FC 25 Centurions Modric Player Review

The trifecta of Centurion squads officially dropped this weekend in what will certainly go down as the sweatiest Weekend League grind of all time… I don’t think even TOTY can touch what we have all witnessed this weekend and “grind” probably doesn’t do it justice, it was an all out war.  The decision to “gift” every squad two Captain America-esque soldiers amplified every contest and meant making it out with a successful weekend was going to be an uphill climb… We were going to need something special to push the squad over the top. 

The 4-1-2-1-2 has proved to be the best battle plan for me and relies heavily on the TECHNICAL dribbling and quality of NIF Foden.  Knowing that the power curve was going to skyrocket for this weekend I decided to replace the man in the middle with a proven FUT asset… cue the lads from the Hashtag House… “In injury time!!”... Luca Modric. 

The formation was 4-1-2-1-2 like I said and Modric was the obvious CAM upgrade I was looking for.  I can see why other Chemistry Styles would be preferred but for me it was the HUNTER that stood out.  Playing Modric as the SHADOW STRIKER it was “the more offensive the better” in the end for me… the extra bonus of a Role + was not overlooked as well. With everything set to drop in behind enemy (high) lines, the hope rested on Modric unlocking my opponent's defenses all weekend long in the following squad.

I am not sure what the general experience was this weekend, but from what I witnessed, and from the accounts of those I follow, it was an experiment in the human torture threshold.  In the end every goal felt of golden goal significance, while every goal against felt like a dagger to the heart.  With this in mind the 12 goal contributions from Modric in 5 matches felt like a momentous achievement.  Overall Modric can deliver in those close contests when you need a game changer and that is exactly what I needed throughout the weekend.

I realize this is not really a main statistics and more of a main role but it was clear from the off that I had picked the right man for the job and the right area of the pitch to deploy the little magician.  Modric has all of the qualities you need to produce a threat from the middle of the pitch and he displayed those talents numerous times in only 5 brief matches. 

The Pace was a bit of a concern coming into this review and why I opted for the HUNTER Chemistry Style over other options.  Even with the HUNTER there were moments where that little bit of extra Sprint Speed would have come in handy and why I can’t quite call this a 9/10.  The 92 ACCELERATION on the other hand was more than fine and combined well with the EXPLOSIVE AcceleRATE to give a nice pop out of the sprint boosts.

The Dribbling on the other hand was phenomenal and a huge part of what “worked” for my squad this weekend.  Being able to find Modric in space and then beat the first on-rushing defender was key to opening up the spaces to utilize the brilliant passing.  The 4 STAR SKILLS stops me short of perfect 10/10 but everything else from the TECHNICAL Plus to the 94 AGILITY & BALANCE was on point.

The Passing is honestly insane with this card.  There were a couple of statistics that I originally felt could use a small boost and I weighed applying the CATALYST at the beginning, but within one match there was zero thought that any Passing upgrades would be necessary.  With the trio of PlayStyles there isn’t really a pass you are hitting that is not being aided in one way shape or form and you can feel that in game.  Perhaps the CATALYST would have been the icing on the cake, but just over an assist per match is already sweet enough for me.

Value/Coins: 5/5

The fact that this card will likely be sub 500k by the end of the week is insane and when you consider all of the meta Real Madrid players in the game it is likely you can find links to get the timeless Croatian in your squad.  There is the small issue in the Physical department and likewise when Defending, but if you are looking for a perfect link in transition there will not be many better, especially for the price.

The offensive masterclass continues…

+ I was a bit shocked with the finishing quality that Modric displayed this weekend if I am honest.  There was one finesse shot in the box that Modric ballooned over after a nice dribbling sequence (which honestly just about killed me by that point in the weekend) but other than that it was quite a clinical performance.  The 90 FINISHING & 92 SHOT POWER certainly meant that the HUNTER was not the worst choice and the 4 STAR WEAK FOOT proved reliable as well… The base 90 LONG SHOTS even contributed to the goal tally. 

In a sense these are negatives of course, but if you are looking for an out and out CAM with minimal defensive responsibility they are a small inconvenience…

- Defensively this card was not great and while I ask very little of my CAM in terms of tracking in this formation, it would have been nice to see the INTERCEPT work more efficiently when pressing.  In fact Modric won very little and the 63 STRENGTH was not helping matters.  Furthermore if you plan on playing Modric deeper I would imagine the 83 STAMINA is less than ideal late in matches… But it was a non-issue for my style with the CAM.

Closing Words

Fantastic to see an ICON of the game once again feel like an ICON in the game… In the end Modric was put through the ultimate stress test this weekend and certainly came out on top and looked rather shiny despite the blood and sweat that was being spilt on the green battlefield this weekend.  I needed warriors and while Modric was not one to get his hands dirty, he was ruthless with his toolbox of weapons and cut my opponents open for fun throughout the review.  Amidst it all I actually quite enjoyed myself while using this card and was a bright spot in the darkness… A must try!
