I got lucky and managed to pack myself this card and boy was I surprised when I tried him. I wasn't expecting much but he ended up being unreal for me and I don't even want to sell him even though his price has flew up. in the 15 games I've used him he has been standout defensively and has definitely been my most consistent midfielder, he may not be everyones type of dm as he's not as "meta" as the likes of Renato or toure or marchisio etc but he is definitely comparable to all of them. as a dm I don't think there's many people as good as him in this game just now and I don't think there will be for a while.
If anyone has there eye on him but is unsure about buying him I can't recommend him more. if you want an out and out cdm with good passing and defending with a more than solid physical presence then this is your guy.
Passing is really good whether its close or long range.
Defending is perfect and has 0 flaws for me.
Pace was a lot better than I was expecting.
Was very strong when it came to tackles or 50/50s.
Finishing is poor but that's expected
He is by no means the fastest player (not slow either)
I was lucky enough to pack this card which I was very happy about, as he was one of the new Heroes that I really wanted to try out.
Obviously, his alternate position is where most people are going to use this card which is the CDM position. I wouldn't recommend using him in the CB position mainly due to the height, especially with how many times you run into a team with Haaland.
Mascherano in the defensive midfield position plays absolutely incredible. His combination of pace with his defending and physical give him an edge in performing any defensive duties, partnered with very nice passing stats of 86 Short Pass and 83 Long Pass make him a complete card to hold down the fort as a single DM or in a defensive pairing.
With the current Lengthy meta that is currently being discussed, I feel Mascherano is getting overlooked due to the fact he is 5'9 but you can actually get him to have a Lengthy AcceleRATE style by applying an Anchor can't go wrong with more pace right? But being able to get this AcceleRATE style sets him apart from the likes of Kante who cannot get this with any chem style and cements a place for Mascherano to sit within the current meta of defensive midfielders.
