TOTW 14 Predictions

After the strength in TOTW 13, this one was always likely to be underwhelming but even by expectations TOTW 14 disappoints. The festive period saw a lot of low scoring matches and from that options were few and far between.

Goalkeeper

Mike Maignan – GK - OVR 82>>84
L’equipe’s ratings were rather random this week with several players you wouldn’t expect being rated highly by them. Maignan is one who despite conceding two goals picked up the joint highest rating of the week with an 8. Considering that Lille won the match 3-2 I actually think that he will still end up making the side.

Defenders

Armando Izzo – CB - OVR 79>>82
Torino has really struggled for points this season and currently sit bottom of the table with just eight points to their name. Their 1-1 draw with Napoli could be a big turning point in their season. Izzo scored Torino’s only goal and was awarded MOTM with a 7.5 from Gazzetta for doing so.

Clement Lenglet – CB - OVR 85>>86
Messi as par usual continues to steal the show for Barcelona with both a goal and an assist to his name but the Argentine needs more than that for me and thus, we look towards the second-best option with Lenglet. The Frenchman scored one of Barcelona’s three goals as they went on to beat Valladolid 3-0 away from home.

Milan Skriniar – CB - OVR 85>>86
There were so many defensive options from Serie A this week and although one of them is likely to miss out I can’t see an obvious one too and thus I have included three CB’s from the division. Skriniar scored the winning goal in Inter’s 2-1 win over Verona and claimed MOTM with a 7/10 for doing so.

Phillip Max – LB - OVR 79>>82
It's rare that the Eredivisie gets more than one player in a single week but with Bundesliga missing this week I am willing to take the punt. Max is the weaker of the two options but with both a goal and an assist during PSV’s convincing win he is among the best defensive performances this week and thus deserves an inclusion.

Midfielders

Hakan Calhanoglu – LW - OVR 79>>82
Theo Hernandez is slowly turning into one of the world's best LB’s with another brilliant display this week for Milan and another crucial goal for them. It is another player I am opting for however with the Frenchman recently featuring. Hakan also played a large role in their 3-2 win, scoring once and assisting the other two.

Casemiro – CM - OVR 89>>90
There is a risk associated with this one due to Casemiro being in the recent freeze promo but with it being a completely different card with a midfielder compared to a defender I don’t see it taking a toll on either card's price. For that reason, I am happy to include the Brazilian for his performance in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Grenada. With Casemiro scoring the opening goal before Benzema sealed the win late on. There is a lack of big names for this side and thus Casemiro offers a realistic route in.

Edin Visca – RM - OVR 83>>85
Usually, I wouldn’t have considered Visca this week, especially after a high-profile snub earlier in the year. But the Bosnian managed to both score and assist on Sunday during a 2-2 draw, allowing Basaksehir to pick up a point. Options were few and far between and thus I can see Visca sneaking his way in.

Yannick Carrasco – LM - OVR 82>>86
I would have personally listed this one as a LWB but seeing as though EA has previously opted for LM under the same formation it makes sense for that to be the case once again. Either way, Atletico Madrid recorded a convincing 2-0 win over the highly performing Real Sociedad with Carrasco providing the assist on both goals. Hermoso is also an option but with a lot of other defensive options alongside the fact Carrasco was MOTM it makes sense to go with the Belgian.

Forwards

Boulaye Dia – ST - OVR 73>>82
Although we had a full set of fixtures played in France the division actually offered very little. I do expect at least three to feature though and thus we have to force some in. Thanks to Dia already picking up an IF earlier in the game he seems very likely for another after a goal and an assist saw him included in L’equipes TOTW.

Luis Muriel – ST - OVR 79>>82
Muriel has been snubbed on a couple of occasions this season with an International break snub before one due to his incoming RTTF item. This time I would be very surprised if he fails to make it though. The Colombian scored both Atlanta’s goals during a 2-2 draw with Gazzetta awarding him MOTM with a 7.5 match rating.

Substitutes

Illan Meslier – GK - OVR 69>>77
There was a lot of hype surrounding Leeds before the season kicked off and that’s now easy to see why with some entertaining high scoring matches going alongside a string of impressive results which look to be enough to have already secured their safety as they look to battle towards the top half of the table. Their most recent result saw them beat struggling Burnley 1-0, but it was their keeper Meslier who won them the match. Being commanding in the box to make five punches which also went alongside six saves to keep the clean sheet intact.

Martin Caceres – CB - OVR 76>81
Although not as good as previous years Caceres is still likely to offer a good Serie A option, especially towards the lower end budget sides with his incoming IF on Wednesday. The Uruguayan defender scored the third and final Fiorentina goal during their shock 3-0 away win over Juventus this weekend. Both Ribery and Caceres were given an 8/10 but as a defender that simply can’t be overlooked.

Petros – CDM - OVR 79>>82
There were multiple worthy players of an IF which came from draws this week, Petros is one of them after he scored both his side's goals in their 2-2 draw. With him being a gold CDM I can’t see him missing out for two goals despite the match ending in a draw.

Bukayo Saka – RM - OVR 75>>81
Arsenal and Arteta will be breathing a sigh of relief after an impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea which they will be hoping can help spearhead their season. Several players stood out, but it was Saka especially who excelled for the Gunners, winning the FK that Xhaka managed to dispatch as well as scoring a long ranged lobbed effort.

Anwar El Ghazi – LM - OVR 75>>81
I was very surprised to see El Ghazi snubbed last week with the Villa man scoring twice. He continued his good form through scoring once in 10-man Villa’s 3-0 win over Villa and although that is less than what he was snubbed for last week there are not many Premier League options at all. We have seen EA go for players which should have been in the week before previously and I feel this is a prime opportunity for them to do so.

Ruben Garcia – ST - OVR 79>>82
Despite the fact that Osasuna is still without a win in eight league fixtures now, their 2-2 draw with Elche could still be enough to see them awarded with an IF. That is after Ruben Garcia was named MOTM for picking up both a goal and an assist. With the exclusion of Bundesliga this week it leaves additional spots open for players just like this one.

Hugo Rodallega – ST - OVR 75>>81
Rodallega is a name I have not heard in quite some time, but the Colombian is still playing his trade, currently over in Turkey for Denizilspor. His brace saw them pick up all three points in their most recent fixture and with a lack of fixtures being played over the festive period that should be enough for his inclusion.

Reserves

Michel Helik – CB - OVR 69>>77
With EA forcing a defensive option into last week's reserves it looks as though they will be consistent with including one, even if better options are out there. Thankfully, there is an easy one for me to pick this time around. Barnsley recorded a 2-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday and central defender, Helik, scored both of their goals.

Timo Kadewere – RW - OVR 74>>80
Kadewere has been one of the standout players so far this season in Ligue 1 with the Lyon winger being one of their main players so far. He has been unfortunate not to yet pick up some special items which can only be down to the fact his base item is silver rather than gold. This week is a prime opportunity for him to get off the mark and if he does, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rack up the IF’s over the coming season.

Sergi Canos – LW - OVR 70>>78
Brentford followed up their cup victory with three points against Cardiff this weekend, to continue their momentum going forward. Canos was the hero scoring all three of their goals from the wing in the 3-2 win away at Cardiff.

Bryan Linssen – ST - OVR 74>>80
Linssen has been scoring for fun the past couple of seasons in the Eredivisie now and the Dutchman added another three goals to his tally this weekend as he scored all three of Feyenoord’s goals in their 3-0 win over Heerenveen and went on to claim POTW with an 8.5

Ibrahima Wadji – ST - OVR 63>>73
Outside of the silver stars promo, there has been very little to get excited by in terms of IF’s but Wadji does offer something else and with the Salvesen link it offers something different for your silver star needs. He gets the nod for a hat trick in Haugesunds 3-1 away win.
