Team of the Year Icon Predictions

Team of The Year is right around the corner and we’re expecting some crazy cards to arrive, not just in the two teams. Last year we saw TOTY Icons introduced and we’re sure they’re coming again this year. Here are a few of the potential TOTY Icons we think will be added over the next month. These are just predictions, nothing is confirmed!

Franck Ribery - France

We’re kicking things off with a bang with French winger Franck Ribery. He’s been added to the game this year and is yet to receive a special item… The former Bayern man won everything there was to win across 2013 and narrowly missed out on the Ballon D'or, but did secure a spot in the FIFPRO World XI. As a result, earnt himself this insane 96 rated card in FIFA 14, which we think could be replicated this year!

Iker Casillas - Spain

Iker Casillas hasn’t just appeared in the Team of the Year once, nor twice, he’s actually featured in the FIFPRO World XI a whopping 5 times! He may already have a Thunderstruck card but with it being Team of the Year, and him being one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the game, we won’t look too far into that. We’re hoping that players will now have two PlayStyle+’s on their item, but for Casillas we’d be happy with just one, as no goalkeepers currently have that!

Homare Sawa - Japan

The Japanese midfielder is one of the best cards in the game and already a fan favourite just a few months after her addition, but she could get even better. Sawa captained Japan to the 2011 World Cup trophy where she also won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot, this lead to her taking home World Player of the Year in 2011. A very deserved TOTY Icon if she were to come.

Rio Ferdinand - England

The first defender in our prediction is former Manchester United man, Rio Ferdinand. The Red Devils pipped Chelsea to the 2008 Champions League with Rio at the centre of the defence. This performance resulted in his inclusion in the 2008 Team of the Year which was also the first year of Ultimate Team, but we can’t see them dropping a TOTY Ferdinand with 72 pace.

Xavi - Spain

The PlayStyle+’s are key with Xavi, if he gets a TOTY Icon then he absolutely must have the Tiki-Taka PS+. His base card already does, so it’d be a crime to take it away for the sake of a promo card! The Barcelona manager has featured in 6 FIFPRO World XI’s and we’ve chosen to loosely base his TOTY Icon on his FIFA 13 item.

Bobby Charlton - England

Another of the new Icons is included in our predictions and it seems only logical to feature Bobby Charlton. He won the World Cup with England in 1966 which lead to his Ballon d’Or win in the same year. Charlton hasn’t had a special item yet this year so we can only imagine there’s one in the works for the biggest promo of the year!

Community Vote: Laurent Blanc - France

The TOTY is partially community voted so why not Icons? This is why. We already see enough of Laurent Blanc in Champs, we don’t need a super juiced version.
