After being treated to a couple of strong TOTW’s we head into a significantly weaker one. That being said there are still plenty of usable options with Martinez, Sane and yet another Valverde being the stand-out players.
Kepa Arrizabalaga - GK - 80 > 83 OVR
Seven saves and clean sheet / 2-0 win against Aston Villa / 8 Match Rating
There were several keepers from the Premiership in contention for a TOTW spot but the strongest for me is Kepa. The Spaniard has been kept out the side by Mendy for quite some time but a strong performance reminded Chelsea of his presence, making several saves to be named MOTM despite Mount scoring twice.
Reinildo - LB - 79 > 82 OVR
Clean sheet / 1-0 win against Bilbao / 8.3 Match Rating
It was a difficult week in general to predict, thus several players are likely to get in for less than what is usually required. Reinildo is a perfect example of that. The Atletico defender was named MOTM for his performance against Bilbao as Atletico narrowly took three points.
Joe Gomez - CB - 81 > 84 OVR
Clean sheet / 1-0 win against Man City / 9 Match Rating
Liverpool fans have not had much to cheer about this season but a 1-0 win against City will give them some hope of a resurgence. We will inevitably see an IF from the match with either Alisson or Gomez being the most likely. With Gomez being named MOTM alongside the fact we have several Prem keepers the Englishman seems the most likely.
Silas - RWB - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals, one assist / 4-1 win against Bochum / 1 Match Rating
With Kicker listing Silas as a RWB it is highly probable that his IF will be in that position, hopefully with a secondary position of RM though. Silas was named POTW in Germany after three goal contributions, nailing him on for the IF.
Martin Terrier - LM - 81 > 84 OVR
Two goals / 3-2 win against Lyon / 8 Match Rating
Terrier has already been denied once of an IF this year due to his RTTK card but once again he finds himself in line for the IF. Scoring twice the Frenchman spearheaded his side to a 3-2 win against Lyon.
William Carvalho - CDM - 80 > 83 OVR
Two goals / 3-1 win against Almeria / 8 Match Rating
La Liga’s final fixture on Sunday saw a relatively routine win for Real Betis. Carvalho’s pace lets him down for FIFA with a mere 35 on his base but after scoring twice his IF is on the way.
Leroy Sane - CAM - 84 > 86 OVR
Goal and assist / 5-0 win against Freiburg / 1.5 Match Rating
It was actually Choupo Moting who was named MOTM from the Munich match and it is rare that I will ignore that. EA need some big names in this side though and with Sane claiming the same match rating I feel they will go down that route instead.
Jesper Lindstrom - CAM - 75 > 84 OVR - FEATURED TOTW
One goal / 5-1 win against Leverkusen / 1 Match Rating
Frankfurt inflicted even more damage onto Leverkusen, of whom are seriously struggling this season, with a convincing 5-1 win. Lindstrom was named MOTM with a perfect 1 match rating and with Kamada already receiving an IF it makes sense for it to be Lindstrom this week.
Federico Valverde - RW - 84 > 87 OVR
One goal / 3-1 win against Barcelona / 7.9 Match Rating
I was hesitant on giving out a SIF, especially as this would be Valverde’s fourth special just five weeks in. The El Classico IF is almost guaranteed though and Valverde is by far the best option. What a season the Uruguayan is having.
Lautaro Martinez - ST - 86 > 87 OVR
One goal / 2-0 win against Salernitana / 7.5 Match Rating
Many will be expecting Barella to feature for his two goal contributions and while that is not impossible I feel Martinez is still more likely. After being named MOTM for his goal and gold strikers being few and far between I can see the Argentine featuring despite only scoring once.
Marcus Thuram - ST - 78 > 82 OVR
Two goals / 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg / 1.5 Match Rating
Despite only drawing the match, Thuram’s brace was enough of an impact to be able to be namedin Kicker’s TOTW and with limited options available that simply can’t be ignored while selecting this side.
Substitutes
David Raya - GK - 76 > 81 OVR
Seven saves and clean sheet / 2-0 Win against Brighton / 9 Match Rating
Friday evening saw two overachieving sides in Brighton and Brentford face off. The latter came out on top thanks to an Ivan Toney brace. However, the result may have been significantly different had it not been for Raya making save after save to keep his clean sheet.
Fabian Schar - CB - 77 > 81 OVR
Clean sheet / 0-0 draw with Man United / 8 Match Rating
Yet another defender which could get in via a clean sheet is Fabian Schar. Newcastle played out a bore draw with Manchester United with the Swiss defender being named MOTM.
Myrto Uzuni - LM - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals, one assist / 5-0 win against Gijon / 8.8 Match Rating
Three goal contributions from Uzuni make him a strong candidate with less competition than usual. The fact he comes in as a gold means his chances are greatly increased.
Luiz Gustavo - CDM - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals and one assist / 4-0 win against Al-Fayha / 9.5 Match Rating
It’s been a while since Luiz Gustavo has been mentioned to me and he is far from the FIFA card we once had. Regardless of that his performance this weekend is among the most worthy of an IF.
Dimitri Petratos - ST - 66 > 75 OVR
Hat trick and assist / 5-2 win over Kerala / 9.9 Match Rating
Simply playing the numbers game here. A sixth under 81 is unlikely but I feel I will get more correct by predicting this way. Petratos provided four attacking returns during a convincing win.
Guus Til - ST - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals / 6-1 win against Utrecht / 8.5 Match Rating
The Eredivisie had a few high-scoring matches with PSV not even being the highest-scoring one. They do have the best IF candidates however. Til received the highest match rating of the week and with him being also being gold, he walks into the side.
Jonathan David - ST - 79 > 82 OVR
Two goals / 3-0 win against Strasbourg / 8 Match Rating
Jonathan David has become a popular name among the FIFA community over the past couple of seasons. He looks set to kickstart his FIFA 23 chain of specials this week after his brace helped secure three points for Lille on Friday.
