    Threw away a career as one of the Dominican Republic's all time greats, just to never even be close to the spanish national team. Pretty sad that it ended after a debut goal in 2013...

    I might be wrong, but Mariano could still play for the Dominican Republic since he only announced that he was retiring from national team duties with the DR. There's no word on Mariano filing for a one-time switch to Spain nor has he ever received a call-up to said national team, so he's still eligible for the DR. The problem is that he used one good season with Lyon from 6 years ago to justify his refusal and with the DR which is ridiculous since he's not in his 30s, left Real Madrid and the DR could use his services for next year's Olympics.
