FC 24 92 UT Birthday Socrates Player Review - Cop or Flop

As we celebrate 15 years of Ultimate Team in the EAFC FUT Birthday Promo we take a look to the SBC section for the day and alongside a very nice looking FUT Birthday Coman, we have the doctor himself with a special FUT Birthday Icon version of Socrates. 

This promo seems to be starting with a bang because we have been flodded with content today but this Socrates card looks incredible. An increase in Skill moves as well as rocking two playstyle+s amongst an abundance of upgrades, this card looks promising.

So as mentioned the skill moves have seen an increase here which puts this Socrates card up to 5*/5* for Skill moves and Weak foot. Playstyles have had a shakeup because whilst this card comes with two Playstyle Pluses, the flair playstle+ has now been replaced with a Technical and Incisive Pass playstyle+. For a CAM, you cannot complain with that at all.

Socrates finds himself between Mbappe and Midema ready to assist and abuse that shot power of his in the attacking midfield. For me it’s a slight shame that this card is locked in to only play as a CAM. For squad versatility it isn’t great as it would be nice to maybe be able to play him as a CF or maybe even as a CM. Of course, you can always switch it in-game but those stats suggest to me he’ll be a cracking CAM.

For Chemstyle here it kind of has to be the Engine here. Rounds of the dribbling nicely by putting a much needed boost to the agility and balance whilst also maxing out his passing and giving a nudge to those pace stats. I don’t think any other chemstyle really does this card any justice.

As you would expect with a premium icon sbc, a lot of segments and a hefty price tag on this one. But personally I think it isn’t that bad. Whilst it comes in at roughly 1.6 million coins, this SBC will be easily grindable due to the amount of packs everyone will be opening, helped by the fact that alongside FUT Birthday items being in packs, there is also a bunch of old promo cards in packs as well. So a lot of fodder in packs right now to help with completing this SBC.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Passing by far was the best stat on this card, helped massively by the playstyles but he setup some incredible goals for me.

+ Shooting, specifically the shot power was great as well. You could put next to no power into the shot and he still sends off an absolute rocket.

+ Dribbling was also something that he performed really well, whilst his agility and balance were on the lower side of the stats, his ball control made up for it.

+ His positioning is great as well, he worked well around his fellow attackers to create space and easy goal scoring opportunities

/ Despite being 6’4 and having the Aerial playstyle, I struggled to make much work in the air for this card. I feel the low jumping had a big part to play in that.

Socrates - Cop or Flop?

This card for me feels a little bit like he is on the cusp of being one of those endgame items that will stay in your team for the rest of the game. The reason I feel he isn’t is due to the fact that right now there is a lot of possibilities for the midfield so it’s easy to look elsewhere. But this was an extremely fun card to use and played like an absolute brut in the attacking midfield. He often felt like a third striker for me because the high workrates often sent him far up the pitch with him constantly ready to try for some absolute screamers.

This is absolutely not a cheap SBC so for me, take it slow and see what else is to come before pulling the trigger. This is a great SBC but time is on our side here so we have time to slowly chip away at it. With EA also sharing the upcoming SBC content as well I think the smart move here is to focus on slowly placing fodder into this SBC and completing it when you have made a good dent in the segments. But this card for me is absolutely worth the price tag and one I would recommend trying out!
