With the number of high-rated cards in both the Total Rush and Trailblazer promotions, it takes its toll on TOTW, resulting in a few players being ruled out. However, there are still a few players worth packing, with Musiala, Kanté, and McCabe being the standout options.
Sergio Herrera - GK - 79 > 81 OVR
Nine saves and clean sheet / Sociedad 0 - Osasuna 2 / 9.3 Sofascore Rating
Goalkeepers have always been a difficult position to predict, but this season has been on another level. Herrera is my pick this week after he made save after save to keep Osasuna’s clean sheet intact in yet another impressive win.
Katie McCabe - LB - 85 > 86 OVR
Two goals, two assists / Georgia 0 - Ireland 6 / MOTM
Last season, McCabe scored three from LB for Ireland, and her offensive form has continued for her country, with two goals and two assists recorded from the LB position again. Many women’s internationals were played this week, and while I’m unsure which ones will count, the European qualifiers surely must.
Inigo Martinez - CB - 81 > 84 OVR
One assist and clean sheet / Madrid 0 - Barcelona 4 / 7.8 Sofascore Rating
With both Lewandowski and Raphinha included in recent promotions, I would be surprised to see either of them included this week, but I can’t see Barcelona missing out after their historic El Clasico victory. Martínez provided an assist and contributed to the clean sheet in the 4-0 triumph.
Lutsharel Geertruida - RB - 79 > 82 OVR
One goal / Leipzig 3 - Freiburg 1 / 2 Kicker Rating
Defenders were difficult to include this week, so we could easily see a couple of rogue inclusions from EA. Geertruida claimed MOTM in Leipzig’s 3-1 home win after scoring the second of their three goals.
Dodi Lukebakio - RM - 79 > 82 OVR
Two goals / Espanyol 0 - Sevilla 2 / 8 Sofascore Rating
It's been a slow start to the season for Sevilla, who currently sit in midtable, even after this win. Lukebakio scored both their goals in a 2-0 away victory over Espanyol as they look to build on this to gain some traction toward the European positions.
Riqui Puig - CM - 78 > 84 OVR
Two goals, one assist / LA Galaxy 5 - Colorado 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
The first SIF often goes to a rogue player, and I can see Puig being the one to open the account this year. There is now a six-week gap between his first and this one, which has previously been enough. With two goals and one assist during a playoff fixture, the performance is there to deserve it as well.
Ngolo Kante - CDM - 85 > 86 OVR
One goal / Al Riyadh 0 - Al-Ittihad 1 / 8.7 Sofascore Rating
Unlike in previous weeks, there were no obvious inclusions from the Saudi division, but with the league receiving at least one per week, I couldn’t ignore it. There were a couple of options to consider, with one being Kanté. The popular Frenchman scored the only goal of the game as Al-Ittihad made it seven wins from eight.
Ademola Lookman - CAM - 82 > 84 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Atalanta 6 - Verona 1 / 8.5 Gazzetta Rating
One of the easiest selections of the week came with Lookman scoring twice and assisting another during a convincing 6-1 win. The Gazzetta rating topped off the superb performance, with the Nigerian securing one of the highest ratings of the year so far.
Bryan Mbeumo - RM - 80 > 83 OVR
Two goals / Brentford 4 - Ipswich 3 / 8 Sky Rating
Despite scoring from a penalty and a cross, Mbeumo was awarded MOTM in a seven-goal thriller during a PL match, so it would be a surprise if he were omitted. Now on eight goals for the season, Mbeumo is the second-highest scorer in the Prem, so perhaps the IF is a little overdue.
Jamal Musiala - CAM - 87 > 88 OVR
One goal, one assist / Bochum 0 - Munich 5 / 2 Kicker Rating
With next to no big names standing out this week, Musiala must be included for EA to be able to remotely promote this side. The German received MOTM in Munich’s comfortable 5-0 away win, scoring once and assisting another.
Chris Wood - ST - 76 > 84 OVR
Two goals / Leicester 1 - Nottingham Forest 3 / 9 Sky Rating
Both Wood and Forest continued their superb start to the season, with the New Zealand international scoring twice to lead Forest to a 3-1 away win, temporarily taking them to fifth. Quite an achievement. With a serious lack of gold strikers, Wood could go on to be the featured option.
Substitutes
Alistair Johnston - RB - 75 > 81 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Motherwell 0 - Celtic 3 / 9 Sofascore Rating
Johnston was bizarrely snubbed after a goal and an assist a few weeks ago, but he's in with another chance this week. The Scottish defender scored one of Celtic’s three goals in their convincing 3-0 away win. With less defensive competition this week, he surely makes it this time.
Kerem Akturkoglu - CAM - 77 > 81 OVR
Hat trick / Benfica 5 - Rio Ave 0 / 9.9 Sofascore Rating
With Sporting winning their opening nine matches, a significant gap is forming at the top of the table in Portugal. Benfica just have to keep winning now, and a dominant performance this weekend saw them record a 5-0 victory. Akturkoglu scored the first three of those five, making him an easy selection for this side.
Ryan Gauld - LW - 78 > 82 OVR
Hat trick / Vancouver 5 - Portland 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
We have seen EA snub several players with previous promotional inclusions so far, so while Gauld’s total rush inclusion could harm his chances with the gap being big, and the Scotsman putting in one of the best performances of the week, I just can’t ignore him.
Zakaria Aboukhlal - RW - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Montpellier 0 - Toulouse 3 / 8 L’equipe Rating
You only have to look at L’Équipe’s TOTW to see the lack of quality in the division these days, with only a few players a non-Ligue 1 watcher would recognize. I still expect a couple of IFs each week, and it's Aboukhlal who stands out this week, scoring twice and assisting another from RW.
Christos Tzolis - LM - 75 > 81 OVR
One goal, one assist / Brugge 2 - Anderlecht 1 / 8.4 Sofascore Rating
Although Brugge vs. Anderlecht is not the fixture it was five or so years ago, it is still the highest-profile match in the division. Tzolis was named MOTM with a goal and an assist from LM, making him a strong candidate for TOTW 7.
Georges Mikautadze - ST - 77 > 81 OVR
Two goals / Lyon 2 - Auxerre 2 / 7 L’equipe Rating
It’s a rare occurrence for me to opt for a player not making their league's TOTW, but with a severe lack of ST options, I just can’t ignore a brace from a top-five league. Mikautadze scored both of Lyon's goals as they drew 2-2 with Auxerre.
Kenan Yildiz - ST - 70 > 80 OVR
Two goals / Inter 4 - Juventus 4 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
One of the best spectacles of the season from a neutral point of view occurred in Italy this weekend, with Inter and Juventus scoring four each. Yıldız came off the bench to score twice, claiming MOTM in the process. While more than five silver additions are rare, it has happened before.
Reserves
Guro Begsvand - CB - 71 > 80 OVR
Two goals / Albania 0 - Norway 5 / MOTM
David Kristjan Olafsson - LM - 65 > 80 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Cracovia 6 - Motor 2 / 9.8 Sofascore Rating
Julian Justvan - CAM - 73 > 80 OVR
Hat trick / Nurnburg 8 - Regensburg 3 / 1 Kicker Rating
Xherdan Shaqiri - RW - 73 > 80 OVR
One goal, three assists / Winterhur 1 - Basel 6 / 10 Sofascore Rating7
Janner Corozo - CAM - 73 > 80 OVR
Hat trick / Barcelona SC 4 - Delfin 0 / 9.8 Sofascore Rating
