FC 25 89 Flashback Mount Player Review - Cop or Flop

I’ve gotta say, outside of the spectacular evolutions we’ve had for this promo, Future Stars has been quite underwhelming. Which is a shame because in previous years it’s been a very favourable promo. What I did not have on my bingo card however was a Mason Mount special card this year. But today EA have dropped a Flashback Item of Mount as an SBC, so of course I had to pick this card up and see how he performs.

As mentioned there is no other special cards to compare this item to so from the base version this is an overall boost of +11 which in itself is a nice start. He has also been given a playstyle+ in the Incisive Pass+ but he has just been given the one PS+. To go from TOTY items that had three of them to now releasing cards with just one.. It feels quite underwhelming. Of course I wouldn’t expect this card to have been given 3 playstyle pluses but at minimum at this stage of the game we need that secondary PS+ just to keep the card relevant.

As for the actual upgrades themselves, there is massive boosts to Pace, Defending and Physicals of 15-17 boosts to the stats, which is great to see. He has also been given a plethora of Role ++’s in Playmaker and Half Winger for both the CM and CAM position. On top of this he has also been given a +1 to Weak Foot and Skill moves.

For Chemstyle here I was quite torn and realistically it depends if you are going to play him as a high CAM or within the Box-to-Box role. I feel he is much better suited for the latter so in-game this is where he played for me. But I have opted for the Hunter here as I was concerned more so about the Pace. But the Anchor chemstyle is certainly a more suitable option here.

Here are the following segments to unlock the Flashback Mount SBC:

Top Form

TOTW Players: Min 1

Squad Rating: Min 85

# of players in squad: 11

Premier League

# of players from Premier League

Squad Rating: Min 86

# of players in squad: 11

Just the two segments here which I feel is more than fair, however I do feel he has been given a slight Manchester United/ Premier League tax as coming in at just over 100k to complete, I can’t help but feel like this card should have been a little bit cheaper. Perhaps an 84 and an 85 rated squad instead.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Passing on this card is the key stat as this is where he shines in-game. Through balls are incredibly precise and he very often sets up some easily scoreable goals.

+ Positioning on this card also felt good as he put in a shift on the pitch in moving from box-to-box. He was quick to track back when possession was lost and always moving out into space to pickup the ball and press it forward.

/ Pace on this card felt okay and isn’t a problem for a Central midfielder but it wasn’t anything impressive.

/ Dribbling was something I had higher hopes for. He does have the technical playstyle but it just didn’t feel very effective. In general his dribbling felt quite average.

/ Whilst Mount’s shot was quite accurate he seemed to be slow to take the shot off which often lead to the opposition putting a cancel to his goal.

Mount - Cop or Flop?

This Mount item for me feels like something that would have been better suited being released pre-TOTY. He just feels too far below the power curve to even be worth trying out. Overall outside of his passing, he felt quite average. When we’ve come out of being given a free Zidane card, the standard of items released really needs to be higher. Even the base Zidane that was initially given felt better than this item.

For me, unless you’re a United fan, this SBC is one to avoid. Unless he fits an Evo down the line, I wouldn’t expect to be seeing this card in many teams.

Verdict = FLOP
