There’s plenty to look forward to in TOTW 3, with several positions featuring world-class players. Whether it’s Palmer’s four goals from midfield, Martínez’s brace, or Kim Min Jae’s MOTM performance, the lineup is packed with talent. Meanwhile, some truly remarkable scorelines from the women's game have resulted in four inclusions.
Marcin Bulka - GK - 79 > 82 OVR
Six saves and clean sheet / Nice 0 - Lens 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Just three weeks in, and I expect to see the second Ligue 1 goalkeeper so far. Nice played out a 0-0 draw with Lens, in which both keepers excelled. L'Equipe went on to award Bulka MOTM with an 8/10, likely resulting in his spot in TOTW 3.
Lucas Vázquez - RB - 81 > 84 OVR
Goal and assist / Madrid 3 - Alavés 2 / 8.1 Sofascore Rating
This poses an additional risk with it being a midweek fixture, but with two attacking returns and being from a big side like Madrid, I feel it’s something EA won't overlook. Vázquez’s goal and assist were vital during Madrid’s 3-2 win.
Min Jae Kim - CB - 83 > 85 OVR
MOTM / Munich 1 - Leverkusen 1 / 2 Kicker Rating
With Leverkusen and Munich both in form early on, this was a huge match for both sides. The score ended level at 1-1, which makes the IF decision difficult. However, with Kim Min Jae receiving MOTM and given the limited defensive options, I’m happy to take the punt here.
Achraf Hakimi - RB - 84 > 86 OVR
One assist / PSG 3 - Rennes 1 / 7 L’equipe Rating
I wanted to select Barcola here, but with leaks showing him in RTTK Team 2, it means he would be unavailable for this side. When that happens, EA often still selects a player from that team. In this case, it would be Hakimi, who provided an assist and made L'Equipe's TOTW.
Julie Dufour - LM - 81 > 84 OVR
Two goals, two assists / Paris (W) 8 - Le Havre (W) 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Mateo stole the show once again with four goals and one assist, but since she featured last week, she is unavailable for this selection. Dufour also excelled with two goals and two assists during the 8-0 demolition.
Guro Reiten - CM - 88 > 89 OVR
Two goals / Palace (W) 0 - Chelsea (W) 7 / 8.5 Sofascore Rating
With the first two weeks featuring several high-rated players, I can’t ignore Reiten. The Norwegian scored twice during Chelsea’s demolition of Palace on Friday night. Although there are several central options, a 7-0 win rarely goes unnoticed.
Lindsey Horan - CAM - 86 > 87 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Lyon (W) 6 - Strasbourg (W) 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Horan was on the fringe of making my side last week, but after another top-class performance, I can’t overlook her again. With two goals and an assist during Lyon’s routine 6-0 win, Horan looks set to help continue Lyon’s domination for another season.
Cole Palmer - CAM - 85 > 86 OVR
Four goals / Chelsea 4 - Brighton 2 / 10 Sky Rating
Since moving to Chelsea, Palmer has delivered some magnificent performances, but this might be his best yet. The Englishman scored all four of Chelsea’s goals within a twenty-minute period, including a sublime free-kick. Sky awarded him a perfect 10 match rating.
Ewa Pajor - ST - 87 > 88 OVR
Hat trick / Barcelona (W) 10 - Granada (W) 1 / 9.2 Sofascore Rating
The gap between the elite few and the rest in the women's game continues to be astronomical, as shown by Barcelona’s 10-1 win this weekend. Several players are in line for a spot in TOTW, but Pajor is the safest bet after scoring three of the ten goals.
Serhou Guirassy - ST - 84 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Dortmund 4 - Bochum 2 / 1 Kicker Rating
Guirassy received a hefty +7 upgrade on his base card from last year, and he already looks set for another boost. Scoring twice during Dortmund’s 4-2 win and receiving a perfect 1 match rating from Kicker should be enough for his first IF of the game.
Lautaro Martinez - ST - 89 > 90 OVR
Two goals / Udinese 2 - Inter 3 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
Inter Milan survived a late scare, holding onto three points via a 3-2 away win over Udinese. Martínez scored two of those three goals, making for the ideal link to the recently released POTM Thuram. This card looks dangerously good.
Substitutes
Clinton Mata - CB - 76 > 81 OVR
MOTM / Toulouse 1 - Lyon 2 / 8 L’equipe Rating
With no clean sheet or attacking returns, this is always a bit risky. However, with an 8 rating from L'Equipe, Mata stands out among defenders this week. It could be a great card, especially if EA decides to award him the featured upgrade, which is possible.
Jens Stage - CM - 75 > 81 OVR
Hat trick / Hoffenheim 3 - Bremen 4 / 1 Kicker Rating
With Hoffenheim storming out to a 3-0 lead after only twelve minutes, it looked set to be a long day for the visitors. An inspired comeback occurred though, led by Stage from the center of the park. His three goals completed the turnaround, allowing Bremen to claim all three points.
Dwight McNeil - CAM - 77 > 84 OVR
Two goals / Everton 2 - Palace 1 / 9 Sky Rating
Everton picked up their first win of the season on their sixth attempt, beating the also winless Palace 2-1. McNeil has been a bright spot in this underwhelming Everton side, and his brace secured the three points.
Omar Marmoush - CAM - 79 > 82 OVR
Two goals, two assists / Kiel 2 - Frankfurt 4 / 1 Kicker Rating
Marmoush is currently one of the most in-form players in Europe with six goals and three assists from Frankfurt's opening five fixtures. This has helped Frankfurt to a phenomenal start, currently sitting in second, just one point behind leaders Munich.
Dušan Vlahović - ST - 84 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Genoa 0 - Juventus 3 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
With so many strikers scoring twice, this was a tough decision. I was settled on Serie A getting a second option, and I opted for Vlahović. His brace helped guide Juventus to a 3-0 away win over Genoa.
Jonathan David - ST - 81 > 84 OVR
Hat trick / Le Havre 0 - Lille 3 / 9 L’equipe Rating
David continues his goalscoring prowess for Lille with a hat trick, taking his tally to five for the season. With Mbappé out of the picture, the Ligue 1 Golden Boot is up for grabs. Could David be the one to step up?
Ante Budimir - ST - 78 > 82 OVR
Two goals / Osasuna 4 - Barcelona 2 / 8.4 Sofascor Rating
One of the biggest shocks of the weekend came with Osasuna beating Barcelona, who were seven from seven before this match, 4-2. Budimir scored two of those goals, and while competition is fierce for spots, I can’t ignore this result.
Reserves
Matthieu Udol - LB - 73 > 80 OVR
Two goals, one assist, clean sheet / Metz 6 - Martigues 0 / 9.1 Sofascore Rating
Borja Sainz - LM - 71 > 80 OVR
Hattrick / Derby 2 - Norwich 3 / 9 Sofascore Rating
Marvin Wanitzek - LM - 73 > 80 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Koln 4 - Karlsruhe 4 / 1 Kicker Rating
Patrik Walemark - LM - 71 > 80 OVR
Hat trick / Korona 2 - Lech 3 / 9.1 Sofascore Rating
Fabio Abreu - ST - 73 > 80 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Beijing 8 - Changchun 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
