FIFA 23 Team of the Season Lacazette Player Review

Round 2 of our Ligue 1 TOTS reviews and this time we moved away from the cheap beast option and spent the coins to see if the money would talk through Alexandre Lacazette’s performance this weekend.

With Winter Wildcard Lacazette as our baseline, we dove into this review with some seriously high expectations.  The French striker caused some serious damage earlier in the year and had built the hype that this review could simply take off given the right circumstances.

There is a bit of a tricky choice when it comes to the chemistry style for Lacazette and after serious consideration, I decided the HUNTER offered the boosts that best suited me.  The 99 FINISHING being a key focus and of course the 99 SPRINT SPEED wouldn’t hurt either.

What was immediately clear was that Lacazette would suit up alongside Puskás, leading the line in the 4-2-2-2 formation.
Lacazette came flying out of the gates, filling the net and facilitating the build up play, all weekend long in the following squad:

Overall

If you look at the ratings it really does sum up this card in a lot of ways.  There are a lot of parts of Lacazette’s ability that I absolutely loved and the 10 goals in 7 matches proves that he has the eye for goal as well.  However, there were numerous occasions where that little bit extra, whether it be Pace, Shooting or Passing could have put this card into an entirely different category of player.

Main Statistics – Shooting

Shooting Rating: 9/10

Weak Foot: ★★★★

In the end you can excuse a few misplaced passes or create different other opportunities rather than raw pace, but the one area you need your strikers to be clinical is of course in front of goal.  Again, another nearly moment for this card.

At the outset it was clear that Lacazette was about perfect using his preferred foot just about anywhere inside of the box.  The 99 SHOT POWER & previously mentioned 99 FINISHING were simply too quick and too accurate for the majority of keepers resulting in a nice goal return.

The problems came in two different forms: 1. Lacazette does not have either of the more popular Shooting traits and at times the FINESSE SHOT especially would have come in useful on those long distance finesse efforts.  2.  More importantly the 4 STAR WEAK FOOT on this card is more like a 3.5 and a lot of quality chances ended up painfully wide in crucial situations.

Value/Coins

Value/Coins Rating: 4/5

At this point in the game you can find so many cards that can do exactly what Lacazette can, but for a portion of the price tag.  There are a ton of good qualities with this card and the Dribbling, which we will get into, is off the charts.  But again there are cards that can produce this quality and you do not need to break the bank to bring them in.

Good vs. Bad

Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

The attacking qualities simply stack up with this card and overall Lacazette delivered a quality performance during the review.

+ The Pace is one area that Lacazette can cause opponents issues and it was the 99 ACCELERATION that really delivered as advertised. The spin off to the Dribbling is maybe even more important and really opened up the space for the Frenchman to work his magic.

+ That same Dribbling is the only area I would describe Lacazette as flawless and even without utilizing the 5 STAR SKILLS to their full potential I was able to create a lot with this cards movement.  The 93 AGILITY & 94 BALANCE are quick to respond to inputs and the 95 DRIBBLING keeps the ball touch tight.  The acceleration out of the dribbles rewarded the times you can create the space with the left stick dribbling and overall was fun to use.

+ 99 SHORT PASSING combined with the 98 POSITIONING really put Lacazette in a position to both benefit from the intricate play I was able to produce in tight spaces… but also contribute to the production and quality of the players around him, which was what I loved in game.

You will not find any glaring issues with this card and instead, just a few occasions where that 10/10 rating simply does not apply.

- The 99 SPRINT SPEED with this card is simply not at the top end of cards I have used.  The most tenacious of defenders tracking down Lacazette in situations I would have expected to at least get an effort towards goal.

- The 87 LONG PASSING was not nearly as satisfying as the short passing and overall led to lost possession across the review.

Closing Words

This review really comes down to one thing and that is the price tag.  Basically the opposite of our Fofana Review where you simply can’t say no to the ridiculous card that you get for minimal coins.  With Lacazette there were just too many minor concerns to justify the nearly 2 million coin investment.

Don’t get me wrong this card really is fantastic and the left stick dribbling was fun to operate and maneuver around the pitch.  There are just too many options that can produce similar results for half the price, and in the end would lead me to steer clear of this card moving forward.
Hoping you are well.  Cheers for reading.
