TOTW 13 showcases a series of upsets with major clubs such as Man City, Arsenal, Munich and Barcelona all falling to defeat. This does reduce the pool of top options to select from thus we see a rather mediocre side headlined by Son.
Lukas Hradecky - GK - 81 > 85 OVR
Nine saves / Stuttgart 1 - Leverkusen 1 / 2 Kicker Rating
Keeper options were few and far between with the two best candidates both coming during 1-1 draws with Hradecky and Trafford. The former being a gold will inevitably end up being the deciding factor thus I expect Hradecky to feature.
Chancel Mbemba - CB - 80 > 84 OVR
Goal and assist / Lorient 2 - Marseille 4 / 7 L’equipe Rating
Aubameyang was fantastic this week but with his recent inclusion in EA’s Radioactive promotion, I feel he gets snubbed. Although Mbemba was not named MOTM his performance from the back could still justify a position with both a goal and an assist playing a big role in Marseille’s three points.
Federico Gatti - CB - 76 > 86 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Juventus 1 - Napoli 0 / 7 Gazzetta Rating
There have been a couple of occasions that Gatti has been snubbed of an IF this year already. Considering the magnitude of the fixture this time around I would be surprised to see history repeat itself after the Italian scored the solitary goal.
James Tavernier - RB - 78 > 86 OVR
Goal and assist / Rangers 3 - Dundee 1 / 8.5 Sofascore Rating
Given Tavernier's consistent attacking returns throughout a season, it's clear to see why he has ended the past 3 games at 90 or above. The Englishman is now in line for his second special of the game after two attacking contributions helped guide Rangers to a 3-1 win.
Junior Dina Ebimbe - LM - 75 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Frankfurt 5 - Munich 1 / 1 Kicker Rating
One of the most unconventional results you will see all season came with Frankfurt hammering Munich 5-1. Ebimbe was named MOTM and also POTW for his two goals in the victory and with the shock factor of the result added in I would expect him to also receive the featured upgrade.
Scott McTominay - CDM - 79 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Man United 2 - Chelsea 1 / 8 Sky Rating
United endured an embarrassing loss at the hands of Bournemouth on Saturday. However, you can’t overlook the midweek fixture from which McTominay once again showed his prowess in front of goal, scoring both goals during a 2-1 win.
Mikel Merino - CM - 84 > 86 OVR
Goal and assist / Villarreal 0 - Real Sociedad 3 / 8.8 Whoscored Rating
Once again numerous low scores from La Liga made the TOTW process difficult for the division. Merino stands out from Sociedad’s 3-0 though. The Spaniard scored the opener before then providing an assist for the third.
Heung Min Son - LM - 87 > 89 OVR
One goal, two assists / Tottenham 4 - Newcastle 1 / 9 Sky Rating
Tottenham ended their winless streak with a convincing 4-1 win at home to Newcastle. EA are in desperate need of a big name or two, thus Son who was involved in three goals is their easy route. Sky awarded the Korean 9/10 making his SIF a strong possibility on Wednesday.
Alexandre Lacazette - ST - 83 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Lyon 3 - Toulouse 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
It was the Lacazette show for Lyon this weekend. Scoring all three of their goals the Frenchman doubled his tally for the season. He was one of only two players to receive an 8 from L’equipe cementing his spot in TOTW 13.
Simon Banza - ST - 78 > 87 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Vizela 1 - Braga 3 / 9.4 Sofascore Rating
Banza’s squad foundation special item in FIFA 23 was one of my favourite cards outside of the top 5 divisions last season and after a featured upgrade five weeks ago this SIF evokes a sense of nostalgia. The Frenchman was involved in all three Braga goals making him a strong candidate for TOTW 13.
Ademola Lookman - ST - 81 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Atalanta 3 - AC Milan 2 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
With the top two of Juventus and Inter Milan establishing a lead from the rest of the division it was pivotal that AC Milan kept picking up three points. Atalanta had other ideas, coming out on top of a five-goal thriller. Lookman scored twice early on which ended up being crucial.
Substitutes
Pascal Groß - LB - 78 > 83 OVR
Goal and assist / Brighton 2 - Brentford 1 / 8 Sky Rating
Groß was still involved in the offensive side of Brighton’s performance despite playing in an unconventional LB role. Scoring once and assisting another Groß ensured the early Mbuemo goal was deemed worthless with the Seagulls taking home all three points.
Patrick Mainka - CB - 74 > 83 OVR
Two goals / Heidenheim 3 - Darmstadt 2 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
We saw a plethora of defensive options present themselves this week with all five included producing two goal contributions. This means several others who would usually make the cut find it difficult. Mainka is my final defensive selection and gets the nod for his brace during a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Rodrigo Gomes - RM - 68 > 83 OVR
Two goals, two assists / Estoril 4 - Chaves 0 / 9.4 Sofascore Rating
A second from the Portuguese league is rare but not unheard of. Boasting four goal contributions, Gomes is among the best options this week. There is also a chance that EA classifies his position as RWB rather than RM which will only increase his chances.
John Mcginn - CM - 79 > 83 OVR
One goal / Aston Villa 1 - Arsenal 0 / 9 Sky Rating
What a week it has been for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. First beating Manchester City 1-0 before then repeating the feat against Arsenal. Mcginn played a role in both fixtures and gets the eventual nod for scoring the goal against Arsenal. Villa simply must feature this week but it really could be anyone.
Raul Jimenez - ST - 76 > 83 OVR
Two goals / Fulham 5 - Nottingham Forest 0 / 9 Sky Rating
With two 5-0 wins to their name this week it’s perhaps surprising that Fulham’s options are so fringe. Jimenez specifically gets the nod for his part in the first match in which he scored twice. The Mexican then scored again during a 5-0 win over West Ham. Fulham should feature but I wouldn’t be overly surprised if EA opt to ignore.
Cucho Hernandez - ST - 76 > 83 OVR
One goal / Columbus 2 - LAFC 1 / Final MVP.
Columbus secured the MLS title this weekend, with a 2-1 win over LAFC. Typically a striker with a solitary goal, especially from the spot, would overlooked for a TOTW position. With the scenario and historic trend by EA, Cucho has a strong possibility. Potentially the first hero included in the game.
Esmee Brugts - ST - 71 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Barcelona (W) 5 - Eibar (W) 0 / 9.6 Sofascore Rating
Barcelona continue to be the most prominent club receiving IF’s for the female side of the game. A fourth looks set to be on the way after Brugts bagged three during a comfortable 5-0 home win.
