FC 24 90 Winter Wildcards Icon Ian Wright Player Review - Cop or Flop?

Team 3 of the Winter Wildcards is here and that’s Wright, that means a fresh bunch of players to look into and try out. Especially within the SBC section today which as we know, is none other than Ian Wright Wright Wright. 

Knowing that Wright was going to be the SBC today left me wondering one thing, what will be different about this card? So far a lot of the new releases have had something unique about them. Whether that be a 99-rated stat, position change, or a special playstyle. This card however comes with both a different position as he plays on the Wing here but also comes with a fresh new Playstyle plus in the Quickstep+.

Off the bat, the first thing I notice is that he has had a downgrade to his shooting, which to me is insane to see considering they could just have not given any boost and that would have been okay. Dribbling has seen a fair boost and the card now has 5* skills but for me, I wasn’t feeling this card from face value.

It felt a little odd not having Wright in the Striker position and if his shooting hadn’t been downgraded I’d have likely pushed him into that Striker role but for this, he of course played on the Wright alongside Mbappe and Winter Wildcard Martinelli. 

I was a little torn on the Chemstyle I have gone straight for the Hunter due to the much-needed boost to shoot that I feel he requires. You could maybe go with the Hawk chemstyle to boost up the Physical stats but for me, shooting was key here.

This SBC ain’t cheap whatsoever. I would recommend just trying the loan first to be sure if this one is worth completing but coming in at over 600k, this one is a tough one to justify the price on. Similar value here to Martinelli but I feel like Martinelli came with a lot more value and brought more to the squad. Of course, premium Icon chemistry likely plays a part here.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Pace was naturally one of the key stats on this card especially when utilising the Quickstep Playstyle+ 
+ Dribbling also felt good, again due to his playstyle, using a mix of both meant he played well when trying to make runs down the wing.
/ Despite the downgrade, I wouldn’t say his shooting was bad, just isn’t anything amazing to shout about. But does manage to find the net when you need him to.
- Passing was disappointing for me here, especially with him now being a winger. His crossing was poor so you would need to rely on cutbacks if you wanted him to assist anything.
- Strength is another thing that lets this card down a lot, he gets knocked off the ball incredibly easily and often found this causing me a lot of problems in-game.

Ian Wright - Cop or Flop?

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet. Is he worth it? Not. I hate to say it as I was looking forward to trying this card but it has been incredibly let down by the downgrades and then also put into a position without giving him the necessary upgrades to make him perform well in this position. 

The only saving grace this SBC could have had was if it was cheap but honestly, this card isn’t even worth half of its value. Save your coins and avoid this SBC and the disappointment that comes with it.
