FIFA 23 Premier League Rating Predictions

Next up in the FIFA 23 rating prediction series we have the Premier League. While many have already been covered in the top 20 prediction there are multiple talking points between the remaining options with big movers like De Gea, Mendy and Cancelo. While Sancho is a big faller out of the ranks. Below we have what I feel will be the best 23 players from the Premier League.

23rd. Edouard Mendy, 86 rating (+3), Chelsea

There are a couple of keepers from the Premier League which are in line for a decent upgrade. Arguably the most hard done by in FIFA 22 was Mendy. There were arguments that he should have received keeper of the year but yet he was only 83 rated in the game. I would say he has been much quieter in comparison since then but the Senegalese keeper is still in line for a big upgrade. 86 seems to be what he is going to come in at and thus a plus 3 takes him into the best 23. There are multiple other players I expect to be 86, such as Thiago, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly, Vardy and Laporte.

22nd. Fabinho, 86 rating (0), Liverpool

Fabinho has played a big role in Liverpool's side. I am sure I will rustle some Liverpool fans by not increasing his rating, especially when they see Rodri’s but EA will realistically want to keep a percentage of players around the same ratings so that the game can stay balanced. So, while I agree that you could argue for a Fabinho upgrade I just believe that others deserve it more.

21st. Riyad Mahrez, 86 rating (0), Manchester City

I am sure there will be a lot of people asking for Mahrez to be increased and while I understand that he was impressive last season I just feel that others were better in the same side and I can’t see everyone being upgraded in the City team, despite winning the title. Out of the ones I have not increased Mahrez is the one closest though. He remains at 86 in my honest opinion though.

20th. De Gea, 86 rating (+2), Manchester United

De Gea was shamed last season, with EA dropping the Spaniard down to 84 rating. Just a few seasons after being named in TOTY. I agree that his level has dropped since then but the drastic drop after drastic drop was overkill for sure. I debated going as high as 87 with this one but either way it would be a shock not to see him among the top 20 (Premier League) once ratings drop for the new game.

19th. Rodri, 87 rating (+1), Manchester City

After a dominant two horse race between both Liverpool and the eventual winners, Manchester City there are a lot of players who could be upgraded among the two sides. The first of many I have decided deserve the upgrade is defensive midfielder, Rodri. The Spaniard is a huge reason as to why the offensive players are able to do what they do. Keeping the protection in front of the defence. On top of this, he also managed to bag himself seven goals last season which for a player in his role is ridiculous. He is among the best defensive midfielders in the division and I expect a small upgrade to reflect that.

18th. Bernardo Silva, 87 rating (+1), Manchester City

When it comes to naming the best Manchester City players, Silva is one who goes under the radar when in actual fact he plays a huge role for them every season. A lot of players get rotated in pep’s sides but Silva is one who will play the vast majority of games. He saw his second inclusion into TOTS since joining the champions after managing eight goals and four assists for them last season. I would be very surprised to see Silva remain at an 86 for FIFA 23.

17th. Hugo Lloris, 87 rating (0), Tottenham

Lloris has seemingly now settled at Tottenham and will likely see his career out with them, at least in the top divisions anyway. Now at 35 years of age, it is highly unlikely that we will ever see an increase on his rating going forward. At the same time, I don’t feel he has done anything to justify going the other way and thus I expect the Frenchman to stick where he is for another season at 87.

16th. Raheem Sterling, 87 rating (-1), Chelsea

Sterling had slowly fallen out of favour with Pep’s Manchester City side, becoming somewhat of a rotation player at the club, despite his fantastic statistics with them. More additions to the City squad over the past couple of seasons have now resulted in a transfer to Chelsea for the English international. While I still feel that Sterling is a superb player with his minutes being limited, I do expect a small downgrade to come his way. That being said I wouldn’t be overly surprised to see that revered the following year.

15th. Andrew Robertson, 87 rating (0), Liverpool

The Liverpool defence is well known for containing some of the best defenders in the world and that has been reflected in recent TOTY sides. Robertson has been among the best LBs for a few seasons now and while he has continued to impress, I feel his level has been similar to what it has been over the past couple of seasons and for that reason I would expect 87, which is still very high for a LB, to be the rating he remains at.

14th. Bruno Fernandes, 87 rating (-1), Manchester United

The debut season for Fernandes at United was phenomenal and an upgrade was well deserved as a result. Since Ronaldo has joined the club, his performances have been significantly different however and thus, he is no longer the man to carry the club. I wouldn’t say he has been underwhelming as he is still a world-class player but the previous upgrade was perhaps a little kneejerk from EA. I expect him to be downgraded coming into FIFA 23, although I also think it will be a small one.

13th. Trent Alexander-Arnold, 87 rating (0), Liverpool

I debated giving Trent a slight upgrade but after thinking about it for a while I felt that the 87 rating was fair. Yes, he excels in the Liverpool set up but there are also many flaws to his game, a big reason why he fails to hold down the position at an international level. His defensive ability is not up to standard when compared to many other big names but that is not needed while playing his domestic football for Liverpool and is perhaps overshadowed by moments of magic the Englishman possesses going forward for them.

12th. Joao Cancelo, 88 rating (+2), Manchester City

This one may rustle a lot of feathers with Liverpool fans with my prediction seeing Cancelo leapfrog both Trent and Robertson with a plus 2 to his rating. I think this is more than justified though. The Portuguese defender struggled to break into the side when first joining City from Juventus but when he did, he never looked back. My personal opinion is that he is now the best fullback in the world, offering a great deal going forward while also having a defensive ability, something a lot of wingbacks are now struggling with. A plus 2 for Cancelo may be out there but I think it is a justified one.

11th. Ruben Dias, 88 rating (+1), Manchester City

Since joining the Premier League from Benfica, his talent was quickly made mainstream with the Portuguese defender being largely recognized as one of the best defenders in the world right now. It was another strong season for him, with City’s defensive record being elite once again. Dias plays a huge role in this and despite already being among the highest rated CBs in the game I can see another upgrade coming his way.

10th. Ederson, 89 rating (0), Manchester City

Ederson fell just outside the top 20 for my original prediction and thus is the last rating prediction which you will not already have seen from me. Manchester City’s defence has always been solid since Ederson has been there and thus it’s sometimes difficult to see just how good he really is. When called upon the Brazilian is usually up to the task and is highly rated for good reason. So, although he does have it easy at times he is still among the best keepers in the world.

9th. Alisson, 89 rating (0), Liverpool

There are multiple keepers that I have decided to be harsh with this year but one that avoids the drop is Alisson, the Brazilian won keeper of the year last season which shows the general opinion on him. I do not think he will achieve the same again during FIFA 23 however at the predicted 89 rating it does mean he is the third highest keeper on the game and the best within the Premier League, which I think is fair on evaluation.

8th. Ngolo Kante, 89 rating (-1), Chelsea

Despite finding himself in the TOTY side last season it was a quiet season for both Chelsea and Ngolo Kante during 2021/22 and thus I can see the Frenchman receiving a small upgrade. When you are already rated so highly you need to be excelling to keep that status and although Kante has not been bad, I would not say he has been at the caliber of the elite few, week in week out.

7th. Erling Haaland, 89 rating (+1), Manchester City

Pre-season was not the best for Erling Haaland however after looking dangerous in the community shield, despite not scoring and then finding the net twice on the opening day of the season against West Ham. It looks as though the Norwegian is going to continue where he left off at Dortmund with his goalscoring form. For now, I only expect a small upgrade but should he continue to excel for City this season I would imagine he will be among the highest rated players next year.

6th. Virgil Van Dijk, 89 rating (0), Liverpool

After some time out through injury, everyone was unsure if Van Dijk would be able to reach the level, he was previously at, especially soon after returning but the Dutch defender has proved those doubters wrong and continued to excel at the back. There can be arguments made for an upgrade to VVD but for now, I am predicting he will stay at 89, which is still the highest rated CB in the game.

5th. Cristiano Ronaldo. 90 rating (-1), Manchester United

The Ronaldo predicted downgrade is a rather controversial one and I am fully aware of that too but let’s talk about it another way. Is Ronaldo still a contender for the Ballon D’or? The answer is no, there are multiple players ahead of him this year and he has also struggled to get into TOTY the past couple of times too. That combined with his age and the fact EA likes to start downgrading when it comes towards the end of a player's career makes me think that Ronaldo will be downgraded for FIFA 23. This is not an attack on Ronaldo as I still strongly believe that he is the GOAT. As for ratings in FIFA 23 though the Portuguese icon is now 37 years of age, how many can still say they were 90 rated at that milestone?

4th. Harry Kane, 90 rating (0), Tottenham

Time for the Tottenham Duo now, both were always going to make the top 20 it just depends on whereabouts. Kane once again did exactly what was expected of him, scoring 27 goals in all competitions. With the Englishman likely seeing out his career with Spurs he continues to close in on Shearer’s 260, currently standing at 183 Premier League goals. He will always be recognized as one of the all-time best strikers in the PL and yet he still has multiple seasons to play to further improve that legacy.

3rd. Heung Min Son, 90 rating (+1), Tottenham

Son has seriously impressed in the Premier League for multiple seasons now which has seen his rating continuously increase over the years. We are reaching his peak now but after lifting the golden boot (joint) last season it speaks wonders for the level the Korean is currently at and with Tottenham becoming a real force, pushing towards continuous Champions League positions he just gets more exposure. Once again, I can see an upgrade coming his way with a plus one being the realistic option here

2nd. Mohamed Salah, 91 rating (+2), Liverpool

In terms of the Premier League Salah has been among the best players in it for a few seasons now and I expect that to be shown in his rating with another upgrade coming his way. Many people will argue that Son should be the higher of the two after last season, which I agree that Son was better but these ratings are not based on just one season and what Salah has achieved with Liverpool during his time there will always be remembered in PL history and thus as a collective, I believe that Salah being 91 is justified for the time being

1st. Kevin De Bruyne, 91 rating (0), Manchester City

Yet again I expect the highest Premier League rating to come from KDB, at least the joint highest anyway. The Belgian is simply remarkable at what he does and with the addition of Haaland in the City side, his assist total is only going to continue increasing, with the pair already linking up on the opening day of the season as a sign to come.
