With the title all but won for Liverpool now, Salah seems likely to headline TOTW 24. Alongside him, we have some more meta options, with an IF for Nico Williams from Athletic Club’s 7-1 win and featured upgrades for both Alonso and Wan-Bissaka.
Vanja Milinkovic Savic - GK - 77 > 85 OVR
Seven saves and penalty save / Torino 2 - Milan 1 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
Considering the squad Milan possess, they continue to significantly underperform. This weekend saw yet another loss for them, with Torino coming out as 2-1 winners. Savić was the main reason for the three points after saving a total of 2.07 expected goals, which included a penalty save.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - RB - 79 > 87 OVR
Assist and clean sheet / Arsenal 0 - West Ham 1 / 8 Sky Rating
West Ham shocked Arsenal, who are all but out of the title race now, having lost to West Ham 1-0. Wan-Bissaka, like numerous other players, has looked like a new player since leaving Manchester. It was another top performance from him this week, supplying the assist for Bowen in the only goal of the game.
Marcos Alonso - CB - 77 > 87 OVR
MOTM / Celta Vigo 1 - Osasuna 0 / 8.7 Sofascore Rating
The only real punt I have taken this week comes with Marcos Alonso. With no offensive contributions, he becomes easy to ignore for EA, but with a very high match rating during Vigo’s 1-0 home win, there is potential for his inclusion, especially with him being a familiar name.
Achraf Hakimi - RB - 84 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Lyon 2 - PSG 3 / 8 L’equipe Rating
While EA have snubbed Hakimi on numerous occasions, after they released a POTM Greenwood, I see no reason why Hakimi can’t now be included. The Moroccan scored twice from RB as PSG scraped a hard-fought 3-2 away win over Lyon. L'Équipe awarded the defender the joint highest rating of the week.
Nico Williams - LM - 85 > 87 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Athletic Club 7 - Real Valladolid 1 / 9.4 Sofascore Rating
The biggest scoreline of the week came as Athletic Club demolished Valladolid 7-1. An IF from the match is inevitable, and while it’s far from guaranteed who it will be, Williams seems to be the likely candidate. Scoring twice and assisting another, he went on to be named MOTM.
Marco Asensio - CAM - 81 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Aston Villa 2 - Chelsea 1 / 9 Sky Rating
Both Asensio and Rashford stood out as Aston Villa came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1, as their top-four hopes continue to diminish. Either of the aforementioned could end up making TOTW, but it’s Asensio, who scored both goals, who I feel is the more likely of the two.
Isco - CAM - 82 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Getafe 1 - Real Betis 2 / 8.7 Sofascore Rating
The Spaniards continue to flow. Isco scored both Real Betis goals as they continued their fine form, beating Getafe 2-1 away from home. The Conference League now looks a real possibility for Betis next season as they sit level on points with Vallecano.
Ademola Lookman - CAM - 82 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Empoli 0 - Atalanta 5 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
With sides at the top dropping points consistently, Atalanta’s run of form puts them strongly in contention for the title. With just one point between the top three, all is to play for heading into the final stages. A 5-0 win saw Lookman score twice to claim MOTM with the joint highest rating of the week in Italy.
Mohamed Salah - RM - 90 > 92 OVR
One goal, one assist / Man City 0 - Liverpool 2 / 9 Sky Rating
Considering Salah only has one IF and we are now at TOTW 24, I can see this performance being enough for his inclusion with the implications of the result. Liverpool went eight points clear at the top of the table with a 2-0 away win over City. Salah was named MOTM after scoring once and assisting the other.
Julian Alvarez - ST - 84 > 88 OVR
Two goals / Valencia 0 - Athletico Madrid 3 / 8.2 Sofascore Rating
Valencia’s relegation threat continues to grow with another loss, this time a somewhat expected one, however, with Atlético Madrid comfortably beating them 3-0. Álvarez scored two of those three and, as a result, looks a strong candidate for his second IF.
Serhou Guirassy - ST - 84 > 88 OVR
Four goals / Dortmund 6 - Union Berlin 0 / 1 Kicker Rating
Thankfully, Groß has a recent Grassroots Greats card, meaning this decision is not as hard, with his four assists being easily ignored. Guirassy scored four of Dortmund’s six goals, making him the easiest selection of the week.
Substitutes
Daniel Munoz - RB - 80 > 85 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Fulham 0 - Palace 2 / 8 Sky Rating
At one point this season, it looked as though Palace were in serious danger of the drop, but performances over the second half have significantly improved. Now sitting up in thirteenth, they can easily say they’re safe. The latest three points came via a 2-0 away win over Fulham, from which Muñoz scored one of the two goals.
Hakon Arnar Haraldsson - LM - 74 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Lille 2 - Monaco 1 / 8 L’equipe Rating
With a competitive reserve section this week, alongside the fact that Haraldsson was one of the best options in France, I can see the Icelandic midfielder being one of the three featured players this week. The talented youngster scored both of Lille’s goals as they recorded a 2-1 win at home to Monaco.
Rafa Silva - CAM - 83 > 86 OVR
One goal, two assists / Eyupspor 1 - Besiktas 3 / 8.9 Sofascore Rating
This was a huge match in the race for the top four, with a 3-1 away win for Beşiktaş seeing them overtake Eyüpspor, taking them into the top four. Rafa Silva was phenomenal throughout, directly involved in all three goals with two assists and a goal.
Brennan Johnson - RW - 78 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Ipswich 1 - Tottenham 4 / 8 Sky Rating
With several January signings and returning players from injury, a strengthened side helped Tottenham hold off an early Ipswich charge. Their quality ended up shining through, with a comfortable 4-1 away win being the final score. Johnson scored two of those four, both assisted by Son, to claim MOTM with an 8/10.
Vicenzo Grifo - LM - 80 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Freiburg 5 - Werder Bremen 0 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
Both Grifo and Doan scored twice during a convincing 5-0 home win over Werder Bremen, and both received a 1.5 from Kicker for doing so. It was the Italian who went on to be named MOTM, however, and thus I would expect it to be Grifo who ends up in EA’s side.
Georginio Wijnaldum - CAM - 78 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Al-Nassr 2 - Al-Ettifaq 3 / 8.3 Sofascore Rating
Al-Nassr’s title hopes are all but over now, having lost again this weekend. Wijnaldum has shown brilliant consistency over the past couple of months and easily should have been included in TOTW on at least two occasions prior to this one. It was another two goals for the Dutchman this time, helping Al-Ettifaq complete the upset.
Efthymios Koulouris - ST - 69 > 86 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Widzew Lodz 0 - Pogon 4 / 9.8 Sofascore Rating
With an IF already to his name, Koulouris makes his way onto the bench. After being directly involved in all four of Pogoń’s goals, I would be shocked if he doesn’t end up making the side on Wednesday.
Reserves
Jubal - CB - 73 > 85 OVR
Two goals and clean sheet / Auxerre 3 - Marseille 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Claude-Maurice - CAM - 74 > 85 OVR
Hat trick / Gladbach 0 - Augsburg 3 / 1 Kicker Rating
Joe Abrigo - CAM - 70 > 85 OVR
Hat trick / Union Espanola 0 - Palestino 3 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Jayden Nelson - RW - 66 > 85 OVR
One goal, three assists / Portland 1 - Vancouver 4 / 9.8 Sofascore Rating
Mikkel Damsgaard - CAM - 73 > 85 OVR
Two assists / Brentford 4 - Leicester 0 / 9 Sky Rating
