Dembélé Review

Round 2 of our mini-striker showdown concludes with a look at Mr. 5 5 himself, Ousmane Dembélé.  I won’t lie, this card is one that immediately caught the eye and for good reason… if you think back to FIFA 21 there was a time in mid-December when 83 NIF Dembélé was still one of my primary super subs and it appears the same could be said for FIFA 22. However, before we start building a hype train momentum that can’t slow down it is important to weigh some of the new experiences in FIFA 22 and determine if this card can enter into OP conversations.  This weekend the FINISHER and HUNTER chemistry styles did the trick as Dembélé lined up alongside Martial in my 4-2-2-2 formation.  I have read a few comments saying that 4-2-2-2 is dead this year which has not been my experience… but I am curious to know what you are all using in-game (what works, what doesn’t) and why you have gone in that direction.  But back on track, Dembélé was the double barrelled weapon all weekend in the following squad:

Starting Formation:

In-game Formation:

Overall

Rating: 8/10
Pace Rating: 8.5/10
Dribbling Rating: 9/10
Shooting Rating: 9/10
Passing Rating: 7/10
Physical Rating: 6/10
Defending Rating: N/A

Certainly a small upgrade on Martial in terms of overall quality, but oddly enough was outperformed by the Manchester man in terms of overall goal contributions.  There is a lot to be said for pure statistics and what they mean when comparing players… but in this case, Dembélé was the standout man across the review… although those lower goal contributions are a key factor in the 8/10 rating.

Main Statistic – Dribbling

Dribbling Rating: 9/10
Physical Rating: 6/10
Skills: ★★★★★
Height: 178cm | 5’10

The FINISHER is of course doing some amazing things to the overall dribbling statistics on this card, not like Dembélé needs it, but I will say he is one of the most fluid players I have used so far in the early stages of FIFA 22.  The 99 AGILITY is amazingly responsive and the left-stick dribbling you can pull off is borderline criminal.  The 85 BALANCE was no joke as well and overall I felt well in control when Dembélé was working his magic on the ball.  The 84 BALL CONTROL & 99 DRIBBLING are just the icing on the cake with this card and truly make the Barcelona man a constant threat.  Then you have the 94 ACCELERATION & 93 SPRINT SPEED that allow you to accelerate quickly out of the touch tight dribbling while maintaining a gap from any would-be chasers.  Maybe the only concern I had is the pitiful 51 STRENGTH that really put this card in the category of soft touch for any defenders that did manage to lay a glove on the Frenchman during this weekend's matches.

Main Attribute - “5★ WEAK FOOT”

Shooting Rating: 9/10
Weak Foot: ★★★★★

I mentioned the finesse shot meta and this card certainly has those finishes in the locker… and in this case, it is on both feet. 90 FINISHING & 93 SHOT POWER just about did the trick across the weekend while the 76 LONG SHOTS just might have been the only thing holding this card back from a real break out.  I will say that overall in the box Dembélé missed more clear cut chances than Martial did and I am not entirely sure if this would be down to finishing or just pure luck in how the ball was falling to both of them.  What I will say is that, while not as many, the goals that Dembélé scored throughout the weekend were well superior to those of Martial… and again on both feet which is key.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 4/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

Hard to really place a claim on the PS4/PS5 price of this card when the lad is currently extinct.  So while it is clear that the Barcelona man remains a popular option, I am not entirely sold that 75k is really great value for this card.  Granted the 5? 5? will be enough to convince most skeptics… but for me, it was the overall wastefulness in the box that made me question his rising price tag.

This is definitely the section that separates Dembélé from Martial in the performance category and would be a large reason for the discrepancies in their overall ratings as well.  While Martial had some truly glaring issues, the same can not really be said for Dembélé.  The strength was abysmal and it must be noted just how easy the Frenchman was to dispossess. However, from that point on the rest of Dembélé’s game was virtually unflappable.  The 78 SHORT PASSING was phenomenal and the one-twos that you can create with the pace and acceleration of Dembélé is insane.  But of course, most of all is the fact that he is able to do it on both feet making him a nightmare to defend at the striker position.

Closing Words

I am not sure that I can sit here and really endorse this card 100%.  Especially when you consider the fact that we are currently unsure of where the price will settle for this card.  To me, 75k eclipses what I would want to pay (40-50k) in relation to a card such as Martial.  With that in mind, I think it remains to be seen the true value of a card such as Dembélé. Is 50k truly the price we will have to pay in the early stages for a card slightly better than the cheaper meta beasts available?  If it is the case then perhaps Dembélé is perfectly priced where he is.  But for me, he just feels like a luxury item for squads with ample coins… and not an out and out meta beast like we were used to in the past.  Let me know how he is performing for you… how are the Div Rivals goal totals looking? Hope all is well.  Cheers for reading.

In my opinion. this game is starting to get boring.

We play with the same avarage player cards week after week, and if you dont have at least 4-5M coins (pay to win) you can not enjoy the game.

It is bad enough that it is a pay to win game, at least give as Diversity In the avarage/cheap players.

So, if you same as me and you fight with Icons teams in div1, there is no replacment for the 5*5 france man.

I literally can not think about better option for the offence that cost less than 800-900K.

The exception is Son/If Son (amazing card) but he is 6 times more expensive than Dembele and I personally prefer striker with 5 skills.

So regarding Dembele.

He is good, somtimes very very good, not amazing but if you know how to attak and how to use him (skills, dribbling, pace) you can destroy defenders, even agains good players.

He is not Neymar, Ronaldo or Mbape but he is the GOAT of the people.

My advice ? If you dont pay to win you must have him !

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe.....

At the start of FIFA 22, I had the fortune, or misfortune (yes that is foreshadowing) of packing Ousmane Dembele. On paper he looks like one of the best gold cards in the game. But (for me at least) he never lived up to the price tag people put on him.

I can honestly say this guy is the most inconsistent player I have used on any FIFA since I started playing FUT in 2017.

Pace

He's rapid and that's it.

Skills

Good, but skills don't really work too well in FIFA 22

Weak foot

Well, I guess one upside is that he's equally as poor on both feet

Shooting

Genuinely terrible. Outside the box is terrible, inside is okay but still bad

Passing

Even with a maestro, he couldn't seem to pass the ball right; on either foot

Ousmane Dembele review
By ASwanFan, 03-10-2021

Ok so when I packed this guy in a gold upgrade the other day I was excited and thought it would be a great super sub, until otw Camavinga came out and realised that I can make him work, originally I had adama traore, comparing this guy to adama, their basically the same except for the huge physicality difference and the 5 5 compared to adama,s 4 2. I personally think dembele is better then adama but you should get adama because of price instead if u packed him untradeable.
