMPING did not help much.

Value/Coins

Value/Coins: 4/5

The 640k immediately looked like an “I would pay more” sort of review, even just the defensive quality alone looked enough to sell the value.  Again, the lack of Pace and the, soon to be discussed, poor movement on the ball was simply too far behind what is out there for much less in terms of price.

Good vs. Bad

Good vs Bad Rating: 4/5

Despite a general run of the mill performance there were a few areas that Petit contributed way more than I expected.

+ The first category has to be the Shooting, where 3 goals in 5 matches sums up perfectly  the potency Petit can generate from midfield… Most notably in the POWER SHOT PlayStyle that absolutely crushes the ball from distance.  The 91 SHOT POWER & 91 LONG SHOTS combining beautifully to produce a couple of fantastic goals.  Of course the overall Shooting rating is highly impacted by the 72 FINISHING and 3 STAR WEAK FOOT, but it is worth noting that there are goals in this card.

+ The Passing was another contributor to the goals tally and this one was more expected.  The 91 SHORT PASSING & 85 LONG PASSING are healthy numbers, especially when added to the INCISIVE PASS PlayStyle.  Petit was at his best when tackler turned provider and my forwards reaped the rewards of his efforts.

The word I keep coming back to is “unfortunately” and in the end I think it is down to just how much potential is sitting in this card, minus a few substandard categories.

- The lack of Pace didn’t help, but overall this card just feels so heavy on the ball.  The sluggish turns are dangerous after winning tackles and more often than not I tried to move the ball on with the first pass available.  81 AGILITY, 75 BALANCE, & 74 DRIBBLING all foreshadowed this impending doom… But the hope was that there was some hidden ICON magic in Petit’s boots to bridge the gap… There wasn’t.

Closing Words

The Pace and Dribbling really do leave Petit feeling like a way worse card than what is really available if you make the move to bring in the French ICON.  The Defending and Physicality are more than capable of holding down a midfield and the Passing and Shooting brought some unexpected goal contributions that I would say are much improved from my Ramires.  But without being able to get around to make those tackles and the general inability to move the ball really does limit the overall effectiveness of Petit and with that he went back on the market… And I would suggest you all leave him there.

Hoping you are well.  Cheers for reading
