I'm of the opinion, that you spend more on the players that can win you the game. That's my philosophy. I saw Filipe Luis when he around 16k and I didn't the coins to justify making that purchase at the time because as a LB, you would think he's not as influential.
There's also levels to positions and it's usually dictated by price. Marcelo and Alex Sandro are both Grade A left-backs for Brazil but they are usually around 120-170k. I don't have and likely won't ever have the coin flow to get either. So, you go for the next best. Either Alex Telles or Filipe Luis. I opted for Telles because in all honesty, he was cheaper. Hated him and used Adriano/Ismaily. However, came into some coins and despite being 23-24k for a few days, Filipe Luis dropped and I snagged him.
Initial impressions were that despite being high rated, he wasn't up to much. With his head band and his 'I could actually be a manly women' face, his card and the stats on it didn't excite me. But, you have to experiment and minutes into his first game, he burst down the left wing and delivered a fantastic low driven cross assist for Paulinho.
Since that moment, it's been a love affair. It's like in American Pie when Jim is all over Nadia for most of the film and ignores the advances of Michelle. Then in high school teen movie fashion, he blows his load and realises that Michelle is really the only girl for him. Filipe Luis is yet to have a bad game for me and I don't like to review until 9/10 games in.
Consistency. He might not be a match-winner but he's going to give you an 8/10 nearly every game.
Crossing. 86 Crossing for a left back is pretty good and he gets into the right positions to create something.
Stamina. 89 Stamina means he's going to be able to get up and down the pitch, which does balance out his slightly slower running speed.
Aggression. 81 Aggression coupled with the 84 Interceptions means he's determined when you don't have the ball without being psychotic in the tackle.
The headband, not a good look.
Strength. 74 Strength isn't exactly hench. Coming up against some of the stronger players might see him be bullied a little.
Shooting. For those of you that like your full backs to have a go, Filipe Luis isn't going to score many.
