PL POTY VVD

Another week of FUT goes by and another special version of Virgil Van Dijk is released into the wild.  Having already taken a look at the TOTY Van Dijk I was not expecting to blow anyone out of the water with this review.  This card is clearly at the highest possible level and does not require my word to confirm the obvious. However, I was interested in answering two important questions; would this card be noticeably better than TOTY Van Dijk?; and would the value for coins category end with a positive result for the Liverpool man mountain?

Final Score

Final Rating: 9.9/10

The fact that Van Dijk would receive the PFA POTY accolades has been set in stone for some time now.  Some small speculation of the potential for Sterling to sneak in and steal the honors existed, but the writing really has been on the wall for some time.  In preparation, I went back and read my review on TOTY Van Dijk and made a note of my rating (9.4/10) and some of the comments on a lack of goals.  I remember thinking this is a great card… but I can live without it.  POTY Van Dijk is on yet another level and matches every CB I have used in any FIFA.  He is incredible and deserves every point of the 9.9 ratings.

Link-ability

Rating: 4.5/5

On a bit of a Liverpool role here in the past month with all of the quality cards being released.  The more quality cards a club owns the easier it is to link them all together.  After Robertson and Alisson receive their TOTS cards I would say all Liverpool players are just about a perfect 5/5 in link-ability, so many options for squads.

End Game Strength & Value/Coins

EGS Rating: 5/5
V/C Rating: 5/5

I don’t have a crystal ball to know what TOTS content will bring for CB options but there is no doubt in my mind that POTY Van Dijk will reign supreme when all is said and done.  I can only guess what the Van Dijk TOTS card will look like for rating but rest assured it will be insane as well.  Just taking one second to look at this card with ANCHOR applied (or just Basic chemistry honestly) and it is easy to see why he is a wall at the back. 86 ACCELERATION & 95 SPRINT SPEED get this colossus in position … and then 99 in EVERY DEFENSIVE CATEGORY takes the wheel and drives your opponent back away from goal.  If anyone does manage to get close to goal VVD’s 99 PHYSICAL (83 STAMINA the one outlier) sends smaller opponents flying, and even larger opponents like FB Ibra could not stand their ground.

Now that FUTBIN has added the amazing SBC price feature for cards it is easy to look at POTY Van Dijk and realize that a million coins are not only reasonable, when you consider the packs you get in return it is an absolute steal.  When this card was first released I had to triple check the requirements to make sure I was not missing something.  The quality and cost of this card have dropped TOTY Van Dijk down to 900k, but I can’t picture anyone wanting to replace this card after completed. Costly, but incredibly effective and worth every hard earned coin.

Uniqueness

Rating: 4/5

Again we go back to the statistics of this card and when you look at the Pace, Defending, and Physicality of this card there is really only one match.  TOTY Ramos is the only option that can go toe to toe with VVD and at 1.6 million coins it highlights the discount value this card is at.  The purple design of the POTY cards is not my favorite but there will not be many and adds to the unique value of this card.  The dynamic image is also quality, but I prefer the in-game images personally.

Good vs. Bad & Closing Words

G/B Rating: 5/5

There is just nothing bad to say about this card in the end, maybe… I fired a few shots way over goal and after seeing Kompany rip the roof off of the goal against Leicester City maybe a screamer or two would put this card in the realm of the Gods.  However, you put a million coins into a defender and you want to be confident that the ball goes in your goal less than it did before.  All Weekend League (when I could actually play) Van Dijk was at work making tackles and catching opponents that I know would have scored on me in the past.  Additionally, it is obvious that at 6’4 (193cm) with 99 JUMPING that you will win a lot of headers with this card.  But it is insane just how dominating POTY VVD is in the air.  While I only scored two goals (both headers), I did not concede a single corner goal this weekend, crosses were dealt with 99% of the time, and any clearance from my opponent went flying back to my midfielders to continue the pressure I had built.  If you are reading this and still can’t pull the trigger, use these last few days to do yourself a favor and jump on this card… you simply won’t regret it.  Cheers for reading.
