FC 25 87 On This Day Carragher Player Review - Cop or Flop

We have yet another “On this Day” themed card released on EA Sports FC 25 today and this time around it is a Hero by the name of Jamie Carragher. A slight twist this time however as this item is a Striker Card? 

So typically the “On this Day” item isn’t always an upgrade of sorts and this one is no exception to that rule. On this 87-rated card we can see a downgrade from his most recent “Prime Hero” item of a -1 however he has been given a big boost to shooting and a small upgrade on his Pace. This card doesn’t look spectacular but could it be a fun item to use?

So this card has of course come with a slightly different playstyle+ in the Powerheader playstyle but sadly has not had any kind of boost to his Skills or Weak Foot. Disclaimer now, this card can still play in the RB/CB/LB positions but for the purpose of this review I will only base this item on playing the striker role, as the card is intended. It’s also worth noting that if you were going to get this card just to play in defence, you’re much better off with the “Prime Hero” version as the card is better built for it. 

For Chemstyle here I would say Engine as I was incredibly keen to boost the dribbling because this stat was my biggest concern on this card. Alternatively, you could just go with a Hunter and go for Pace and Shooting boosts.

Only 4 segments here which is nice with the total cost coming in at around 80k to complete. But to be honest I would be shocked to see this cost much more. I even think the 80k may be quite steep for an item that looks to be more of a novelty card more than anything. 

How did he perform in-game?

+ Strength on this card was the highlight stat as he did a great job at fighting off the opposition. Which in turn allowed him to break through the defense to be one one-on-one on-goal.

+ Positioning was not something we expected to be great but this Carragher item did a great job of moving into space to receive the ball in goal-scoring positions

- Shooting is average at best due to the low finishing. He can put a lot of power on it but that usually meant it would go wide.

- Pace really isn’t ideal here as he was almost guaranteed to be caught up by the opposition.

- Due to the low pace, his dribbling was also not much to chant about as he felt quite sluggish on the ball and couldn’t do much maneuvering around players. So you would need to rely on his strength here.

- Finally, his passing is relatively basic, so you would need to treat him as the target man as outside of short passes, he isn’t very accurate.

Carragher - Cop or Flop?

This card is exactly what you would expect it to be. Nowhere near the meta and just won’t win you games. The idea behind this card is nice but this item looks pretty disastrous from the go. I can see what they’re doing with releasing these fun items but honestly unless you are a Liverpool fan, I don’t think this is getting picked up.

I mentioned this earlier also but despite this card being able to play the defensive positions, it’s actually a worse card than the Prime Hero and maybe even the Base item if you want him to play defense. He has a worse Playstyle+ and the stats just aren’t much better. Not to mention the other two cards cost the same combined as this item does. For me, this is one to avoid. Maybe he fits into an excellent evo down the line but right now, he doesn’t even make the reserves.
