I have tried the two most expensive Serie A goalkeepers (SIF Donnarumma and RTTF Handanovic) and neither came close to validating their price tag (100k plus), A friend recommended Pau Lopez after using his base gold for Icon Swaps so I decided to try his IF especially when I was able to snipe him for 14k.
I play on high depth (b/w 8-10) so I really need a keeper that can make a few big saves when my high line gets broken. Pau Lopez delivered. He makes saves he has no business making and his impact was immediate. I wish I knew the secret sauce that makes keepers tick in FIFA but Lopez definitely has it.
Exceptional in one on one situations
has saved countless tap-ins on cutbacks
kicking is solid
his claiming on crosses hasn't been great but people rarely cross in this FIFA
I'm going to write an honest review, because I think that we should help each other out how much as we can.
I would also like to point out that all players in this game are a subjective matter. Can be good to someone but bad for others.
So, i've tried so many goalkeepers, from Ter Stegen (that was trash for me 2 times I've used him), to Alisson (pretty decent), to Yashin (sadly bad), up till Areola 87 (that was unbelievable good for 100 games up untill FIFA broke him out and started playing as a retarded without hand), so wanted to change it and remember as the other review that Pau Lopez gold card was decent for me at the beggining of this game.
Bought him for 20k and trust me is a steal.
I've used Pau Lopez 85 for this Weekend League, where I feel to be a good player that arrives every f**king times at 22 wins and can't win the 23rd (I really feel blacklisted or scripted from this game.. Never packed anything and start always my Weekend Leagues with 10-1 / 8-1 / 15-2). And my result from this weekend league was again 22 but conceded less goals and Pau Lopez did really an impressive role!
I can really say that he played really well and saved my ass a lot (like did Areola 87 at the beggining). He saves (8 out of 10 times) 1v1 goal situations, even against R9 94!
He's pretty solid with handlings and and jumping and positioning, but yeah he's not Jesus and when this game want to take you the L, Pau Lopez will not clean impossible shots unfortunately.
Look at the rates I gave him by stats, I think they are honest for what I felt. I will keep him obiously, untill he become broken as Areola did.
So let's go with Pros and Cons:
Didn't got bugged and played consistent for 30 matches
Really good in 1v1 situations
Positioning is good
Saved some incredible situations
Feel really solid and give you that feel of "insurance" in the goal
Can make you unbelievable saves and also make you really happy
Reflexes are perfect, like if he was under cocaine or steroids
Handlings are not awesome as we'll except from a real life goalkeepr (but all of them are like this), at least he doesn't make rebounds in your own area
Pretty short and feel small in the goal, but he's good
He doesn't have feet for kicking or hands for passing precisely as Ter Segen does.
Where to start... Back in December, I had a Serie A team and when he was 20k I used totw szceneny. He was so good, didn't concede a goal. But then... I sold him after I did some sbcs and switched my team. All was well until I packed 92 Koulibaly, and I thought; since I have Tomiyasu and headliners smelling why don't I make a hybrid with a Serie A defense? So that's what I did. I used Pau Lopez in goal after trying players like normal Szceny, Donnaruma, and Handanovic. I can not explain how bad they were in-game. So I tried totw strashoska, and he didn't save a single shot despite his stats. I saw Pau Lopez's card and the first thought I had was; Wow those are some balanced stats. So I ended up using him and just wow. He is great he saves most shots, concedes a goal maybe every 10 saves but that's still good. He was just truly outstanding. Even on one on ones, he is good. The only thing is that he may concede one or two sloppy goals but that's all.
I know this contradicts the previous review but I'll make this short for everyone: I packed this man as a red card when he was out. With the new icon swaps, I figured I'd put him in my first owner Serie A squad since he was the highest rated Serie A goalkeeper in my club. What a mistake that was. He is the worst goalkeeper I have ever used. There were some matches I would lose 5-4 or similar where he didn't make a single save. And it's not like they were all good chances. Some of the goals he gave up were routine shots I would expect any decent goalkeeper to save. I couldn't get a win with him because no one can score enough to make up for him unless they're considerably better than their opponent.
I just wanted to write this review to warn anyone who was thinking of using him for the same reasons I did. He's small, has terrible save animations, and cant save a shot across the goal to save his life. Stay away if you value your sanity, the icon swaps grind is bad enough without using this guy. He's going into an sbc ASAP.
As a note, I switched him out for 82 Perin who was considerably better and helped me get the Serie A token quickly.
-I honestly cant think of any other than that it's an 85 rated card with decent links for an sbc.
-Lets in every shot across goal
-Small
-Bad save animations
-May induce severe rage due to his incompetence in goal
