The second league I am covering for the rating predictions is La Liga, it is clear to see the dominance that Real Madrid currently holds over the division and that is reflected in the ratings with upgrade after upgrade coming their way while although Barcelona has signed well both themselves and Atletico have seen mainly downgrades come their way. A lot of regular faces have now dropped out of the top 23 and thus the average rating has also dropped. There are plenty other 85 rated players but I have only included the main ones
22nd. Antonine Griezmann, 85 rating (0), Atletico Madrid
We start the prediction with a very difficult player to predict. Griezmann has flopped since making the move to Barcelona and even his loan spell back at Atletico has not gone as well as when he was with them originally. The Frenchman will now start the season with Atletico and this will probably be his final chance before potential rating plummets. We all know just how good he can be though and that is what saves him for now.
21th. Franck Kessie, 85 rating (+1), Barcelona
Although there are not as many as the Premier League coverage in terms of overlapping players there are still a few. Kessie is the first you will have already seen, via the OTW prediction. It’s the high profile move that pushes the upgrade for me and if he stuck with Milan, I feel that 84 may have been where he stayed.
20th. Koke, 85 rating (0), Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid was rather quiet in general last season so very few of their players stood out and in fact, a fair few are in line for a downgrade. Koke is one who I expect to escape the drop with his 85 rating being pretty fair. Also, the fact he has not budged in 5 FIFA’s now makes me think that EA is more than happy to keep him at 85.
19th. Iago Aspas, 85 rating (+1), Celta Vigo
When it comes to FIFA ratings, Aspas is so underrated for me. He regularly scores 15+ goals despite playing for a lower side in the division. He actually received a downgrade one year too! His age is a big factor however after 24 goal contributions last season I see no reason why EA can’t make him an 85 rated striker, especially after he managed four IF’s and a TOTS card in FIFA 22.
18th. Marcos Llorente, 85 rating (-1), Atletico Madrid
After a season of a lifetime with 12 goals and 11 assists during the 2020/21 campaign Llorente received a deserved upgrade which made him among the elite base cards in FIFA 22. Unfortunately, his card is unlikely to be quite as good after he was unable to replicate the form, he managed in the prior season with only 2 assists to his name and no goals. With the hype around him in the FIFA community, I doubt that EA will destroy his card but a downgrade really should happen here.
17th. Nabil Fekir, 86 rating (+1), Real Betis
Fekir quickly became a fan favourite in the early stages of FUT in 22 with his road to the final card being among the best budget cards in the game. It was not only his cards which impressed though with the Frenchman playing a huge role in a surprising Betis side, who managed to finish in 5th. With Fekir already being well known for what he does the upgrade will inevitably be a minimal one though.
16th. Vinicius Jr, 85 rating (+5), Real Madrid
Everyone knew that Vinicius would break through and develop into a world-class player the question was just when with his early days at Madrid being rather hit and miss. His performances at times last season were ridiculous though and he is more than living up to the hype now. I expect him to be one of the biggest high-profile upgrades with a plus 5, which in terms of top-level football will be within the top 10 for biggest moves.
15th. Jordi Alba, 85 rating (-1), Barcelona
This one will be viewed as harsh with Alba by no means having a bad season but with his age being a big factor now and Alba no longer being viewed as one of the best LBs in the world with several other options storming through, I feel that his rating needs to come in line with those options and a small downgrade is probably the best way to do that.
14th. Mikel Oyarzabal, 86 rating (+1), Real Sociedad
There are a lot of downgrades expected to happen in La Liga this season and that is something I expect to work into Oyarzabal’s favour. I wouldn’t say he has been phenomenal the past season but it was another strong showing for him with nine goals and three assists. Oyarzabal has been floating around the national side which speaks wonders for how far he has come and a small upgrade could be just around the corner.
13th. Gerard Moreno, 86 rating (0), Villarreal
Moreno had a lot of injury issues last season which severely limited his game time and thus only managed 17 appearances in the league. He was nowhere near as prolific as the 2019/20 season but with the issues that are to be expected and with nine goals and three assists his quality still manages to shine through. I think it would be harsh to downgrade him due to injuries and thus I expect him to remain.
12th. Parejo, 86 rating (0), Villarreal
Parejo has been steady with his rating for several seasons now and I wouldn’t expect that to change heading into 23. Anyone that follows the league will understand just how important to both Valencia and now Villarreal on a week-to-week basis. His set piece ability and overall passing talent make him stand out on a regular basis. 86 is fair and I can’t see it changing once again.
11th. David Alaba, 86 rating (+2), Real Madrid
When Alaba moved from midfield back to defence EA decided to reduce his rating which I believe was fair with the question marks around just how good he was in terms of a CB. After a couple of seasons in the position with Madrid, it’s clear to see just how good he really is, excelling at the back despite his height disadvantage to your usual central defender. I debated between a plus one and a plus two but with Madrid being the inform team right now I went for the 2.
10th. Rudiger, 86 rating (+3), Real Madrid
You will have already seen that I have gone for a big upgrade on Rudiger from the OTW prediction and most seem to agree with the viewpoint. Rudiger was criminally underrated by EA in FIFA 22 so when he had another strong season at the back he was always going to be in line for a decent upgrade. You could even argue that the German deserves higher.
9th. Frenkie De Jong, 87 rating (0), Barcelona
There is no guarantee that FDJ will be a Barcelona player come the beginning of the season with Barcelona doing everything they can to reduce their wage bill. With De Jong not wanting a paycheck, as he shouldn’t, there are several issues between player and club despite them saying that they would like to keep the Dutchman. Several sides are interested but for the time being, he is still at Barca. As for his rating, I would expect the same as last season.
8th. Toni Kroos, 88 rating (0), Real Madrid
I almost opted for a –1 with Kroos and with the upcoming talent within the Madrid side I can see his game time being limited during the 2022/23 season. In the end, I opted for the same rating as his 22 card, but I would expect several downgrades coming his way over the next few seasons with the German having likely peaked in his career
7th. Marc Andre ter Stegen, 88 rating (-2), Barcelona
Yet another victim to the fall of the goalkeepers, ter Stegen was simply rated too highly in FIFA 22 for me and thus I am expecting a decent downgrade to come for the German. There are plenty of other keepers in the division let alone the world that I would say are better than him and thus an 88 rating is more reflective of where he stands in the rankings for me.
6th. Luka Modric, 88 rating (+1), Real Madrid
I was a little hesitant with this one due to Modric’s age but seeing as EA has started to become more lenient when it comes to this factor the past couple of years and the fact that Modric looked back at his very best after showing signs of his age catching up to him previously, I can see him getting one final boost before the downgrades inevitably start to appear. The Croatian’s playmaking has been second to none and has shown why he will go down in the history books for more than simply winning a Ballon D’o
5th. Casemiro, 89 rating (0), Real Madrid
Casemiro is one of the best in the world at what he does and is fairly rated in my eyes. Now at 30 years of age, I would expect his rating to slowly start declining in the next couple of seasons but for now, his ability is still right up there and thus I would expect the Brazilian to stay at his current rating of 8
4th. Jan Oblak, 89 rating (-2), Atletico Madrid
There was a lot of hype around Oblak before the beginning of FIFA 22 and thus I feel that EA may have overshot his rating as a result of that. While there is no debating that Oblak is a very good keeper, the rating that was given to him (91) was almost certainly too high. I can only see the Slovenians rating going one way for the next couple of games and that is down. 89 is still too high in my opinion but he has not done anything specifically wrong to completely slaughter his rating.
3rd. Thibaut Courtois, 90 rating (+1), Real Madrid
I have Courtois as the highest rated keep in the game this year which is where I feel he should be after the past 12 months. The Belgian has always been up there but his performances for Madrid during their double winning season should result in EA giving him the crown of the top keeper. I fully expect Courtois to feature in TOTY with his reputation being at an all-time high right now.
2nd. Karim Benzema, 91 rating (+2), Real Madrid
Benzema’s rating has already practically been confirmed via an EA trailer which makes this selection that much easier. 91 is a decent upgrade for the Frenchman but it’s one that’s also justified. Benzema is in with a string shout of lifting the Ballon D’or this year having impressed in both La Liga and the Champions League, helping Madrid to lift the double in the process. Should he continue this form into the World Cup the award will almost be certainly heading his way but even with an average performance there I would expect him to be a front runner.
1st. Robert Lewandowski, 92 rating (0), Barcelona
Having already featured in both my Top 20 and, OTW predictions it will come as no surprise that I have the Polish international top of the list here with a strong rating of 92. A new challenge is obviously what Lewandowski wanted having done everything he possibly could have with Munich in the Bundesliga. Only time will tell if he can replicate his goal scoring record in La Liga. After having seen the numbers that both Messi and Ronaldo were able to record during their time in Spain, I would expect Lewandowski to score a fair amount though.
