I've been using Hummels for ages now and i think i will be using him long in the future too. Obviously his main problem is gonna be pace and yes, he is very slow BUT in this game i really dont think pace matters all that much. I would replace him for a Ramos, Marquinhos, Koulibaly etc. but i chose to use him over Klostermann or Upamecano and i do not regret it at all, they're incredible options too ofc, especially Klostermann, but i prefer using someone different anyway tbh it makes it more fun, I currently play him aside De Vrij and i would definitely recommend pairing him with a CB with 70+ pace just to help Hummels in counter attack situations. Saying that, his pace hasn't been much of a problem for me, he does get burnt for pace every now and then but the positive things he does so often far outweigh that for me. His defending is so so good, his passing is perfect and his strength is great too, along with his heading and even his agility feels very good in game for some reason, he is ALWAYS in the correct position unless he cant get there due to pace when being countered.

Better Options which have his abilities and lots more pace
I was building a Bundesliga backline and was saving for Klostermann when I packed Hummels. I noticed pace wasn't as important so I gave him a go and he was really good! I decided to keep using him and he is still very good. Even though he isn't the fastest he is still able to defend because of his incredible defensive stats and good strength, his passing also is really good and he can either play long balls from the back or shorter passes for build-up play. He is also surprisingly able to keep up with players who aren't incredibly quick but that is fine if you pair him with a player like Upamacano and/or play a formation with at least 5 defenders(in-game I play 4-1-2-1-2). He is cheap and if you don't like him you have some high rated fodder or you can sell him for presumably a slight loss
With Shadow 3/5 defensive stats are 99
Can strength many players off the ball
Rarely out of position
Reacts quickly
Very good long ball player
Susceptible to long balls, sweaties or lobbed balls
Players with 80+ pace who have a hunter/catalyst/shadow will outpace him
Poor aerial ability
Low stamina so aggressive interceptions and step up won't work for him
At this point(14/10/21) players like Klostermann are now cheaper than him
