The race for the World Cup Golden Boot is currently led by Kylian Mbappe but eight players, including Lionel Messi, Bukayo Saka and Portugal’s hat-trick hero, Goncalo Ramos, are giving him chase.
But, which boot and which brand is leading the scoring charts?
Collating data from the World Cup and footballbootsdb.com, we have looked at the boots being worn by the top goal scorers and assist providers at this World Cup.
Nike Has No Match at the Top
When Kylian Mbappe is wearing your brand’s boots, goals are expected to follow, and that definitely has happened for Nike.
Of the 147 goals scored at this World Cup, 79 of them have come from a player wearing Nike boots. That is 53.7 percent of all goals scored so far.
The most prolific model so far has been the Nike Zoom Mercurial Superfly 9, with 18 goals. Unsurprisingly, this is the model of boots that Kylian Mbappe wears, as well as Marcus Rashford.
The second highest-scoring boot model is from Nike as well - the Nike Zoom Mercurial Vapor 15. Players wearing that boot have scored 17 goals.
Adidas is the brand with the second-highest number of goals scored with 33. Leading the line for them is Alvaro Morata, who’s sporting the adidas X Speedportal+.
Puma wearing players have found the net 21 times with the top scoring model for the German brand being the Puma Ultra Ultimate with 15 goals. Olivier Giroud and Japanese sensation Ritsu Doan sport that boot.
Puma’s biggest face, Neymar, meanwhile wears the Future Z 1.4 and has scored one goal so far.
New Balance, meanwhile, is represented on the scoresheet by England stars Bukayo Saka (3 goals) and Raheem Sterling (1 goal) as well as American striker, Timothy Weah (1 goal).
