TOTS Luka Jovic

After a long weekend of traveling and family events, I returned home Saturday night having already created a squad around Jovic, Kostic and my best ever red pull in Mo Salah.  Coffee ready, quiet house, focused on the grind … nothing could ruin my mood.  Load up Ultimate Team … I forgot to qualify for the Weekend League!  How is that even possible at this stage?  After sitting in darkness for a while looking for people to blame I understood that I only had myself, which is always the worst realization.  With a quality squad ready to go and time on my hands, it was into the Division One Rivals grind for me this weekend … I still can’t believe it.

Final Score

Final Rating: 9.3/10

Luka Jovic is undoubtedly a goal poacher and a good one at that.  What really stood out to me about this card was not the amount of goals or the quality of goals he scored, instead it was the different styles of goals he scored.  His right foot is a thunderbolt and when you have the space to let fly it can rip nets apart.  Luka’s 5 STAR WEAK FOOT leaves a very similar result on the opposite side with just a small downgrade of power, but just as lethal with his accuracy.  6’0 (182cm) with 94 JUMPING (HAWK applied) and 99 HEADING ACCURACY means he scores in the air as well.  This card is a well-rounded goal machine and provides a potent offensive option for any squad.

Link-ability

Rating: 3/5

If you look at my squad this week you will see that this card takes some work to fit in.  I went with the incredibly lame and easy method of grabbing Kostic for the perfect link between the two.  If Kostic had turned out to be an animal at the back than I would have went with a 3.5 or even 4 out of 5 … but in the end, Kostic was about as effective as 84 Robertson, and I had to sub him out in difficult games.  Jovic is a fantastic card, but his links are minimal.

End Game Strength & Value/Coins

EGS Rating: 4/5

V/C Rating: 4.5/5

If this card didn’t have a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT I would be aiming even lower towards a 3 or 3.5, but I think I am justified here.  This card did bang home the goals throughout the weekend, and some FUT Managers are definitely getting even higher goal returns, but in the end, this card is quickly becoming run of the mill.  With each new TOTS, a new selection of super strikers are hitting the market and this card doesn’t quite have it all.

Luka Jovic is not a cheap option at just under a million coins, but he does bring a serious goal threat and that cannot be overlooked.  Perhaps 700k-800k would be the ultimate price point I could get on board with, but close to a million feels like overpaying for value in return.

Uniqueness

Rating: 4/5

If you read my review last week on the Spurs frontman Heung Min Son this will all sound familiar.  For those who did not this is a quick recap.  I said Son should have received a 4/5 in this category but his dynamic image put him over the top.  Jovic does not have this quality but his statistics are definitely quality, and then some.  Similar to Son, Jovic falls into a unique skill set and to echo my words last week … there is only a small hand full of cards with 90+ Pace, Shooting, and Dribbling, with 85+ Physical and Passing… and only one had a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT … and now there are two.

Good vs. Bad & Closing Words

G/B Rating: 4.5/5

When you apply HAWK to Luka Jovic he has just about perfect pace; 97 ACCELERATION & 99 SPRINT SPEED suggest that this card is going to have serious speed.  However, alongside TOTS Salah, POTM Mane, and FB Firmino is was evident in just about every match just how far behind Jovic lags in pace.  Through balls on goal, joining in the attack, getting in behind defense lines … everything felt like it was just a bit too slow.  Again, there were numerous examples in my squad to compare the Serbian too and so I feel it is a legitimate claim.  83 BALANCE and 3 STAR SKILLS are also dark spots in an otherwise full package deal that Jovic brings to any squad.  I have been struggling more and more with which players to buy, which to let go, and who will continue to maintain their position from review to review.  While I will 100% endorse the quality of this card; the pace, balance, slightly high price tag, and difficult links means that I will be moving on from this review and selling Luka Jovic without hesitation.  Cheers for reading.
