We enter the first international break of the season and as per usual it’s a difficult one to predict. A few big names did stand out though with both Ronaldo and Haaland scoring twice while Horan is a card likely to go under the radar. Mbappe misses out due to his trailblazer card.
Etrit Berisha - GK - 71 > 80 OVR
Seven saves and clean sheet / Albania 3 - Czechia 0 / 8.8 Sofascore Rating
Keepers are usually impossible to predict during an international break and while there is a chance to see EA select a random gold one, Berisha is the player that deserves the spot. In total, he made seven saves to keep his clean sheet during Albania’s shock 3-0 win.
Przemyslaw Frankowski - LWB - 79 > 82 OVR
Assist and clean sheet / Faroe Islands 0 - Poland 2 / 8.1 Sofscore Rating
I struggled to fill the defender spots and had several fringe players to select from. In the end, I opted for Frankowski as he was one of only a few to also be named MOTM. The Polish defender provided one of the two assists and was as solid as needed at the back.
Nicolas Otamendi - CB - 82 > 84 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Argentina 1 - Paraguay 0 / 8.1 Sofascore Rating
Argentina made it three wins from three with a narrow 1-0 win over Paraguay. Central defender, Otamendi scored the only goal of the game and in a week with limited options, it makes him a prime candidate for TOTW 5.
Paulina Krumbiegl - RB - 77 > 81 OVR
Two assists and clean sheet / Nurnberg (W) 0 - Hoffenheim (W) 3 / 8.7 Sofascore Rating
A couple of female defenders have been ignored for similar performances in previous weeks but coming into an international break Krumbeigl is among the best options. It’s a decent-looking card too and with limited special card options at the back, it would be a nice addition.
Dodi Lukebakio - RW - 78 > 84 OVR
Two goals / Austria 2 - Belgium 3 / 9.1 Sofascore Rating
It was this match which likely decided first and second place in group F with both Belgium and Austria dominating the group. It was an enthralling five-goal thriller with Belgium edging the 3-2 win. Lukebakio scored twice and was rightfully named MOTM as a result.
Moises Caicedo - CM - 80 > 83 OVR
Two assists / Bolivia 1 - Ecuador 2 / 8.2 Sofascore Rating
Caicedo’s life at Chelsea has not lived up to the ludicrous price tag so far but his quality is clear to see and he showed that playing for his country this weekend. He is not often within the goals but the Ecuadorian provided the assists on both goals to help them towards a 2-1 win.
Lindsey Horan - CM - 86 > 87 OVR
Hat trick / Lyon (W) 6 - St Etienne (W) 0 / 10 Sofa score Rating
There are some dangerously good women in the French top division and another is set to be on the way. Horan’s inclusion is inevitable after her three goals and with that playstyle plus ability should be an in-demand option.
Domenico Berardi - RW - 85 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Italy 4 - Malta 0 / 8.5 Gazzetta Rating
It was a straightforward win for Italy while hosting Malta on Saturday, scoring four without reply. Berardi scored two of those four and likely receives an IF for doing so. Group C could be decided on Tuesday with Italy facing England however that will probably be too late to decide IFs
Megan Rapinoe - LW - 85 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Chicago Red Stars 0 - OL Reign 3 / 9 Sofascore Rating
There were several female options with two goals this weekend but Rapinoe being a big name likely helps her cause. The 38-year-old helped Reign to a comfortable away win with her brace from the wing.
Cristiano Ronaldo - ST - 86 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Portugal 3 - Slovakia 2 / 8 Sofascore Rating
Ronaldo won’t require as much for his initial IF as he has in previous years with the Portuguese icon receiving a heavy downgrade for FC24. He is still performing at the highest level though with his two goals helping Portugal claim a vital three points over Slovakia.
Erling Haaland - ST - 91 > 92 OVR
Two goals / Cyprus 0 - Norway 4 / 8.3 Sofascore Rating
This TOTW was desperately in need of some big names so while Haaland was a fringe option EA need something to promote the side and that is exactly where Haaland comes in. The Norweigen's international record is phenomenal and another two goals were added to his tally when they travelled to Cyprus.
Substitutes
Robert Skov - LWB - 74 > 80 OVR
Two goals / Denmark 3 - Kazakhstan 1 / 8.5 Sofascore Rating
Although Denmark failed to keep their clean sheet, Skov has done enough to be noticed on attacking returns alone. It’s not often you see a defender scoring twice, let alone at international level. Being silver does hurt him a little but I think he still sneaks onto the bench.
Jesper Karlsson - LM - 77 > 81 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Sweden 3 - Moldova 1 / 9.5 Sofascore Rating
I have limited the friendly additions to this side believing that competitive games should take preference. There are a couple that have sneaked in though, Karlsson being one of them. The Swede was involved in all three of his sides' goals as they recorded a comfortable 3-1 win.
Isaac Hutchinson - LM - 62 > 80 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Walsall 4 - Gillingham 1 / MOTM
EA continue to ignore the lower division but I can only hope that is due to the minimal spots available now with the reduction. That factor is taken away this week and if Hutchinson’s three goals and one assist fails to make it this week, then I will lose all hope of the smaller divisions being recognised going forward.
Harry Wilson - CAM - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals / Wales 2 - Croatia 1 / 8.7 Sofascore Rating
One of the more surprising results of the weekend came with Wales shocking Croatia 2-1. Wilson scored both of those goals which now puts Wales with a chance of qualification as a result, while Croatia will now have a fight on their hands.
Milot Rashica - CF - 76 > 81 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Andorra 0 - Kosovo 3 / 9.8 Sofascore Rating
Kosovo are a dangerous side for the best of sides so a matchup against Andorra would have been viewed as a must-win game. They delivered well with Rashica doing the damage with two goals and an assist.
Georges Mikautadze - ST - 74 > 80 OVR
Four goals / Georgia 8 - Thailand 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Although Mikautadze scored four goals I wouldn't say he is nailed on with the tally being snubbed on two occasions already this season by EA. Georgia hammered Thailand during their friendly match though and with Mikautadze now playing for Ajax I can't see him making the side.
Miguel de la Fuente - ST - 71 > 80 OVR
Hat trick / Leganes 6 - Amorebieta 0 / 9.5 Sofascore Rating
Only a few non-international matches are likely to be included this week but Fuente should be one of them after he helped guide Leganes towards a convincing 6-0 win.
