Rivalry performances stand out for TOTW 7 with both Bellingham, Haaland and Lozano deciding their retrospective derbies. Outside of that, we see five contributions from LB and more Bundesliga options in Sane and Wirtz.
Oliver Baumann - GK - 80 > 83 OVR
Eight saves and penalty save / Stuttgart 2 - Hoffenheim 3 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
This was the first week since the start of FC 24 that I debated the keeper position. We are yet to incorrectly predict the starting goalkeeper so hopefully that streak will continue with Baumann. Despite conceding twice his heroics ensured Hoffenheim picked up all three points.
Katie McCabe - LB - 85 > 86 OVR
Three goals, two assists / Ireland (W) 5 - Albania (W) 1 / MOTM
This is an easy one to miss so hopefully it is not overlooked by EA as McCabe put in the best performance of the week. Scoring three times and assisting another two from LB. In my 10 or so years of doing this, it’s something I have never seen before.
Facundo Medina - CB - 80 > 83 OVR
Goal and clen sheet / Lens 4 - Nantes 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Lens will feature in TOTW 7 it’s just a question of Medina or Sotoca. I have opted for Medina with defensive options being few and far between while offensive have numerous hat tricks. Both received an 8/10 from L’equipe and Medina is the more desirable.
Alessandro Buongiorno - CB - 77 > 81 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Leece 0 - Torino 1 / 7 Gazzetta Rating
Gazzetta’s harsh match ratings often make it difficult for defenders to make TOTW but after scoring the only goal of the game Buongiorno stands a decent chance of doing just that.
Hirving Lozano - LM - 81 > 84 OVR
Hat trick / PSV 5 - Ajax 2 / 9 VI Rating
Things keep getting worse for Ajax who sit in the relegation zone as things stand. A heavy loss in their rivalry with PSV won’t help the fans who are already in uproar. Lozano controlled the match throughout, scoring three times to claim a huge 9/10 from VI.
Jude Bellingham - CAM - 86 > 88 OVR
Two goals / Barcelona 1 - Real Madrid 2 / 8.1 Sofascore Rating
Just when you think Bellingham can’t impress even more than he already is he goes and scores a 30-yard screamer and a last-minute winner to help decide the El Classico. A couple of early special cards could make it difficult but under the circumstances can you leave him out?
Dominik Szoboszlai - CM - 82 > 84 OVR
Two assists / Liverpool 3 - Nottingham Forest 0 / 9 Sky Rating
Liverpool look back to competing in the Premier League after a disappointing 2022/23 campaign. The Reds now sit just three points off league leaders Tottenham after a convincing win over Forest. Szoboszlai stood out after providing two assists.
Leroy Sane - LM - 84> 86 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Munich 8 - Darmstadt 0 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
Many will ask where is Harry Kane? The Englishman featured in TOTW 4 and a recent promotion. That is enough for me to snub his SIF and instead opt for another deserving candidate in Sane. The German was involved in three of eight Munich goals as a second-half demolition occurred.
Florian Wirtz - CAM - 85 > 86 OVR
One goal, one assist / Leverkusen 2 - Freiburg 1 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
Leverkusen continue to fly high and look like serious title contenders this season. It was Wirtz’s turn to impress both scoring and assisting once. The Leverkusen links continue to grow with Frimpong, Grimaldo and now Wirtz all looking like very usable IF’s.
Erling Haaland - ST - 91 > 92 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Man United 0 - Man City 3 / 8 Sky Rating
The gap between the two Manchester clubs has been clear for quite some time now with Manchester United struggling since the Fergie era. Haaland came to life for the fixture, scoring twice and assisting another. Bernardo was also brilliant but I can’t see Haaland not picking up the IF.
Eddie Nketiah - ST - 75 > 84 OVR
Hat trick / Arsenal 5 - Sheffield United 0 / 9 Sky Rating
What a performance it was by Nketiah this weekend. The English striker continues to grow as a player and his hat trick on Saturday shows just how far he has come. Sheffield United were hapless which resulted in a convincing 5-0 win for Arsenal.
Substitutes
Davy Roef - GK - 71 > 80 OVR
Two penalty saves / Gent 3 - Liege 1 / 9.1 Sofascore Rating
It is often difficult for non-gold keepers to be selected for TOTW and that is made even harder now that we are down to 18 slots. Roef could be an exception though after making two penalty saves this weekend.
Xavi Simons - CAM - 79 > 82 OVR
Two assists / Leipzig 6 - Koln 0 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
Life at Leipzig has started fantastically for Simons who continues to impress in his early years. The Dutchman provided two assists this weekend during a convincing 6-0 win for RBL. Kicker awarded him a strong match rating which should see him included this week.
Anders Dreyer - RW - 74 > 80 OVR
Hat trick / Anderlecht 5 - Leuven 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Anderlecht kept the early pressure on USG with a comfortable 5-1 home win over Leuven. Dreyer claimed the headlines, scoring three of those five and making TOTW with ease as a result.
Daniel James - RM - 75 > 81 OVR
Two goals / Leeds 4 - Huddersfield 1 / 8.4 Sofascore Rating
We really should be looking at a Summerville TOTW after two goals and two assists in this match but with EA opting for the Dutchman last week he can’t feature again. We then go to the next best option with James, who scored twice. EA loves including a Championship option so I see no reason why it won't happen again.
Bruno Fornaroli - ST - 68 > 80 OVR
Four goals / Melbourne Victory 5 - Newcastle Jets 3 / 10 Sofascore Rating
It’s yet to be seen if EA are willing to give the A-League IF’s this season with several other divisions being ignored. There is no better way to test it than with Fornaroli’s four goals though.
Edin Dzeko - ST - 83 > 85 OVR
Hat trick / Pendikspor 0 - Fenerbahce 5 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Dzeko is one of the most underrated strikers of the past decade. The Bosnian has scored goals wherever he has been and in multiple different divisions. His latest performance saw him find the net three times as Fenerbahce cruised to a 5-0 win.
Leonardo Pavoletti - ST - 70 > 80 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Cagliari 4 - Frosinone 3 / 8.5 Gazzetta Rating
Cagliari looked a beaten side as they trailed 3-0 deep into the second half. The decision to bring Pavoletti on resulted in one of the best comebacks you will see all season. The Italian provided an assist before then scoring in both the 94th and 97th minute to see Cagliari steal all three points.
